hi all -i was just wondering what anyone things about the whole "rock the vote" thing. personally, i think it is awesome that people want to go vote, but i'm somewhat torn on it. number one it seems to be obviously partisan to me. someone on this board even mentioned in one of their posts that a rock the vote "employee" (for lack of a better word) asked them to register only if they were voting for kerry. (please forgive me if i misqouted you here - but that seemed to be the jist of it.
i recently heard that the rock the vote team sent out flyers to young voters with the words "you've been drafted" on them. i know there intent is to say, you have a voice and if you don't use it, anything can happen, BUT is that not somewhat partisan considering that there are rumers out there that bush will reinstate the draft? to me it seems a little fishy.
personally, i find it appalling that major companies (mtv, burger king, ect) are becoming political machines. yes, i know they have the right to free speech and to do whatever they desire, but doesn't it seem like this is going a little too far? i mean, when i want to eat a burger i don't want political commentary on the side. that's just my view. i know this election is bringing out everyone's opinions', but i sometimes one has to keep thier political views at home and not take them to work. anybody with me? or if you have a differant view, please express this.
