Okay, so all those threads about ASC/appearance got me wondering... If the ASC/1st house rules the self/appearance, would harsh aspects to the ASC or 1st house ruler make someone self-conscious about their appearance? Would a harsh Saturn aspect be involved? Venus? What about planets in the 1st not conjunct the ASC?IP: Logged |

If I recall correctly, on Lindisfarne's thread about looking "proper" before going out, you said it was probably due to her Saturn in the 1st. I think it's conjunct her ASC. I don't recall the aspects but it's in Aquarius.IP: Logged |

Defnetly saturn has something about it. I just had Saturn in the 1st house in transit and with help of researchers i discovered that Saturn makes you VERY self consious of anything. So S in the 1st makes you see how you really are in front of mirror, not what you would like to see.Probably venus would do the opposite, would help you to see what you wish, maybe (not as strong as jupter), but isn't really good at it... Maybe, also, virgo asc helps you to be very self-awared, since virgo is the perfeccionist, and all the details are important. IP: Logged |

Yeah, Saturn in the 1st or conj the ASC will want to look proper or conservative. I'm more interested in what makes people not like the way they look or be self-conscious in the sense that they think they're too fat or too thin or don't like this, that or the other aspect of their appearance. Before someone says Chiron in the 1st, I'm gonna rule that out, at least for my own knowledge, because I know a guy with that placement who doesn't have this issue. Even though his Venus squares it.Edit: Venus in the 1st, conjunct ASC: A gal who has this placement - she's a beauty, been told that all her life, so she loves beautifying every time before she goes out, even if it's a walk to the store. She also has Moon in Libra so there's an emotional link to this Venus effect. Edit #2: I think it was Lonake who pointed out a while ago that Virgo Rising has body image issues. I have this rising sign and count calories and weigh myself regularly. Which is very Virgo I suppose. But my sister is Leo rising with no planets in her 1st and she does the same lol IP: Logged |

I could see Virgo having issues with self-consciousness because of the tendency to focus on the details and perfectionsim, definitely. I have a Virgo Moon square my ASC, though, and I don't have too many hangups about my appearance. I'm thinking maybe having Saturn square or opposite the ASC would do it. From what I've researched with people that have Saturn in the 1st or conj ASC, they're not unsatisfied with their appearance. IP: Logged |

I'd imagine Leo rising is going to count calories because they need to look their best at all times. Where is your sister's sun? IP: Logged |

I love that pic I don't know if the moon in hard aspect to ASC will necessarily make someone self-conscious; I mentioned mine because it's in Virgo. Saturn in harsh aspect to Venus -- I have this, but, again, I don't really have many hangups about my appearance. Someone with a harsh Saturn aspect to ASC, come in here and let me know if you have issues with your appearance! IP: Logged |

She also has Venus in her 10th, close to her NN. It seems to make her the "office babe." She once stated that she buys expensive creams because they're an investment, which is a very Cappy take on it. (Cap Moon & Venus the chart ruler/NN in 10th)She does get picky about imperfections but they are externally driven, not internalized. IP: Logged |

I am one of the most self-conscious people I know.I read somewhere that people who have Moon conjunct Chiron are often uncomfortable with their bodies. I have this, in Virgo, so it's even worse. Oh, and this conjunction is square my Ascendant, so that probably adds to it. IP: Logged |

Hello, someone with Chiron in the 1st house speaking.Chiron is in my 1st house which is Leo... I can be very outgoing and VERY assertive but, during that, be analyzing and examining myself relentlessly in my head... and after the fact, more analyzing and sometimes beating myself up over how I probably looked or came off to a certain person. With that being said, I used to feel Chiron in the 1st a lot more. Major self-consciousness, to the point of shrinking away from any and all situations that might put any kind of spotlight on me. It was unhealthy, I would say. I've been able to embrace the outgoing side of myself and taking a public speaking class really helped me achieve the balance between, "Oh my gosh what do I look like?" and, "Listen to what I'm saying, right now!" I was very successful in my public speaking class. I'm much more confident now. Three or four years ago? I'd have needed heavy drugs to get up in front of a group and talk. Just wanted to chime in. I think Chiron in ASC definitely has something to do with it. People might see me and think "No way is she self-conscious!" Just because I don't always show it, and can definitely come off as overconfident and/or arrogant, does not mean it's not there. Editing this to include the aspects Chiron (these also go for my ASC as well) makes in my chart. -Conjunct ASC -Opposite Saturn -Opposite Mars -Trine Mercury -Opposite Moon IP: Logged |

Self conscious would be a heavily aspected Capricorn placement. (not necessarily Saturn)A positive Jupiter can offset this. IP: Logged |

I am self conscious about not being masculine enough (in apperance and behavior). I have been working on it a lot and have made progress, but it's still always on my mind to varying degrees. I believe it's due to mars in cancer opposing saturn.------------------ It's All Elemental ----- My Chart if relevant IP: Logged |

I had body issues my entire life...and my chart reeks of it...not just body issues, but self esteem issues...up the wazooFirst: Mercury conjunct Uranus in the Sagittarius in the seventh house....means that I readily absorb the ideas of others on a logical and intuitive level - for me they are fused...and so I can be easily deceived about my true value should I meet the negative expression of this. Second: Saturn in Scorpio conjunct south node in the sixth house...opposite chiron in early gemini in the 12th house...father issues involving self worth, the body, going both ways...anerexia, bolimia, at certain points...and distorted body image....saturn is also square venus in aquarius...in the tenth house... Third: both venus and saturn are semisquare sun in the late seventh early eighth, conjunct neptune...dissolutioned, for me, having a way lower self esteem than I looked, rather than the other way around... These aspects, I'm sure of it, combined to make me who I am today... I have a bad hip from training in track too hard - gemini ascendants love sprinting...but that mercury conjunct uranus ins agitarius didn't give me what i needed to step up and tell my track coaches taht they were overtraining me. Now, if I stop exercising my legs, I can barely walk, and my right hip has bursitis, something people don't get until fifty naturally. But I thought the coaches knew best...remember, that sagitarius rules teh hips...I can feel when mercury affliction is occuring in my hips...true that. second: chiron in gemini rules the jaw, saturn in scorpio rules physical limitations and surgery...I had a deformed bite that grew in between the ages of 16-22...the doctors told me to have the surgery and it wasn't cosmetic - insurance paid, so I corrected a class III underbite for free, excep[t the permanent numbness in my lower face which has somehow contributed to my asexual nature...as I derive no pleasure from kissing. I remember looking in the mirror at my chin and I remember flashbacks of kids slapping me in the face saying i looked like jay leno...I would always act up and tell the kid off and then he would say something that would make everyone laugh at me...so I would say something back and he would push me...and we'd start fighting in the hallway but eventually the grade would team up on me because I was irrational and histeric...the wound kept getting deeper and deeper....and I would start crying every time I looked in the mirror...thank god I had that surgery and experienced the consequences because now i look in the mirror and show unconditional love...since learning astrology, I have my own ideas now, and I Value them, and I see astrology as a life saver...probably could have saved kurt cobain, janis joplin, and amy whinehouse too....they all had neptune in the seventh i believe, which makes one susceptible to the negative energy of others...knowing this, however we become less machine, and more humanistic. pace and love... namasate... hope this helped to recap venus/saturn/sun aspects...especially semisquares...not so much the ascendant but an opposition too it...for sure... p.s. Even though I have venus aquarius trine gemini ascendant...I still went through all this, but one thing that aspect did is it made me think that being a genius is beautiful...and so in striving to become smart, I mastered the logical stuff in highschool so that I was able to move on to the other side of my brain with that solid foundation...and heal myself...so the venus trine gemini helped me in the long run...and still does to this day...it helps temper my superficial nature, which isn't really there.. I didn't want to look better because I was superficial...it was more of the fact that i had an artists critical eye and i could see every imperfection of my body instantly...like my sternum which slightly pocked out and made me pigeon chested basketball coach: "Come on Stoll, drive around him, he's pigeon chested son!" said that to a player who I was guarding at practice... like my underbite "moon face, jay leno, slack jaw" words I was called relentlessly - every other day of my life in highschool "man boobs, fat boy" = grade school every day lead to anorexia and "wow are you taking steroids" so not to ake you feel bad at all because this is something all the kids go through, and to be honest, I was a big and strong kid so I was able to fend off the bullies... but you catch the drift... oh yeah...I once made fun of a guy in ethnic school who was three years older than me...he power slamned my head into the wall when i wasn't looking and he said, "you have a flat head like an asian" Granted it was racist and I love asian aesthetics and love looking somehwat like a thick eyebrowed version of bruce lee, but the pain coupled with the remark lead to alot of self hatred and desire for revenge.. the slam in the back of the head was so hard I started crying, but I Didn't want anyone to see me so I went off in a corner....it didn't stop hurting for a few months...I even think he gave me a concusion...it was a full out slap/grab and slam by a kid who weighed 240 lbs and was 6ft and in fifth grade... Oh. I have gotten all the insults too. When I was in grade school, my 1st grade teacher had already categorized me as "fat lump in the corner." In 4th grade, I was "that ball of lard." Of course, I grew up in Asia where those teacher insults ***were encouraged*** even from my parents because even boys ought not to have more than a 28 inch waist... gimme a break. Meanwhile I could lift the weaklings with a couple of my fingers on one hand.In middle school, I got ganged up on. By high school, it was me against 10 guys. Except that the black belt came in handy. Even in the military, a supposed professional organization, I got poked fun off. Including from the commissioned officer corps. Whatever. I hold my own. I usually dress like a slob and don't care about my grooming when I am casual, but I dress to kill in the best attire when I need to, whether its a professional suit, a tuxedo or business casual. Oh. Obligatory astrology content. Venus in 12th House. Ascendant Pisces. Gemini Moon in 3rd House. Capricorn Mars in 11th House. Capricorn Mercury in 11th House. Capricorn Sun in 10th House. IP: Logged |

Body Dysmorphic Disorder translates to the topic, maybe in an extreme case. I tried Googling for celebrities with that hang-up and found https://mghocd.org/celebrity-confessions-body-dysmorphic-disorder-edition/ I don't know how seriously it should be taken but celebrities mentioned are, Monroe has H6 ruler Saturn t-sq to Moon/Neptune. Looks like a worthy candidate. Self esteem issues there plus dissatisfaction with appearance as Neptune is in the 1st in hard aspect to Moon/Saturn, Moon/Saturn is classic for depression/perpetual dissatisfaction. Neptune wants to put a glamorous spin on things but sets themselves up to be deluded. The chart says that she was a fragile person. Venus doesn't aspect Pluto. Thurman has a similar set-up of energies: Virgo/H6, Neptune, Saturn, luminary. Virgo ASC - Neptune - Venus t-square. A grand cross if you want to add in the Moon. Venus is the dispositor of the Sun & is opposed to Neptune. Saturn is conj the Sun. Pluto makes an out-of-sign trine to Venus.
Michael Jackson, http://www.astro.com/astro-databank/Jackson,_Michael_%281958%29 Time debatable, has Sun conj Pluto in Virgo, may or may not be opposing Pisces Moon. Saturn may or may not be square to the Moon. I guess the conjunction to Pluto accounts for the obsession. Venus doesn't aspect Pluto.
Lily Allen, http://www.astrotheme.com/portraits/t6xND83gVwh4.htm Time unknown, but nothing in Virgo. Venus/Moon/Neptune may or may not be involved in a t-square. Venus is the dispositor of the Sun. Saturn doesn't afflict a luminary. Venus is inconjunct Pluto.
Heidi Montag, http://www.astrotheme.com/celestar/portrait.php?clef=3WzCfJES4vFc&info=1 Time unknown, has Virgo Sun, Neptune is afflicting only Mercury, but Mercury is dispositor of her Sun. Jupiter in Pisces is opposing her Sun, Saturn makes no hard aspects. Venus is conj Pluto.
Sarah Michelle Gellar, http://www.astro.com/astro-databank/Gellar,_Sarah_Michelle Time unknown, nothing in Virgo. Pisces Moon may or may not be square to Neptune. Mars, the dispositor of Sun, is sq to Neptune. Saturn does not afflict a luminary. Venus opposes Pluto.
