i was inside a small church, seated, listening to a friendly informal preacher. i did remember having been in another church earlier in the dream. then i was out in a grassy meadow. it was a beautiful day. a giant bee appeared, its stripes of yellow and black quite vivid. after some flying it hovered over an area of the green grass and started emitting honey. i thought it was a queen bee because it was so strangely huge.
i was bewildered by this and called to a friend nearby to explain it to me. the bee by now had flown to us and was discharging honey in a large canister that my friend was holding. then my friend plucked away from the soft mound of honey the membranous skin that was all that was left of the giant bee and said something like: " it's like that with this insect. it dies after unloading all its honey. that is its only purpose in living."

any thoughts?

Taj, I'm not Freud. But I can't think of anything unfreudian...probably because the dream when I first read it put ONE idea in my head and now I'm stuck there...
Ra or someone else might hopefully give you some other ideas.

Freud would indeed have had a field day with this one!

He would have probably said something about sexual repression or urges due to some religious experience or belief.

Stella, do you think Freud's viewpoints and interpretations had anything to do with himself? I mean, how could they not be reflections of his own inner psychology? I think he had issues.

Well, there ARE alot of symbols here that could be taken as sexual, but they also have spiritual connotations, especially because of the beginnings with church.

First you are seated in church, listening to a preacher - receiving some sort of spiritual or religious message.

Then you are out in the meadow - this could be a visual representation of the message suggested by the church scene, which to me is emphasized by the spiritual nature of the symbols presented.

The green, grassy meadow suggests fertility and a state of freedom, while also suggesting something about your "nature" which, in dream symbology, would be further detailed by any animals or other features in the meadow. So, we have the bee and the honey.

There are many connections with the divine surrounding bee symbology, so perhaps this bee is imparting some sort of wisdom, something with which to nurture the soul. Honey happens to symbolize just that - healing, spirituality, pureness of substance, food for the soul.

So to me, it seems that a higher energy is being imparted to you for the purpose of growth and understanding. But understanding of what?

The answer must be contained within your friend's statement. I can only offer possibilities here as I do not have a grasp upon the exact meaning of this, but I feel that this is something pertinent to some current life situation. Suggested are cyclic forces (death and rebirth), self sacrifice, instinctual/primal energies transformed into some higher state, and/or the spiritual nature of life.

Does any of this seem to fit?

Or IS this a sexual reference?

yep. methinks freud must have had issues.

thanks a lot, ra.
i do not know if the dream refers to sexuality although it could as i'm in the stage of life where i'm laying myself open (as in the open meadow) to the mundane aspects of physical existence. (um, couldn't have said that any better )

since the meadow was somehow in the vicinity of a school (or vice versa), the dream is imparting some learning and knowledge. and yes, i'm looking at my friend's answer. she's actually a helper at the school.

the bee melded into the honey. it was thus that it died.

i do comprehend the meaning of my friend's words. it's meant in a mystical way.

oh, i get it, now!
do you?
"instinctual/primal energies transformed into some higher state, and/or the spiritual nature of life."
of course. my dreams always give me the same message.

blessings!

Freud was a coke addict and that must have influenced his research/views.
