Hello and

I cannot really explain why, but my first impression is that this dream could be an expression of the collective mind, or the collective unconscious, concerning the 911 tragedy.

If not, then the dream could symbolize a situation/issue in which you do not feel in control (friend is driving, vehicles crashing). Or perhaps you are witnessing someone else's situation "crashing" and can do nothing about it. Possibly this could have to do with family (mini van) and work (truck), but that's just a guess.

Maybe both are true, maybe neither. What do you think?
