They both have strong sex appeal. It mainly depends on what the person is attracted to. I've come out at both. Lately, it's been the High Priestess, but I've always preferred the Empress energy.High Priestess is like the hot librarian or buttoned up business woman who is mysterious and takes no prisoners. Definitely a lady in the streets and freak in the sheets type of deal, though if that's reality or not, it's the popular perpetuated fantasy. May be standoffish or very hard to talk to because she can definitely be an ice queen. Independent and may treat sex as a transaction that can transcend the senses. Empress is down to earth and feminine. A soft earth mother and a sweet wifey type. She is not all laughs and giggles, but she enjoys the intimacy of togetherness. She holds the promise of family. She seems very open. Sometimes, I think it is a bit like Capricorn VS Cancer type of energy. High Priestess is also in an enclosed space VS Empress being in an open space. It could lend towards part of the mystery of one, HP being an ideal that exists in the shadowy recesses of one's mind- that unattainable girl that others love to fantasize about overcoming and the satisfaction of being allowed to be able to finally unlock some of her mystery. With Empress, she's in an open field, her heart is bared for those to see. She's a long term partner. I think sometimes that sex appeal with her is mainly being able to go forth and multiply. So, maybe what a person sees in her would be her way of connecting to her environment, the positive and fulfilling role she plays, like being a cornerstone in a 10 of Cups ideal. Light and Dark Empress = Light, sexy, feminine 'in your face' vibe, she wants the attention
High Priestess = Mysteriously sexy, dark, subtle/hidden/classy, she doesn't really want the attention but gets it anyway IP: Logged |

They represent different polarities of feminine energy, obviously they have this much in common. Maybe like the dark side of the Moon vs VenusOne is spiritual, mysterious, carrier of knowledge. Darkness as in primeval darkness. The other one has more of a focus on love/giving/nurturing/pleasure. Waite claims they represent the spiritual and the carnal, but I don't know  For me the carnal should still be spiritualised to be beautiful. Agreed!!
The Moon is the main archetype of femininity though as she is the pure manifestation of yin. In Tarot High Priestess is "my card"
She also is ruled by Taurus. This relates to me because High priestess is ruler of Taurus and ruled by the Moon and I have a Moon in Taurus which is an exalted position. HIgh Priestess is pretty feminine IMO
Empress is ruled by Venus and is the ruler of Gemini, imagine her like Venus in Gemini (which I have also), playful, flirty. attractive, extroverted, light, ect The high priestess is more sensual and mysterious but the empress is more passionate and flirty
