My dearest Auntie has had a pretty terrible year.

She was training for the AIDS Lifecycle Ride in San Francisco when she was hit by a car- April 17th, when Mercury went retro. As a result her body is broken up all over the place. Not to mention she just found out she has a nodule on her thyroid- luckily it's benign- and will have to have her thyroid removed. To top it off, her job is ruining her. She's being harassed by her co-workers, and is required to dedicate so much time to her work that her family suffers.

She's at her wits end. She asked for my help, and I thought I'd do a Horary.

"If I quit my job, will I be able to make enough money to support my family?"

I'm no expert, but I'll take a guess:

She is Jupiter, in the 3rd. This question deals with her career/work, so I'm looking at the 6th and 10th.

MC is in Libra, ruled by Venus, and 6th is cusping Gemini, ruled by Mercury. Jupiter (her) makes no aspect to either Venus or Mercury-- perhaps showing that she's not attached to her job.

Jupiter is receiving some tough aspects: square Moon/Pluto/"NN" and opp Saturn and Mars. AND it's retro! YIKES! Conjunct Uranus can't be much help either. I know she's caught in a really tough spot.

However, Jupiter does make a nice trine to the Sun. I'm not sure if that gives a "Yes" or "No" though. I don't really know how to derive straightforward answers from horary... but that's where you guys come in (hopefully!).

Hello Meta4,

I just want to remind you not to use Uranus, Neptune or Pluto. That may change some of the drama you're expressing with this chart. I mean that in a light and friendly tone. See what you come up without those planets.

Also remember that she is represented by the Moon as well as Jupiter.

Thank you Geo. I got ahead of myself. And I always take what you say as wisdom, rather than unfriendly.

So... without the outer planets... well, Moon is in first- she's being too subjective, possibly? And Jupiter in the 3rd... worrying about... immediate family... i think. Moon is uncomfortable in it's opposite sign, Capricorn. She doesn't know how to express herself, perhaps.

Moon and Jupiter are square, so she's warring within herself about what to do. Moon makes an aspect to Venus, but it may be too wide. Nevertheless, it may mean that there's hope for her job?

I'm not too sure though. I mean, Saturn is SQUARE Moon and OPP Jupiter. She's being attacked. She feels suppressed and very unhappy. Saturn is in the 9th- perhaps this represents her... company? She works for a foreign exchange company... but maybe that means nothing.

I'm thinking that the answer is "No" she won't be able to support her family if she quits. Moon and Jupiter are just in harsh positions. She'll just have to tough it out, i think. Venus aspecting Moon is an applying aspect, so maybe things will get better.

Hi Meta4,

I might not be of too much help today, I seem to be warming up a little bit, but don't quite expect an answer from me because I feel half asleep. But more details are coming to me such as:

You should be using a chart with Regiomontanus Houses. They have it as a House choice on Astro.com. Hopefully that chart will have the degree numbers next to the planets within the horoscope so you don't have to work so hard to figure out which aspects are within the proper orb.

I think there is some significance to Jupiter being retrograde, especially since it's the chart ruler.

Oops, I just stumbled on the answer. Mercury rules the 6th House and makes no aspect to anything and Venus rules the MC and IT REALLY makes NO ASPECT to anything. Don't pay attention to the stupid blue line astro uses to show it making a trine to the Moon. It's not a real trine. So that means no action will be taken, no action will occur. Perhaps it means that she should ask the question at another time or deep down inside she knows she's not going to quit.

Also, maybe someone who has much stronger skills can double check what I'm seeing. Perhaps there is something about the Moon moving toward a trine to Venus, but the orb right now is much too wide.

Thanks Geo. I'll call her ASAP and tell her what you said.

Question though, why does it matter what house system I use? Do all horary charts need to be done using Reg?

I have absolutely no idea why it has to be Regiomontanus, I just learned from a few Horary Astrologers that it has to be.

I think most horary astrologers base their knowledge on Lily and he used Regiomontanus, as this was a very popular housesystem during the middle ages.
