heyyyyy,

what do you think about the mean and the true version of the north node?
In my personal experience only the true node really applies. Explanation: my true node is in the 2nd house and the mean at the end of the first house.
I can't relate to the interpretation of the 1st house NN at all.

I know several people with NN in the 1st and they all seem to alternate between states of complete selfishness and inconsideration and doing what THEY want and the opposite meaning following the crowd to the expense of fulfilling their needs. I never had any of that. Was never a follower but also never so selfish and egoistical (obvsl the NN in 1 have other traits, I'm just exaggerating to make a point).

What is your experience with true and mean node?

....Ouch..just... ouch... Welp, there goes all those years of therapy and building up self esteem and some semblance of something akin to confidence...right out the window in one fell swoop (or generalized astro poop?).

(Virgo NN in 1st.)

Btw, was j/k earlier. I know from past/other life exploration, that I have had so much focus on service, others, deep spirituality, etc, that I have needed to work on building up more of a sense of an individual self in some ways--especially in the sense of positive boundaries and learning to say no and the like.

There was a thread on this recently, and Kannon mentioned that the true node is more technically accurate because it takes into account more astronomically accurate, elliptical orbitals paths and intersections vs using a perfectly circular ones (I think that was the explanation previously?).

This article is interesting and explains the differences. Even more interesting is that the author of same, via observation, has come to prefer the mean node position, because he would ask people with their mean node and true node just barely in different signs, which felt most accurate to them, and the majority chose the mean node position type pattern:
http://www.forrestastrology.com/blogs/astrology/mean-nodes-vs-true-nodes

Personally, I don't know which is more accurate. There isn't much difference in my case, but mean node is almost in conjunction with Jupiter using a wide orb of 8.5 degrees or so.

that is interesting that people prefer the mean node. Maybe it is an individual thing after all?
It's just that the lessons and themes of the 2nd/8th house axis are so blatantly obvious in my life that it definitely is the true node for me. It's conjunct the 2nd house cusp so maybe that is why it is so strong? I don't know

Would read the link/article. He points out that Houses and House cusps are much less reliable of a factor. Even a very slight difference of birth time can change this.

It could very well be in your 2nd/8th House axis, even if the Mean node has more accuracy.

Maybe you should try it on a whole sign sidereal. In terms of Nodes, I relate more with the Vedic system and interpretations.

Hey Hikaru,

just checked the whole sign method and it puts my NN in the 2nd house. It also puts my Uranus in my 6th though, and I cannot relate to that. My uranus in the 5th fits much better.
Nothings perfect eh

You should be able to feel out the house of your NN. It should be something to which you aspire but is hard for you

From the article I linked earlier:

quote:
Two cautions:

First, do not apply this test to differences between true and mean nodal house positions. House cusps are inherently a little more blurry than sign cusps—they “flow” a bit more, like seasons changing, while sign cusps tend to operate with more distinct “clicks,” like television channels. A great bugaboo in astrology is the accuracy of someone’s birth time. Even a small error there can throw house cusps off enough to make them dubious for our purposes here. So, if the true node makes better personal sense to you than the mean one in terms of its house position—well, you are probably right about which house the node occupies, but my first guess would be that your birth time is off by a minute or two.

Second, in exploring the distinctions between mean and true nodes, avoid the temptation to look at only one or two charts. Half of the truly dumb ideas in astrology have arisen that way. “My best friend has Jupiter in her first house and she loves cats. Therefore Jupiter in the first house means you love cats.”

We need to cast our nets more widely to see reliable patterns, and it is in those patterns that we mine the alchemical gold.

Btw, I feel personally picked on, as I have Jupiter in the 1st and I love cats...

I have found the true node to be most accurate.
This most readily seen when one looks a node transits.Very early on I drawn to the node.I found transits to the node were very accurate about 80% of the time but could be off as a month or more.this was before I used the true node.when I switchedcto this true node the transits were nearly perfect.there was never a month discrepancy any more.this is n cause the true node can remain nearly stationary for a month.the true and mean can be off as much as 2-3 months.part of the rear n why are he node is obscure is that for until the early 70s only the mean positions were available and therefore the clock work like precision of true node transits were missed.
If you are interested in astrology as a philosophical system, the mean is sufficient. But if you are interested in the node as a
system of prediction, you must use the true node.

I'm using astrology more like a tool for self analysis. Maybe that is a bit too strong of a word. It's just that I find astrology as a concept interesting and see how much I can apply it to myself and my life so far. I never use it for prediction though.

Mmh nah, Dogs are a bit too much on the needy side for me. I like that cats are independent but come for a cuddle every now and then.

As someone that has tried both, I tend to not relate much to whole signs either. I think it really depends on what the individual relates to the most!

I haven't delved too intensely into the mean node because I don't relate to it, but I find the true node more accurate. In terms of transits, it seems to be much more accurate when major events or themes occur in my life, but the mean node is just kind of,,,,there. It doesn't seem to make a difference, and I don't relate to it at all LMAO
