This is taken from an article by Bob Makransky in the aug/Sept Mountain Astrologer. I've condensed it for posting. Which type are you?The Moon’s speed symbolizes how fast and in what way data is taken in by the individual, and how the individual prepares for action. The Moon moves at different speeds throughout the zodiac. The average difference between one’s Moon in 24 hours is 13 degrees 10 Minutes. Those with their Moon moving faster will have less than that value, and conversely those whose Moon is moving slower will have a larger value. Fast (Alert) – scans rapidly with a wide-open search pattern, and notices anything new or unusual within their environment. They receive an avalanche of new information everyday. They react quickly to get on top of any new data. Their immediate reaction is to attack. Want things to be clear, and concrete, not given to subtleties. Have little patience for others point of view or possibilities. They move by instinct and impulse; making up their mind immediately, and don’t often reconsider their thoughts. In conflict, they attack with overwhelming force, allowing others no room for disagreement. Slow (Deliberate) – the individual’s perceptional capabilities are focused on observing whatever they are interested in at the moment, conditioned to notice, or fears. Other information that is not relevant to his or her area of study is ignored. Mind is relatively free of distraction or large amount of data. They tend to move slowly forward, and when meeting with confrontation, draw back to reconsider their options. They approach things by indirection, outflanking their opponents by slowing things down, and operating under the cover of confusion that they cause. They operate deliberately, never taking unwise risks. They have great patience, and often win by out waiting their opponents. Mercury’s location in the Zodiac, relative to the Sun, indicates a persons process of reasoning; how they categorizes information, interpret it, and fit it into their preconceived life models or worldviews. If their Mercury Leads the Sun (is ahead), their reasoning process can be categorized as Eager or Individualistic. If their Mercury Lags the Sun in their natal chart, their reasoning process can be categorized as Certain or Conventional. For example, if your Sun is 16 Virgo, a Mercury at 17 Virgo and beyond would be considered leading the Sun; a Mercury at 15 Virgo and back would be lagging the Sun. The Sun conjunct Mercury is a wash.
The Lagging Mercury or Certain type tends to react to life cautiously, and react based on past experiences or conditioning. They need to be certain of their actions before acting; particularly that they won’t face social repercussions. They see their life in terms of a following a guiding philosophy and having a social responsibility. At the best they are through and objective, mentally free of purely emotional prejudices, at worst they can be overly conservative and rigid in their behavior. The Leading Mercury tends to leap into life, with their antennas fully extended to receive information. At their best, they tend to be flexible, prophetic, and responsive to the needs of the moment. They tend to see life as an environment that they can experiment in, and they require no social sanctions of their actions. They do whatever seems to be called for at the moment, and are optimistic and freewheeling in life. At their worse, they may be sneaky, and conniving, going this way and that depending on what advantages them the most.

okay.. lemme see here.. So.. my moon is 7.20 Scorpio.. That means it's fast? I don't totally understand the explaination of the reasoning for that .. or rather, the technicalities of why that is so. The discription of it seems to make sense for me. My Mercury is about 16 degrees ahead of my Sun.. soo I guess I'm a spaz too! IP: Logged |

I guess that I wasn't very clear. You take the difference between the location of the Moon at 12 PM on the day you were born and 12 PM the following day.If it is less than 13 degrees 10 minutes you are Slow/Deliverate, if greater than 13 degree 10 minutes you are Fast/Alert Lanny IP: Logged |

Sometimes I feel like I am moving soooooo fast, but that I am being told to slow down. It reminds me of that Mike Myers skit when he plays a kid in a harness and helmet connected to the monkey bars. When he eats chocolate he gets super spastic (like me LOL) and runs so fast he uproots the monkey bars. LOL I do have to make a conscious effort to slow things down though. Because I can be going flat out only to realize that the people I am talking to are still thinking on the first thing I said. IP: Logged |

Ha, I have a slow Moon, as it moved a little more than 14 degrees in 24 hours, and my Merc at 11 degrees Virgo lags my Sun at 20 degrees Virgo.Very interesting article. Does it make a difference how ahead the Moon is? Jase's ahead by 13'20 & mine's ahead by about 15 - would that be felt differently?

Proxieme, Makransky's article was rooted in work done by Dr. Edmund Jones work on Mental chemistry. I'm not sure if the strength of the affect of the Moon's speed varies directly with the amount you differ from the 13 degree 10 minute average or not. You might take a look at Jone's work.If anyone else knows, let us know please. Lanny IP: Logged |
