Cottonwoods Reprieve

Ancient and weary I stand
Sentry over this piece of land
Witnessing unholy deeds
Blood soaked roots lie beneath these
weeds...

Branches I long to detach
From which hung many a black thatch
How I mourned their last gasp
Insanity cloaked within white masks
A cross burning black and fierce
Grief struck screams through the
still night pierce...

Sickened to the core and yet
Somehow not freed from karmas debt
Though I stand-I'm left with scars
I'm not free-there's no need for bars
Prison walls of rancid guilt
Damnations cell inaction built

Wow.

Its such a sober piece, I feel irreverent giving a thumbsup. I would rather give an understanding look, full of pathos, meaning, and admiration for your work. But it is an indication of your artistry that I would think to give the thumbsup, not just because it warrants the praise, but, because, the extent to which you have captured the overwhelming emotional nature of the subject matter, provokes my jocular reflex; I want to make light of something so heavy; too ponderous for me, I fear. Though the cut was brief, your point is deeply taken, and I am, in a moment, overcome. Ashamed of my irreverence. And anxious to revere a man worthy of the name "Reverend".

Yes, indeed!

What a soulful moment in these words!
Such weakness and strength,
helplessness and responsibility,
a weathered understanding...
You speak through many here, dear Charlotte -
may Peace and Prosperity persevere...

“The ultimate weakness of violence is that it is a descending spiral, begetting the very thing it seeks to destroy. Instead of diminishing evil, it multiplies it. Through violence you may murder the liar, but you cannot murder the lie, nor establish the truth. Through violence you may murder the hater, but you do not murder hate. In fact, violence merely increases hate. So it goes. Returning hate for hate multiplies hate, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that.” ~Martin Luther King Jr.

I remember this poem from Charlotte..
She published her poetry not too long ago, her book from the cover to the last page is exquisitely beautiful
