An interesting thing to recognize is an action that we as humans unconciously practice and participate in. And thats isolation. I guess when you consider facts from history, that isolation has been apart of western and esstern cultures, but its grown over the past 2 decades. Technology, naturally has triggered (well i'm sure you would agree that its people who are my age) a generation of isolationists. Ipods (which I whole-heartedly refuse to purchase), as well as compact disks players (which I also refuse to carry), video games, video game consoles, everything that shelters someone from the outside world is continously (as faster, smaller, & more efficient computer toys are being made and sold to people at alarming rates) contributing to the detrement of humanity. There may be personal benefits to owning an Ipod, but truly, is it really worth isolating yourself from the race (humanity) that you belong too?Now none of this really concerns me, but i'll definitely always be concerned for things that influence our world. And also something else I want to address is that what is really, really depressing about American celebrity obsession is the fact that regular day to day people are so busy idolizing people who have the ability to choose to shut themselves off from the rest of the world, and are isolating themselves from the harsh realities that those in the masses, middle-classes, & extreme poverity suffer to keep them rich. Any thoughts would be delightful... ------------------ Virgo Rising, Sagittarius Sun, Pisces Moon IP: Logged |

i think these technologies have actually led to a better ability to connect with the world.... the internet allows people to interact who wouldnt normally be found hanging out in the same place anywhere else..... computers allow people to express creativity in ways they didnt have the ability to do before....whether its artwork, music or otherwise...... and then to be able to share that work with everyone who wants to take a look......instead of finding a publisher or recording studio and trying to market your work... the wide range of literature, art and music from around the world thats available now dwarfs anything i knew when i was your age..... i've even met some very interesting folks and discussed all manner of subjects after blowing each other up with rockets in online games...=P

Hi Neptune. I agree with what you're saying. Technology does seem to isolate people. Instead of going out with friends, people stay home and watch TV. I would rather interact with real people. On the other hand, without technology, we couldn't be having this conversation! I do however believe that technology will bring about the new world order and everyone will be easier to control. People can use technology for good and evil purposes. IP: Logged |

Yes technology is used for good and evil things today, like getting intouch with a loved one at war for example, and an evil thing would be the creation of atomic weapons. The fact is, with technology, a person has the power to control, but at the same time the device is controlling you, your wants, your desires, and quite so your needs, it also controls how you interpret things, how you see other people, and your world. So theres a bit of that two edged sword thing goin' on there. (one of my cliche's) ------------------ Virgo Rising, Sagittarius Sun, Pisces Moon IP: Logged | |
