Gah, so, I'm going a bit insane over a boy, which is driving me insane because I am NOT the type of girl that gets googly over an infatuation. But, apparently, my brain has decided that I am actually that type of person, thus placing me in my current dilemna. I think this kid likes me, and the uncertainty is really bugging me. Nothing's more hysterical than trying to get two timid people to actively flirt with each other, I've learned in the past week. Um, I'll talk a bit about him, to give you a bit of background information. I'm a junior in high school, and he's a sophomore- but no worries there, he's gone through puberty, taller than me, etc. We share the same Pre-Calculus Honors class, which is one of the many reason as to why I'm attracted to him. He's a very sharp and intelligent person, takes AP and honor courses, is freaking gorgeous but seems to have not a single idea of it, is very polite and funny, and just, ack. Quiet, a bit, shy. Amazing blue eyes like you wouldn't believe.

But anyway. I'll make a pro-he's-flirting-with-you and a con-he's-not list for anyone that's at all interested in this.

The pro first.

- I've caught him staring at me more times than I can count on both hands since school started a couple of weeks ago.
- His little comic-relief friend said something about me to him during attendence.
- When his friend was moved to the front of the class, Anthony (the object of my infatuation), progressively moved towards my side of the room day by day.
- Last week when I was coming into class he told me we had a pop quiz. This was the first time that I saw him initiate conversation with a female that wasn't necessary (okay, I'm reading too much into that, and ack, this is probably becoming obnoxious).

Things that happened yesterday:

- Yesterday at the beginning of class he was waiting around the door and standing at it while I was going through my locker which is right in front of that class. Followed me in and when he got to his desk muttered to himself "I think I'll sit over here today," taking the nearest seat to me. Cue
Everlong blushing like an idiotic sixth grader and rapid graphic calculator notes from embarrasing friend behind me.
- He started to talk to me, asking me about a random club. From there kept on initiating conversation with me, although it was usually something about math or school, and the teacher would consistently shush the class, so not the longest conversations. Again, more staring at me. I caught his eyes a couple of times and looked away.
- Anthony stretches and flexes the arm closest to me. I am attacked by a graphic-calculator note from friend.
- I go to the bathroom. When I come back, friend cooes "It's so cute!" and points at him and I.I want to strangle her, and hope that he was concentrating and didn't hear her. He had to have though, but he doesn't back down on his talking to me, glancing over, etc.
- When bell rings, I don't leave immediatly, and he doesn't either, follows me out, and seems to stall a bit at the lockers parallel to me, then leaves a bit hurriedly as if frustrated.

- Today, another friend does the whole little "Aren't you excited about math class today Sarah (that's me)?" looking pointedly towards Anthony, about five feet in front of him. Again, Anthony keeps talking to me,
glancing over, etc. He'll stare at me for few moments when I'm not looking, and occasionally I'll return the gaze, but I chicken out, blush, and look away, most of the time.
- There are four other girls around me that he could initiate conversation with/stare at. He doesn't.
- He taps his pencil consistently when he's around me, which I noticed he didn't really do in the beginning of the school year. Dropped his pencil several times today.
- Stretches a lot. I don't know why I'm including this, but, yeah.

All right, cons.

- I used to talk with him last year during lunch with another friend- but very occasionally, maybe once or twice a month. Perhaps he only talks to me because he feels he knows me a bit better than the girls around me?
- Maybe he just stares at people that he's familiar with?
- Maybe I'm just delusional and boring you and reading way too much into this whole situation?

So, getting to the point of this: WHAT DO I DO? Should I continue my course of action of talking to him about school, etc.? Or will we never get anywhere because we're both too afraid to take the next step of flirting, whatever the hell that is. Ugh.

I have the feeling he's either a Libran or a Scorpion. I'll find out.

School's canceled for Thursday and Friday because of hurricane though.

I hate how this makes me feel like an immature school-girl. And let's not even touch on the subject that I have not been able to concentrate at ALL on Pre-Calculus.

If you've gotten this far, um, you deserve gold star sticker.

I'll have that Gold-star sticker, please!!
You write wonderfully, by the way.. I really feel it.
He totally likes you.. the whole moving areound bit, stretching his arm toward you ( unconsciously trying to get closer to you)
Maybe he's comfortable with you because of conversations last year.. but how is that a strike against him liking you?
He digs you.
The whole around your locker thing..... say hi next time, even talk about stuppid class stuff. Just say Hi.

I'm with pix....he totally digs you. Guys are just as scared of rejection as we are so you may have to ask him casually if he wants to go out for a milkshake or something??? I dont know what you guys do in America, and seeing as you are both obviously very intelligent, just start up a hugely intellectual conversation with him...

either way everlong, this guy wants you...

good luck..oh and you do write beautifully...i totally loved reading what you wrote.

let us know how it goes ok

hugs

Thanks for the replies, you guys . I would like to be a writer when I grow up, as it would turn out.

It isn't a strike pixie, just that maybe he talks to me as much as he does because he sort of knew me.

I did try saying hi to him today, but my friend assailed me with the "Excited about math, Sarah?" comments before I got to it.

I like the whole intellectual discussion thing a lot kiwigirl, just hard to get a conversation like that going in the middle of class- but I've got a master plan!

On Monday I will leave my textbook in my locker and ask if I can share his.

Everlong:

Love makes us all feel like school girls (or boys) no matter how old we are, so don’t feel bad. : ) I’ll second everything that’s already been said by agreeing that all the signs are there…. this chap truly likes you. He’s obviously shy, and probably trying to determine what you think of him. Asking to share his text book is a great first step, but you two really need to get away from class and from your teasing friends so you can talk and determine if you share a real connection. Just remember to relax and be yourself – at the end, you want a man that likes you for exactly who you are, not who you pretend to be.

<hugs> Good luck!
