That's the problemThe orbs for aspects are hotly debated in Astrology. It can be very subjective
The orbs that I use for ptolemaic aspects
conjunction,opposition - 8 degrees
square,trine - 6 degrees
sextile - 4 degrees
with Sun,Moon,Ascendant,Midheaven, I'd consider adding 2 degrees.
also with the newest discoveries of other objects in our solar system, things can get complicated
I am considering giving Ceres just as much weight as Pluto...same with Eris
then there are the other dwarf planets,Haumea and Makemake, Sedna as well as even Orcus,Quaoar,Varuna,Ixion
(all those are in the Kuiper Belt with Pluto and Eris)
I actually have those much stronger in my chart by aspect than Pluto.
the discovery of the Kuiper Belt which originated with the discovery of Pluto but the 2nd Kuiper Belt object discovered 60 years after that with whole flood of discoveries of objects in that region really opened up a can of worms...especially when Eris was discovered, and it was found to be larger than Pluto forcing the astronomers to debate what constitutes a planet and that of course led to Pluto and Ceres classed as dwarf planets along with Eris. Pluto was demoted and Ceres promoted - both equals now in Astronomy, but not in Astrology.
if the dwarf planets, Ceres and Eris were given as much weight as fellow dwarf planet,Pluto
then
Ceres in 13'57 Leo in 11th
sextile my Uranus in 15'17 Libra
Eris in 12'15 Aries Retrograde in my 8th
oppose my Uranus in 15'17 Libra
then my Uranus wouldn't be peregrine
I am thinking of giving them as much weight as Pluto.
I don't count Chiron as anything major because there are over 40 other centaurs including over 10 that have names.
also midpoint configurations could account for aspects that are out of orb
for example...I have Venus conjunct Neptune with 10 degree orb, but I Mars square Venus/Neptune midpoint and Neptune square Venus/Midheaven midpoint
declinations can too - I have Venus parallel Neptune
its for the individual astrologer to decide what orbs to use. Like I said before, they are very subjective.
Keep in mind that Ptolemy used aspects by sign and not by geometrical angle like modern astrologers use now
Kepler opened up a can of worms when devising minor aspects with considering harmonics
the outerplanets weren't known during that time. Most Vedic Astrologers,Classical Astrologers,Rennaissance Astrologers don't even use outer planets.
Harmonic Astrologers use orbs in proportion to the harmonic.
I am getting more and more into focusing more on geometry and harmonics. I really like modern stuff.
just use what you feel is comfortable for your and works for you and the people that you do readings for.
