Why is the Ascendant as important as the moon and sun in synastry? It would seem that your Ascendant is just your "outer shell"- the face you show to the world. I don't see why it factors so heavily into a "soulmate" connection or romantic compatibility? Secondly, what are the effects of moon opp. Asc., or sun opp. Asc.? Thanks all for any input! wouldn't the moon persons inner world (feelings) be almost the opposite of the sun persons outer world in a moon opp asc? there would not be much meshing..but maybe act as more of a complimentry effect. but you could see how there would be struggles if the moon person had a scorpio or a shy sign and the asc wanted to be social..some conflict. just guessing. CapGirl,The Ascendant, or the first house cusp, shows where the Sun was rising on the day you were born. It's the strongest point of the first house and it's attributes. Yes, it is the mask you present to the world. The first house governs your self-expression, your personality, your identity, your disposition, your ego, your outlook on life, your approach to life, your appearance and your health. So along with the Sun, Moon, and all the rest of the planets, it's important in Synastry. It doesn't disappear once you get to know someone. It's still present and active.
