This is where you try to tell the color of things through touch. It is best to only try single solid colors. Some people are a natural at this. Red will feel hot. Orange will feel warm. And blue feels cool. The differences are subtle, but it can be learned. Some years ago, I studied Interior Design - which obviously covers colours. Here's some things for you to think about.... The Nature of Colour and how we see it... Colour is not a physical property of an object. The resultant colour of the object depends on its ability to absorb and reflect light. Without light there can be no colour. White light is composed of the six colours of the spectrum ie: Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Violet. Physical objects interact with light..... 1) Absorb some of the coloured rays of white light and reflect others (rays reflected = the objects colour) 2) Absorb all rays = black. 3) Reflect all rays = white. Seeing is a function of the brain and not of the eye. Colour is a sensation and not a physical property of the object we're looking at. Sue IP: Logged

Colour is powerful and it's emotional effect on people can be quite dramatic. It has the ability to invoke in us a variety of moods - when combined with lighting the effects can be very powerful. Certain moods can be indentified with specific colours but different people will often react differently to different colours. Here are the six main colours of the spectrum and the psychological effects which they are most likely to have...... Yellow Bright cheerful colour and is closely related to the Sun. Yellow can invoke a feeling of well-being, cheerfulness and enthusiam Red Stimualing colour and excites the brain. A very powerful colour. It invokes feelings of alertness, vitality and excitement but can also invoke agression and violence. A brighter red often has amorous connotations and is connected with romance. On an astrological note....Red is a the colour for Mars PS: Venus would be Pink. Blue Generally invokes feelings of calmness and sedation but if used indiscriminately can produce strong feelings of melancholia and uneasiness and can be quite depressing. Astrologically - it depends on the shade, (whether light or dark) Orange Quite a stimulating colour invoking action and vitality but should be used with caution as too much can cause restlessness. Orange is also associated with the Sun (sunsets) Green Produces feelings of coolness, tranquillity and sedation when used as pure green or in it's muted, greyed state. If it has a high yellow content it can induce biliousness and should never be used in restaurants or hospitals. Astrologically - sea-green is associated to Neptune. Purple Used in full (or near full chroma) purple induces feelings of richness and reverence. It can also induce instability and uneasiness (maybe because it's associated with death). Well to be totally honest with you - it's very difficult to say, without actually seeing it. A lot will depend on the shades (of the colours) that you use. White is neutral and so will "go with anything" - but how bright a white would be a question? "Yellow (depending on the shade),gold,and red are warm colours. Blue and green are cool colours. So it's very tricky to get the correct effect/balance when mixing both warm and cool colours. What mood are you wanting to create? Do you want it to be a more relaxed mood? Or more envigorating? I don't know anyone who is blind but I wonder if they can feel a colour. That would be very interesting to know. Well,I want to create a heavenly atmosphere,therefore the white and gold;I want an enthuisastic, invigorating, exciting atmosphere,therefore the red;and I want a calm,relaxing atmosphere,therefore the (light)blue and (medium)green. To many contradictions,right?Maybe my bedroom could be white,gold,and yellow,my living room,red and white and pink,and my study, light blue and green.The problem is...I don't have a study,and I won't be allowed to paint the living room...I guess I should just decide on a color for my bedroom! Bedrooms are normally better with warmer colours - as more sensual and relaxing. So in saying that...I'd "kick out" the blues and greens Work with shades of the warmer colours. It doesn't have to be exact. Just draw maybe one wall, put the window in(with curtains). Then colour the wall and window with the colours of your choice. You can then add in the floor and colour the carpet with the colour you want. etc etc That way you can see how you like the result. Unlike staring at paint chips till you go blind then having the colors you've chosen turn much darker on the wall after you've painted Too bad there isn't a site for determining what color shoes to wear with a particular dress.
