Just wanted to pass on a firsthand experience, was waiting around with a few people for ... well ... that's not important, but there was this one person who seemed really nice, but was not participating in any conversations. I went up to them to say hello, and they had a little bit of a speech slur. Not really really bad, but you had to pay close attention to hear every word correctly.

The first thing I wondered was if their Natal Mercury was Retrograde, and I was able to get their birth info. Sure enough - their thoughts were better organized in their own way, in their own time, in their own head. Once I began to understand where they were coming from, they revealed incredible insights into life.

Wow, very intuitive of you to pick up on this. I wonder if this happened to you during a Mercury Retrograde??

Both my husband and daughter have natal Mercury Retrograde. My daughter's is in virgo along with her sun. She's very bright, but I do notice communication glitches with her. I'll ask her if the sky is blue, and she'll say "No, it's blue." (doublevenus, scratching head)

My husband's is in Libra and he has Neptune there too. Your post was like a light bulb moment for me, because I definitely see his Merc Rx operating all the time, and just realized after reading your post, how it has affected me! Throughout our relationship, he has suggested that I communicate with others in various ways. Like the other day, suggesting that I call the neighbors to thank them for something, that I didn't agree with.(they had already been thanked) In the past I would have done this, because being who I am, thought I had no valid thoughts/feelings of my own, and that he must always be right. But after doing as he would suggest, found because I was doing something not true to myself, it often turned out badly for me.

Moral of the story. If you live with a Mercury Rx, and you're not, take heed. lol

With his Neptune mixed up here, he also can send mixed signals. And he also can be full of the blarney, and did very well in sales

Astrojunkie i just read your post about this person with their natal mercury retrograde, and i never really paid that mush attention to that in my own chart.

I do remember hearing it could cause problems communicating with other people. What do you know about it more specifically? I would love to find out, because there are times i trouble understanding what someone is saying to me when they are trying to explain something.

I notice when i am stressed or under pressure i have an extremely difficult time communicating effectively. But if you let me try to figure out what i am dealing with in my own way at my own pace i am fine.

And i am horrible at multiasking, especially under pressure. I can only think of one thing at a time or i just freeze up and blank out. Is this all due to natal mercury retrograde? I wish other people were as insightful as you, then they wouldn't think i was a weirdo when this happens.

AJ ~
I've also read that Merc in III can contribute to a speech "difficulty".....mine is direct, but when I was a young girl I went to speech therapy because I had a lot of trouble with "S" -- quite a lisp.

I have Mercury Rx, and I do have difficulty expressing my thoughts. My voice is very low, and it takes me a moment to put my thoughts into words. Due to this people are always asking me too repeat what I just said. I also stumble on certain sounds, and I hate public speaking or speaking up with a passion.

Hey All! I have Merc retro in Taurus, conjunct Venus and, my Gemini Sun all in the 7th and, opposing my Scorpio Asc. It also is sextile to my Pisces Moon. I hate crowds and, even though my Sun gives to being a' social butterfly', I relate, very much, to that person you met, A. J. Of course, once the comfort levels have been attained, I am known to talk one's ear off!! I agree and, relate to Deira and Suzyque. I have never had any kind of speech issues, except that I don't do a whole lot of it and, people have the habit of saying, "huh?", after I've said something too However, I have been told that I have a talent for writing and, I can seem to relay my thoughts easier, with pen and paper.

Nice thread Astro J

Yeah, I brought it up because it taught me a very important lesson, and reminded me of just one of the ways astrology can help us understand one another. Normally when someone speaks too low, or they are saying something you don't quite understand, you might like nod and smile and pretend you get it when you don't. I've got news for you. They'll see right through that. A friend who really listens, and/or, takes the time to kindly ask the Rx person to repeat themselves will be a friend indeed.

Once that Rx person breaks out of their shell with you, don't be surprised if they stop you in the middle of your response to them and say to you "LISTEN!"

I have merc rx in Gemini! I've NEVER had any problems communicating with ppl or articulating my thoughts/feelings (although I don't do the "feelings" thing much). I love words and anything connected to words and languages (I'm fluent in 3). Can it be that the sign has any influence? And maybe also other aspects to merc?

~ Duality,
I do believe that the sign and, aspects throw differences ... yours, being in it's natural Rulership alone, makes it different from mine, it seems. I am introverted and very uncomfortable with verbal communication... painfully shy... and, I also, have a Gemini Sun. I, absolutely, LOVE to sing, however....? go figure Merc in Taurus, conjunct Venus... Of course, doing so, in anyone else's company? Only family and, even at that, I have a hard time... I, also, like to write and seem to have an easier time in getting myself understood, in this way.

A.J,
Yes, it is those who stop to listen... and hear, that I am more apt to open up to.

Duality -

Yes, could be the Sign of Gemini is helping you out there, as well as Aspects, AND, as well as the House your Mercury is in.

geminstone -

I think that shows strength in character. Just goes to show how a "seemingly" weak indication can be quite strong. It's taught me a lot - to be a better listener and not be embarrassed to ask someone to repeat themselves even if it's for the 3rd or 4th time. It's worth getting the info accurately.
