If you don't have a birthtime is there any way to guess a persons rising sign? I believe without the birthtime a lot of information is not available for synastry charts.

Tons of info avaliable on this site and others regarding physical descriptions of rising signs.

It's how I guessed one of my close friends, deciding what signs he definitely wasnt' and finally narrowing it down.

Yes, you can guess a rising sign if you don't know the birth time, based on phisical appearance and other characteristics. And I've read in a book that somebody's Ascendants is the same as the Sun sign of their parents or grandparents. I found this to be very true for me and my friends. You can start from there.

You definitely can guess a person's Ascendant. A good first step is to draw up a list of the character traits of the respective person and then compare it to the traits of the various rising signs. The first impression when meeting that person for the very first time can give a good clue as well. You can also ask other people what they thought of that person when they met them for the first time. This way you can narrow down the possibilities. With the reduced number of possibilities you can draw up a chart for the various birth times that give the respective rising signs and then check the house positions of the other planets.
