As you probably already know, progressions and solar arcs of the Midheaven, Ascendant, planets and moon are a better indication than transits of the really big payouts. An accurate progressed position indicates the approximate date (more accurate with the progressed Moon), when the event will occur. It is the daily planetary transits that will give the near-exact date of a "lucky day" operating under the influence of a benevolent progressed aspect.

Large payouts occur when transits (usually benevolent aspects from the slower-moving planets) coincide with natal and benevolent progressed planet (and sometimes the moon) positions. Some of the largest payouts can occur when secondary planetary and solar arc progressions of planets or the Midheaven and Ascendant have reached powerful and benevolent positions. An acqaintance who won R2.8 million on the 7th of January 1998, had a Sun-Jupiter sextile in her birth-chart that had come to "exact" by progression. This effect was increased by several benevolent transits going off at the same time. Wins of this intensity are definitely fated, in my opinion.

One of several cases of how Lotto winners have come to select their winning numbers has led me to believe this. An example is the man who, when selecting his numbers, glanced upwards at the roof. On a wooden beam was stamped a batch number, which he took and turned out to be the correct combination. Statisticians would argue that, of the dozens of people who glance upwards at numbers stamped in the roof when selecting their numbers, there is a chance that one of them might be the correct number. Nobody can argue against such profound logic. However, when one considers the odds of it occurring, for the correct Lotto during the correct week in the correct location and the correct method of selection, many people start sensing that there is something more to this than pure mathematics. Looking further into the matter, they discover that he made this observation during a period containing the most powerful simultaneous progressions and transits of his life, and tend to draw other conclusions.

There often exists what I refer to as the "Beak" shape in a person's daily transits, for want of a better word, since it looks like a big bird's beak (Click here for an example). If you draw each transit as a semi-circle above or below a horizontal line: above the line for a good transit (trine, sextile or good conjunction) and below the line for a bad transit (square, opposite or bad conjunction), you will end up with a graphical diagram of what the good and bad looks like on any particular day. Please note, you should use the traditional 1 degree orbs for this, but I do have examples of it working for 2 degree orbs.

Many winning dates are now fairly easy to see. Look for a day when there has either been a buildup of good transit activity, or a day when there are several good transits. This will look like several semi-circles above the line. At the same time, one or more final bad transits should terminate. It looks like the good is "spilling" over the bad. There has been bad resistance, which suddenly comes to an end, leaving only the good influences. It is like flying over a cliff edge in an aeroplane. The ground suddenly drops away, leaving you way up in the sky. Days like these can often bring much luck.

If you want to find the dates of most of the biggest possible wins in your lifetime, consider doing the following (you need a fairly accurate birth-time):

1. Progress your Midheaven and Ascendant by Solar Arc, finding the months when they form benefic aspects (all trines and sextiles, as well as conjunctions to the Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Jupiter and sometimes the outer planets -especially Uranus, but only if the outer planet is well aspected in your birth-chart). You progress your Midheaven and Ascendant by adding a degree for every year that has passed since your birth. An example: Suppose a person's Midheaven is at 18 Pisces 30, and they have Jupiter at 18 Leo 30. Their progressed Midheaven will hit the trine to Jupiter (at 18 Aries 30) at approximately age 30, at which time that person could expect an event ranging from good to excellent, depending on the strength and aspects made to Jupiter in their natal chart. Please note that this is only a rough way of calculating Solar Arc progressions. The actual value is normally a little more than a degree, which gradually causes an error of up to a year or two in later life. It is best to use an accurate software program if you really want to get into this.

2. When you know the approximate date of a good progression, it is time to look at your transits for this period. The progression will be fired off by good transits, not necessarily to the planet being contacted. At times like these, look for either the beak shape, or a day when several good transits are in operation. You can use this program to find either of the two, but I have found that the wins usually occur under the beak, the day when there are one or more good transits affecting you, and the last bad transit has just gone out of its 1 (or 2) degree orb. On days like these, the chances are very good that you will either win a considerable amount of money, or experience a very good event, even if you do not gamble or speculate at this time.

3. When you have learnt to do this, you can do the same with your progressed planets. Here, you have even more options that work well. You can use both the Solar Arc ('Primary Directions') as well as the true planetary progressions ('Secondary Progressions').

To calculate the Solar Arc directions you use exactly the same method as explained in point 1. For example, if you have an exact Jupiter/Sun sextile (60 degrees apart) in your natal chart, then at age 60 or a little after you can expect a big to huge payout or very successful event. To calculate your Secondary Progressions, which are equally, (if not, more) powerful, you need an astrology program or an Ephemeris (a free set of tables comes with this program) to find out the approximate date of the progression. Again, it works on a 'day for a year' basis. Let's say you were born on the 15th of January, 1960, at 8am. To find out where your progressed planets are at exactly age 40 and a half, do the following. First, add 40 days to your birth-date. You get the 24th of February, 1960. To get the correct progressed time, add 12 hours (half a day) to your birth-time, i.e. 8pm. Now use either your astrology program (or your Ephemeris) to find out exactly where the planets, sun and moon were on the 24th of February, 1960, at 8pm in your current place of residence. Once you have done this, examine the aspects of these progressed planetary positions to your natal planets. With a bit of experimentation, you can find the age you were (or will be) when the aspect becomes 'exact'.

Finally, as in point 2 above, look at the transits to your natal planets to find the exact date of the event. Transits to the natal planets seem to exert a stronger influence than transits to your progressed planets at that time. This does not mean that transits to progressed planets should be discounted, they definitely do have an influence, but you should first look at transits to your natal planets before taking transits to progressions in account, as well as have enough astrological experience to know the potential of the natal chart before looking at transits to progressions to bring events that are not promised in the natal planetary aspects and dignities.

A study of a number of lottery winners and the aspects when they won revealed something quite interesting. Sometimes a fairly innocent looking birthchart can get quite supercharged by progressions and transits. For example, one person I looked at from Lois Rodden's records had a 2-degree Jupiter-Uranus conjunction in his birthchart:-

Around age 39, the Jupiter had progressed to be right on his Uranus at 25 Cancer. Transitting Pluto came up to sextile the now powerful conjunction, a few other nice transits to natal and progressions, and wham! $27 million dollars in the bank. This is one of the reasons why I don't like to 'discriminate' against someone having a natal chart that doesn't look all that powerful, or to de-emphasize a natal planet too much. Progressions can make a chart extremely powerful, especially if it is a slow, 'burning' progression (stationary or turning direct/retrograde near a natal planet). Also, they could well have a natal planet conjunct a powerful fixed star, or have some close parallels that a first glance might miss. A weak or debilitated Venus, for example, might have progressed right on to Regulus, and who can say exactly how powerful that might be.

Squares, Sextiles..?

I counted the different aspects in effect for about 20 wins that I had which occurred during the course of about 150 of my gambling sessions, mainly in horse-racing. I used only my own data since I am absolutely sure of my birth details as well as the exact dates and amounts I won.
The Transits to my Natal Planets were as follows:-
27 Sextiles
13 Trines
9 Conjunctions
8 Squares
4 Oppositions

I am aware of Joyce Wehrman's strategy of focusing more on the squares, oppositions and conjunctions in the diurnal aspects to the natal chart. I agree with her observations regarding the 2nd, 5th, 8th and 9th houses and aspects made to planets in those houses and their ruling planets. Her approach may work for minor daily win times, but I disagree with her when it comes to aspects involved in larger wins. You only have to study the charts, progressions and transits of Lois Rodden's list of lotto winners to confirm this. Sextiles, trines and conjunctions form the overwhelming basis (over 90 percent) of aspects on the date of their big lotto wins. These aspects are invariably a combination of secondary progressions, primary directions (solar arc) as well as transits to both natal and progressed planets. If you study these charts you will see that this is largely indisputable.

You can use any astrology program to quickly give you a list of the progressed planet (Secondary Progression) influences in your life. This basically gives you a picture of your life-story, the 'big picture', in terms of the influences of your secondary progressions. All you have to do to get this list is to run your transits for the first, say, 90 days of your life. You can use this or any transit calculating program to do this. So, if you were born on the 15th of January, 1960, simply get the program to calculate your (full - use this option) transits from that date for 90 days, up to approximately the 15th April, 1960. This will give you a good indication of the major periods in your life up to age 90. Treat each day as a year following your birth. (Naturally, ignore the transiting planets that 'conjunct themselves' on the days following your birth-date).

Midpoints?
I've looked quite closely at aspects to midpoints at the times of wins and my conclusion is, although they are definitely active at these times, there are often quite important ones that are badly aspected at the same times. They seem to add to the aspects but don't seem to inhibit wins in any noticeable manner.

Betting by the Moon
If you know the exact aspects the Moon is making to your planets you will actually feel the bit of luck kick in just before the aspect becomes exact, but after going into this quite deeply I feel that there is just not enough power in the Moon to make a day a winning one, even if you have a few good transits on that day. Also, bear in mind that my records show that any aspect from the Moon can sometimes fire off a lucky day when you do have one. For example, at the exact time of the outcome of my best win in 1992, the Moon exactly squared my natal Uranus. If you only play when the Moon is in good aspect you might miss out on a winning day entirely.

Aspects to the MC, Ascendant and Node
Looking back at my records, it is clear that good aspects to the MC and Node are definite payers, especially those from Venus, Jupiter, Mars and Mercury in that order. However, over the past few weeks (Feb 2006) I've had good aspects from Venus and Jupiter to my MC, so bet confidently on four occasions (3 horses, 1 casino), only to lose each time. All I can say at this stage is that statistically they do pay quite frequently and should be followed, but cannot be relied upon on their own. It seems they must be backed-up by other good transits or progressions at the same time.

2nd and 5th Houses
To date, most of my best wins came when the Sun was in the first half of my 2nd and 5th houses. The win was in most cases bigger than normal (for me) if there was a good progressed Moon aspect to my birthchart at the same time. The two best progressed Moon aspects for me have been conjunct Uranus in my 3rd while the Sun was a few degrees into my 2nd, and trine Neptune (in my 5th) when the Sun was approaching the cusp of my 2nd house. My second biggest win occurred when the Sun was a few degrees into my 5th house.
