Time Of Our Lives
Your first words were no ticky no!
As I tickled you slow,
Wriggling and squealing with laughter,
When you took you first steps
I smiled and was impressed,
That my little girl could stand on her own.
When you were just 3 years old,
You had the whole world,
As a fantasy and playground to explore
And when I had you all to myself,
In those moments of wealth,
We would share all our laughter and tears.
Now you’ve just turned six,
And you’re feigning being sick,
Cause it’s your big first day at school.
I crouched down on my toes,
Kissed your little nose,
And promised, to meet you right here when we go.
You were thirteen years,
Your face streaked with tears,
With what people thought of you,
I said be true to who you are,
And you’ll go far,
Don’t worry about such trivial things.
You’re just 18 now,
And wondering how,
The world is not what it seemed,
You may get lies and deceit,
From some you meet,
But I promise you’ll always have me.
When you can’t cope,
I will offer you hope,
And safety in the crook of my arms,
Maybe it’s not much,
But you’ve got all my love,
And I’ll wrap it round your heart to keep it safe.
21 years have passed,
With your first broken heart,
And you feel like the world’s going to end,
I’ll say shhh my dear,
As I hold you near,
And whisper that lame joke that makes you laugh.
I taught you the value of love,
Of care and honesty,
All which you returned to me,
I taught you to let your tears fall,
Laugh like you don’t care at all,
And you taught me to be free,
Most important on this Earth,
I taught you your self worth,
And not to ever settle beneath,
So you’re 30 years grown,
Become the Woman I’ve known,
You could always be all my life,
You may have a family of your own,
And a house to call home,
But you’ll always be my little girl.
You’re 40 now,
And settled down,
And ask, “How did you manage with me?”
"It was tough at times,
But you are mine,
And I wouldn’t change it at all.
I can’t imagine a world,
Without my little girl,
Her shining bright little eyes,
As I watch you unfurl,
My tiny baby girl,
Laying in the palms of my hands,
I hold you tight,
I know your future is bright,
I whisper, “We’re going to have the time of our lives.”
