I've had a couple snake dreams in the last few months. Been going through a lot of changes, so that may be why. I have some ideas about what they might mean, but I'd really like to hear other opinions.

In one dream I was at a friend's birthday party. I wasn't having much fun and felt kind of left out. So I decided to leave the party early. I walked out to a big open parking lot where my car was parked. It was still light out. There was a Mexican man walking behind me, presumably going to his car too. I had seen this man when I had arrived earlier, but I didn't know him and don't think he was at the party. I didn't get a weird feeling about him walking behind me - didn't pay much attention to him and felt kind of neutral about him being there. (In real life, I think this man probably represents someone I know and have feelings for, just because of the Mexico association). I got to this area where I had to walk through tall grass - sort of a cross between grass and corn stalks - that had been mashed down, so I was kind of walking on top of it but also having to mash it down as I went. A snake came out of the grass/stalks and bit my right thigh. It was very painful and I immediately woke up. For a few seconds after waking up, I felt the pain in my leg.

The second dream was more recent. I was sitting it my bed - actually the bed that my soon-to-be-ex-husband and I got as a wedding present. I was surrounded by 4 or 5 people who were wearing long robes and had beards (Druids?). They were telling me about their homeland (named Tollum) and saying I should come visit them. I really wanted to visit them. Everything they were telling me about where they were from sounded wonderful. But then they mentioned that there are snakes everywhere in Tollum. I became a little apprehensive, but they reassured me that the snakes weren't dangerous and you get used to them after a while. As we were talking, a few snakes started manifesting out of thin air in the room. I wasn't alarmed since they had told me not to worry. I got up out of the bed to leave with them. As we were leaving the bedroom, I looked back and saw an enormous black snake with some red stripes under the bed. I didn't see it's face. It wasn't moving. I felt uneasy knowing it had been there (in real life, I have a huge phobia of snakes), but I wasn't terrified and didn't react.

Dream one
Please read it as an opinion:
High grass can be seen as a warning of wasting forces, because one distinguishes important things no more from insignificant ones. The bite of a snake can mean that a wrong person tries to sow discord between you and your best friends.
This dream indicates that there is something (=grass) that wants to hold back (=bite of the snake) the progress (=into the foot).

I only found Tulum. It is a beautiful Mayan city in Mexico.

Dream two
Please read it as an opinion:
A snake in general can stand for the queue strength of the Kundalini and sexuality. A red snake can announces strong sexual needs and a black snake can indicate the unconsciousness. I can make a connection between the bed and the snakes, but I fail to connect it to the village Tollum and their people. I am very sorry.

Thanks for the interpretations! It's so interesting to hear how others interpret them. Violet7887, I will try to take your advice and not be fearful, although I'm not sure if I can shake my snake phobia completely.

GeminiKarat, your interpretation of the first dream is really helpful. What you said about the grass sparked an idea. I think I was the one holding back my own progress! I was trudging through the grass, which was me allowing myself to get in a position where moving forward was difficult. As for the second dream, I tried to figure out where/what Tollum was too. All I found was that it's a Norwegian name, which is why I made the connection to Druids. Also, the man I mentioned in the first dream (symbolized by the Mexican man) is actually of Norwegian descent. No idea if that's a meaningful connection.

Although now I'm realizing that Tollum connects to the man because he's of Norwegian descent, but Tulum also connects because I also associate him with Mexico! Interesting.

Hello k8362

Good stuff

Here are some more thoughts for you to consider ...

The first dream could suggest there is a "snake in the grass" that you need to be aware of, perhaps associated with the Mexican man. Or perhaps there is a transformative energy (snake) associated with him. Either way, the effect is upon your balance, stability, and/or your ability to get things done (thigh)

The second dream reflects a willingness to follow your inner wisdom ("Druid" figures), to escape or leave behind your present condition/situation in a quest for a better "world" (want to visit Tollum). It will be necessary to face your fears (snakes) so that transformation can manifest in your life (snakes).

What do you think?

Thanks, Ra! I like it! I'm going to go with there's a transformative energy associated with the Mexican man (I really don't think he's a snake in the grass, especially since I didn't get any weird vibes from him being there), and it's pretty fair to say that it has affected my stability (in a scary/challenging but overall positive way). I wonder if the snake bite was also kind of a wake up call to me - I needed something to get my attention in a big way so I would stop just trudging through the grass making no progress (I was locked in indecision about some very big life changes at the time of this dream)?

I think you're very accurate on the second dream too. I definitely feel like it was about following my inner wisdom and trusting that I will be protected. The most puzzling part to me is still the huge black and red snake that I saw under my bed. I guess you're saying that the other snakes represent both facing my fears AND transformation, so is that the same for the snake under the bed? Why is it under the bed? What is the meaning of how huge it was? And why couldn't I see it's face? I know it has to connect with leaving my marriage. I'm just not sure if it represents immense fear or Kundalini energy, as GeminiKarat suggests, or maybe both?

I also just made another connection that I missed before - the snakes that were manifesting out of thin air, I think they may be showing that I am manifesting this "better world."

I love this forum! I've been having so many weird and interesting dreams lately. It's so helpful to get input about them - it really gets me thinking!

Actually, I think I just realized that both dreams were about leaving my marriage. I knew the second one was connected because of the bed. But now I'm realizing the significance of leaving the party in the first dream - not sure why I didn't even think about that before.

I was at a party I didn't want to be at anymore. I felt sad and lonely. I was trying to leave, but then I got stuck in the grass before reaching my car (which was me just spinning my wheels trying to make up my mind whether I should leave), and then the snake came out and bit me to get my attention.

Incidentally, this was actually the first dream I had that made me start paying attention to my dreams. And ultimately, it did make me wake up and realize I needed to make a decision.

Yes, the huge snake is different than the others, and you are perceptive in recognizing that. You seem to have a very good understanding of your dreams. See if this feels right to you …

I suspect that the big snake symbolizes an energy that exists within you concerning the relationship/marriage, unconscious material (animals often symbolize unconscious material, especially black animals) that has not yet fully manifested (hiding under bed). This is energy/material (likely emotional in nature) that you are not yet fully aware of, or perhaps may not have faced yet (under bed/did not see face), perhaps due to its potentially "dangerous" effect upon you (red stripes/felt uneasy).

The huge snake represents energy that needs to be transformed, and its huge size may reflect its importance in the role of your overall transformation and/or its close proximity to emergence into your conscious awareness.

Your awareness of the snake signals the beginning of its reveal and exposure, which leads to eventual healing/transformation.

It is likely that future dreams will reveal more about this unconscious material/energy. We would love to hear about them and witness the process as it unfolds.

Walk in Peace

Ra, that makes sense. Maybe the snake represents my shadow self - all the negative stuff about myself that I never wanted to own up to and so projected those qualities onto my husband. I've actually been thinking a lot about that lately. The snake hiding under the bed could be symbolic of both my personal unconscious or shadow, and also something that was unconsciously affecting my marriage all along (makes sense why I had that eery feeling about knowing the snake had been there the whole time - I didn't like realizing that). So then the other snakes could also be causing me some apprehension because of fear of making the same mistakes in future relationships. But even so, my guides (and my intuition) are reassuring me that I'll be okay.

One last thought on this. I just read this article, which I'm posting the link to in case anyone reads this and is interested. http://www.personaltransformation.com/michael_washburn.html

It talks about psychic, libidinal, and spiritual energies. This made me think more about the dream. I think the snake under the bed could also be repressed psychic energy. Leaving the bed could also represent my spiritual awakening (triggered in part by the divorce) and visiting Tollum could represent the transformation of the repressed psychic energy into spiritual energy (since the snakes there are living freely everywhere, not sleeping under beds).
