Start with Saturn's relationship with Moon, Sun and Mars. Observe the 12th house, and find the Squares. Many times Depression is generated because of repressed Sun/Mars or Saturn's controls on charts in a really bad way.Check Neptune's conjuction and oppositions to Sun and Venus. In my view, healthy agression of Sun and Mars is necessary to avoid and recover from Depressions. Also in general, Pisces, Cancers and in some cases Virgos and Libras find small depressions often.

Hard aspects of Saturn to the moon. Sometimes, hard aspects of Neptune to the moon can also engender depression. IP: Logged |

hahah. yea my chart is the posterboard for a depressive person. my saturn in the house that my sun rules (4th) being the most heavily aspected planet mostly square oppositions or quincuxes. except for the sextile to the moon. Ive learned to except depression as a part of my life. if u look at in different lights depression is not so bad sometimes.. in can be very inspirational for art and such.. alot of my writing ideas are a result from depression. also i have uranus conjunct saturn with zero degrees so the same aspects saturn makes uranus does too. except for one. opposition to the midheaven. so I think this might be potentially helpful suggesting change or breaking free of saturn. because actually uranus has the tighter orbs with most aspectsIP: Logged |

For some reason I have quite often seen hard aspects between the Moon and Jupiter in the charts of people who suffer from depression. Overwhelming emotions would be my interpretation of that symbolism. If I get time later I will put some more up on this, maybe give an example, see what everyone thinks.

I agree with the aforementioned. Personal planets in challenging aspect with saturn, neptune or pluto. If it is true that depression is internalised anger, anger not expressed, then mars square, opp or conjunct mars may suggest the possiblity of depression. Also the interaction between a persons moon, mercury and saturn. Possibly also a focus in the chart on the earth and water elements without a balance of fire/air IP: Logged |

What about Grand Crosses, particularly Fixed or Mutable? If Mutable, the person may find themselves in a state of constant flux. If Fixed, the person can find it hard to dig itself out of situations such as depression. Just thinking on my feet here... IP: Logged |

For some reason I have seen Moon Square Jupiter figure on the charts of 4 close friends who have suffered from depression, another friend has Moon Square Jupiter and was diagnosed with mild manic depression ~ now more commonly known as bi-polar. For 2 of those people I am sure they have a problem with filtering their emotions. They can too easily tap into the pain of other people, and animals, too. It is too much to carry. By contrast there are a couple of people with Moon Square Saturn in my family who seem to manage to soldier on without getting depressed despite having cause. But they didn't write the book. Emotional repression can cause problems for people, there was a whole thread on hard Moon Saturn aspects a while back that made that clear. Being a Jeff Buckley fan I wanted to have a look at his chart. This birthdata is from Astrotheme, btw. What did I see on the chart? Moon Opposite Jupiter ~ bi-polar written on the chart. This is just my personal view, btw, take it for what you will. Moon Semi-Square Saturn, all that Scorpio.

Jeff Buckley. I thought Pluto influences played a role in depression? Also Saturn. ------------------ The truth is a brilliant, many-sided diamond. The great life fills this gem and colors from every side. Mystics, messengers, and sages and teachers of all ages, races and beliefs have spoken of a different face of this common Eternal Truth. Well he has there that Mars CNJ Pluto in Virgo (very artistic combo) Sesquiquadrate the Moon. Passionate feelings that are hard to control ~ actually I have the Moon CNJ Pluto Sesquiquadrate Mars ~ it's a bit of a simmering tea-kettle number. His Moon is carrying quite a burden. With that large serving of Scorpio and Moon Opposite Jupiter I guess he must find it (have found it) hard to feel calm. IP: Logged |

I get depressed sometimes but manage to pull out of it. And yes I am talking about getting depressed on a relatively long-term basis, not just the "oh I feel depressed today" kind of thing that everyone experiences and just gets over. More of an underlying thing that is stronger sometimes than others. Saturn squares my chart ruler (Jupiter). BUT I like to think I'm tough and fight my way out of it, because usually it's based on 'life circumstances' that I can improve if I try. So although I get depressed I usually take a pro-active approach to get out of it. IP: Logged |
