I read that the Scout Planet is the planet that rose across the Ascendent immediatly before the Sun. It represents what one must do in order to fulfil the potential shown by one's Sun sign. If this is true to a certain extent....what planet is that in an astrological chart?

Hi Ria,

Actually, the Scout planet is the first planet ahead of the Sun in a clockwise direction from the Sun. It is also called the Oriental planet.

It has special significance in astrological interpretation as this planet modifies and qualifies the creative potential of the Sun. It indicates life affairs which are continuosly being brought to attention, needing a response of some kind. These matters need to be dealt with and handled effectively before one can freely express themselves and use the power potential of their Sun, as you noted.

It can be any planet in an astrological chart and can be anywhere, from conjunct the Sun to many signs away. The greater the distance, the more time to make adjustments regarding major personal effort.

Heypadey!

Maybe a silly question but why is it that a horoscope works other way around than clockwise (of course not when a Transit goes Retro)?
So this planet you guys talk about must be on the right side of the Sun (clockwise). Why is this then different?
Sometimes I, I, I.....

Hi everyone and thanks for the Welcome to theFajita I'm basing that what Donna is saying, is that the door to destiny is on the right? Okay, excuse the pun....but you make alot of sense Donna. Ofcourse it would be much to easy to know outright what one's scout planet is. Without pain and effort(in itself a minor gift, there is no growth and entitlement to ones life treasure. Wish I had a map to that key though...forgive me...I'm

OK, I found this definition at the link below, which I can see why it is so confusing. I just happen to have the Sakoian/Acker book on Predictive Astrology where they give the indepth explanation of the Scout Planet which I more or less paraphrased in my earlier post.

http://www.essentialastrology.co.uk/birthcharts/birthchart7.htm

quote:
THE SCOUT PLANET
The scout planet is the one that crosses the Ascendant immediately before the Sun on the date of birth. The scout planet gives insight and depth to the self-expression of the Sun sign. The scout planet will determine how challenges are met and how obstacles are overcome. The sign and house of the Scout planet will play their part in determining what an individual must do before the potential within the Sun sign can
be used properly and to its fullest extent.

Lots of astrologers use the Scout planet--here are some--

PERSON TO PERSON ASTROLOGY: Insight into compatibility -
Pat McDonald Strickland
Contents: Understand your needs; First impressions - ascendant, rising planet, scout planet;

From Bette at Solsticepoint-- (who just happens to be my contact person for the Magi )
Predictive Astrology - Sakoian, Frances & Acker, Louis OUT OF PRINT

quote:
A very good, in depth study of transits that discusses cutting planets, scout planets, retrograde transits, and much more. “Cookbook” of aspects is not as good as Hand but the explanation of steps in transit analysis is superb.

I personally don't use it all that much, but there are astrology programs out there that have it programmed in and one is shareware, which I have on my old computer, I just can't remember who did the program, Richard Nolle, Walter Pullen or Halloran, although I think it may be Pullen's Astrolog. http://www.astrolog.org/astrolog.htm

Mercy, I know it is confusing, it was for me when I was learning. This is what it says in the book, Predictive Astrology - - "Transiting planets move through the signs and houses of the natal horoscope in a counter-clockwise motion. On the other hand, the signs and planets move clockwise through the twelve houses of the horoscope in a cycle which is completed approximately every twenty-four hours. In the course of a twenty-four hour period then, a planet, while remaining in a particular degree of a sign, will pass through all twelve houses of the horoscope. The Sun, for example, at 3:00AM will be in the Second House of a chart, while at 7:00AM the Sun, still in the same degree of the Zodiac, will be in the Twelfth House of a chart. This is due to the rotation of the Earth and should not be confused with the counter-clockwise progress of the planets as they transit through the signs of the Zodiac."

I just wanted to add that perhaps the psychological astrologers use the Scout planet, as it is a point of insight and self-expression and it was Marc Edumund Jones who inspired their (Sakoian/Acker) research into this type of thing. And Jones is famous for his Sabian symbols.
