Hi to all,

I can't solve the problem from the very famous actress in 19th Century: Sarah Bernhardt.
On the end of her life she lost her leg (amputated).

My mother has died from gangrene, but I don't have her birth details.

Her Natal Chart:

I think that she was AC Gemini, as she was extremely tin with lots of curly and tick hair.

Her father didn't marry her mother; and she didn't marry her great love, Prince from Belgian, because his family didn't allow marriage.

She had one son with her great love and later was once married.

I see that Jupiter is in its domicile, Pisces but has no aspects. How to connect Jupiter (legs), Pisces (feet’s) and amputation of her leg?

I have seen in my medical book:

GANGRENE:
Saturn square Sun. One planet must be in critical house. Here is Saturn in the 8th.
That is, what she had.

Buena

p.s. I am getting closer to the Medical Astrology so that I don't need to beg anybody for anything.

Hi Peri,

That is very nice from you, but I can't save it.

I will use my book: it is difficult to understand because the Astrologer wrote it from Ptolemy and all is in some kind of Aphorisms (the book is in my language and I have more problems than with English).

Hi Buena36,

It's not a simple as looking at her chart without considering a few years in the past looking at transits in her chart, progressions and Solar Arcs. Depending on the situation, it's more likely that she had some pre-existing condition before the gangrene set in. She may have had diabetes or blood circulation issues that weren't kept in balance. There are many reasons why gangrene can set in.

Look at her chart about 5 years before her death and look at transits and Arcs to her 12th House ruler, her ASC ruler and action occuring in both of those houses. We already know that the end result was death but that's not what you're looking for. You're looking for outer planet pressures through hard aspects to the cusp of the ASC and it's ruler as well as the 12th House ruler and also the ruler of specific planets ruling conditions like diabetes (Venus) and blood circulation (Neptune).

It's usually a sequence of issues occuring before death occurs.

Hi GV,

I am reading her biography at the moment and how she became a most famous actress in that time.
I like the combination: Natal Chart + Biography.

She had problems with her leg since she was teenager. I must see, why?

I personally don't like planets without aspects: better hard aspect than none.
She has here Jupiter without aspects and Jupiter rules the legs and hips. In old time was also ruler for the feet's (Pisces - ruler).

Btw: you have a nice Blog. Maybe I will join you when my problems will be solved (if?).

What's wrong with planets with no aspects, Buena? Is their being peregrine considered bad?

Hi MVM,

I have seen people unhappy with unaspected planets. That is why I mention it.

That doesn't mean all are unlucky with such a planets.

Hi Buena36,

Thanks for the compliment. I'm looking at her chart now and thinking that her Jupiter is sextiled by Saturn even though it's very wide. If it was sextiled by a personal planet I probably wouldn't count it, but since it's Saturn, I'll gently consider it.

Also, her Venus is peregrine which rules her 12th House health center. I don't know enough yet about all of her other health issues so I won't hazard a guess, but I did check the transits and Solar Arcs for early 1915 which was when she injured her in a play by jumping from a wall. They claim that her leg never healed from that jump. She was 71 years old during that jump, which probably wasn't a good idea for a 71 year old woman at that time, especially if she had leg problem.

I don't know the date of the injury but if you look at the transits coming from early January of 1915 you'll see that Pluto is about to cross her ASC Health Center closely followed by transiting Saturn. Those are two very difficult energies to have challenge your ASC so close together, so there is a challenge to her health in some way. I wonder if she broke her leg or injured the bone in some way merely signaled by Saturn's contact with the ASC, Saturn rules the bones and tends to weaken a person when crossing the ASC. Many times it can be as simple as lowering your immunity and catching a cold, but it can also manifest as issues with bones, ears, muscles, skin, etc. When looking at the Solar Arcs for that time, I can see that Solar Arc Pluto crossed her ASC a few short years before.

So she definitely had the preconditions for some kind of issues to kick in. Her age needs to be taken into consideration. Someone younger may have survived these conditions.

She lived another 8 years after the injury.

Does anyone know what date she injured her leg?

Hi GV,

Here I have found something by Wikipedia:

----------In 1905, while performing in Victorien Sardou's La Tosca in Rio de Janeiro, Bernhardt injured her right knee during the final scene which required her to leap from a high wall. The leg never healed properly. By 1915, gangrene had set in and her entire right leg was amputated, confining her to a wheelchair for several months. Bernhardt reportedly refused a $10,000 offer by a showman to display her amputated leg as a medical curiosity (while P.T. Barnum is usually cited as the one to have made the offer, he had been dead since 1891). Nonetheless, she continued her career, and contrary to belief, without the use of a wooden prosthetic limb (she tried using one, but didn't like it). She carried out a successful tour of America in 1915, and on returning to France she played in her own productions almost continuously until her death.------------

I can't wait to read her biography to the end as she died in the arms of her son.

So asides from a wide sextile, her Jupiter is virtually peregrine? That would definitely explain being a 71 year-old and jumping off a wall, wow!!!

Doesn't Jupiter rule the legs also? Or am I mixing things up.

Hi Buena36,

Oops, I was looking at 1915 for the fall instead of 1905, but now I see from you posting her transits for 1905 that Neptune just finished transiting her ASC. Let me look again.

Hi MVM,

What suggests her being an older woman jumping from a wall more than the Jupiter-Saturn connection is the opposition between Mars-Uranus. Hard Mars-Uranus aspects are a high suggestion of someone who is accident prone, it is surprising uncontrolled energy. Taking energetic chances; crazy actions.

Hi GV and MVM,

Sarah was very slender (tin) and she has jumped all the time: from one side of theatre to the other side.

I was looking yesterday in her Biography and didn't find the place and the right time, when she had the first time problems with her leg. In each case it was in her teenager years: either during two years in Monastery school (where she was riding the horse) or in the theatre, where she was jumping all over. She has also played very often her own dead?

Here is very clear, how she died: Saturn from 8th in trine with Mars in 5th (in the arms of her son, she has adored).

Buena

p.s. MVM: we had one man gymnastic with Olympic Gold medals, who died with 101 year. He was jumping with over 90 years.

Hi GV,

Look her Chiron transit: it came just to the natal Saturn in the 8th. Her injury was probably during the summer, so Chiron was exactly on her Saturn.

I "adore" Chiron and Saturn: both of them make lots of problems to me. They are in the square. Chiron should be somewhere else and not in my 1st house.
