Well hes the right man for our state! Alaska needs him more than ever if ANWR is to ever be opened. Theres been a push for too many years, and that was on his aggenda in 2000. But with the war breaking out nothing could be done at that time.... maybe this is the right time. Since the right man was elected..... Congrats to Bush and all who voted for him! Ang- IP: Logged |

I certainly do! Why should we get our resources form outside along with a jacked up price when we can get em right here in our own State and Nation. I think its a great way for us to bring our ecomany back up outta the ruts.... For Alaska, opening of ANWR would mean more jobs, (Federal revenues would be enhanced by billions of dollars from bonus bids, lease rentals, royalties and taxes), improved schools, and public services. For America it would reduce our dependence on foreign imports, especially at a time when crude prices are skyrocketing, and not to mention the price of a gallon of gasoline is at its all time high. All Foreign oil is produced and shipped under less strict environmental standards than domestic oil. Alaska’s oil fields are the cleanest in the world. As the American population increases, the nation must either produce more or import more. Ensuring protection of the environment is extremely important. Studies have been done on the impact of the pipeline in Prudhoe Bay with the caribou heards running thru there. The heard has grown from 300 to nearly 27,100 in the last 20 years. The proposed drilling period for ANWR is during the winter months when the wildlife does not make frequent trips thru that area. Alaska’s ANWR is the most promising area for the largest supply with the smallest physical impact. The supply of oil thru the prudhoe Bay pipeline is deciling...the search continues for more supply to keep it operating , thats where ANWR come into play. If ANWR were to be opened ANWR's oil could provide an additional 30 to 50 years of reliable supply. Natural gas, produced with the oil, could be reinjected or added to a new gas pipeline originating in Prudhoe Bay.Im all for it, bring on the oil and let the gas flow! ang- IP: Logged |

Or find alternative sources....which the President is backing. In the meantime, we need to cut our dependence on outside sources and that means drilling and extracting wherever the resource is available...here, in America. IP: Logged |

"In the meantime"? In the meantime shoot ourselves in the foot? We've been singing that in-the-meantime song since the Carter days. Its now or never, baby.Which alternatives means? How is he backing them? IP: Logged |

The President is backing them by making alternative fuels a part of his budgets and pushing them in Congress.Recognizing that R&D are not functions of the federal government but of private enterprise, the President is putting government money into the mix to assist in the private R&D effort. http://www.whitehouse.gov/infocus/energy/ http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2003/06/20030625-6.html http://www.eere.energy.gov/hydrogenandfuelcells/presidents_initiative.html IP: Logged |

WOOO HOOOOO!Congratulations x 100 to Bush and the GOP. It's a bit frustrating to live in the US and not be able to vote. Not saying that I think permanant residents should be allowed to vote at all, but as someone who has always been politically inclined and active, it's frustrating nonetheless! IP: Logged |

TINK, I'm surprised at you. Are you also one of those who are more interested in the messenger than the message? The President's budget includes money for R&D for hydrogen fuel cell research. I would also like to point out to you that coal gasification is a reality. The technology exists today to produce clean burning fuel for internal combustion engines. Enormous cost to gear up the industry but we have 200-300 years of energy needs locked up in coal that is here in America. Of course the oil companies exert pressure on Congress and the President. They don't want to change energy sources until the last drop of their product is used up. That doesn't mean they are going to win that argument...especially when the cost of oil continues to go up. Aquarian Girl, I can imagine your frustration living in a country where you cannot vote.Lots of people live here who can vote but are too lazy to register and get their butts to the polls to do so. Busy day....in front of the TV and Oprah is on. IP: Logged |

Jwhop, you yourself taught me to always consider the source. Otherwise, we might have given a bit more credibilty to Rainbow's recent post citing an author who sometimes posted at ... what was it? .. rense?angel-of-hope ~ why give up the fight so easily? I will continue to hold out hope that most Americans are not lazy, selfish, short-sighted morons. Call me crazy. IP: Logged |

JWhop, it's OK though cause I only recently found out that Australia passed a law allowing it's citizens to hold dual citizenship. Until I think 2002, you had to be either Australian only or you had to renounce it, which I would NEVER do. By the time 2008 rolls around I'll be eligible for US citizenship, and believe me, I'll vote! And not for Hillary, that's for sure, lol. IP: Logged |

Oh yeah TINK, I'm not likely to forget Rense. Every time I think about it I feel the urge to slip into the shower and rinse off whatever it is that's coming off that site. Well, who knows AG, you may be able to get yourself qualified to vote in the midterm elections coming up in 2 years and certainly by 2008. I've noticed how fast the liberal establishment media dropped Kerry like a hot brick and started gearing up for Hillary/2008. Hillary has some splainin to do though. It seems like the liberal establishment never learns. Hillary has the same problem Kerry had and has a lot more baggage and Hillary will have a real fight on her hands to hold on to her Senate seat in 2006. Hillary shouldn't count on my vote either. Quik and LS We already have replacement(s) for oil as an energy source and in the long run it almost surely will be hydrogen. The most common element in the Universe and hydrogen also contains the most energy per given weight having about 2.8 times the energy of an equal weight of gasoline. I'm just not crazy about using hydrogen to make electricity to power vehicles. I'd be much happier with compressed liquid hydrogen used like liquefied natural gas and burned in ordinary internal combustion engines. No exotic and toxic metals to dispose of from fuel cells and no pollutants either. IP: Logged |
