Anyone else have problems getting their thoughts out as words? Some days I'm fine but other days it's like my brain is in a constant fog and I either can't figure out any words to say in response to someone, I have an idea in my head but can't put it into words, or I can get it out but I stutter and end up making a mess of it, and i'm not sure whoever I'm talking to understands what the hell I'm saying lol.
However, if I'm typing or writing I don't have this problem nearly as bad. It's only when I talk to people face-to-face. I'm a cashier and trying to have a new conversation with a stranger every few minutes or so gets tiring and by the end of my shift I find myself either nodding to everything or stuttering a bunch.

I looked at my chart one other time when I was wondering about this and found that my Mercury is in Pisces (6th House), which is it's detriment and fall. A terrible place for communication. My Mercury is also conjunct Saturn in Pisces and Square Pluto in Scorpio in 3rd house, which I've read can also give problems with communication.

Does anyone else have problems with certain types of communication? Where is your Mercury at?

Me! Mercury in the 6th, in virgo. It would be great if it wasn't retrograde. But you know whats even worst? Writing. It was horrible finishing college, I had no idea what i was doing.
And no matter how easy the test is, I have to study HARD or i won't pass. Are you like that? It's my biggest struggle because i want to accomplish a lot, but i'm sacred of failing.

I have stuttering problems too and I'm a mercury in gemini. I process **** too fast, (excuse my lingo). I knew of a mercury in Pisces who stutters, but also holds his head down when he talks.. I noticed that since its in the 6th house maybe your thinking about things too much and processing it like a filter. My relative has a mercury in the 6th house and I see this all the time.

And please, I had to quit being a cashier because even though I'm a gemini, I just hate the constant customers complaning energy.
Lawd, im praying these internships come through becuase i will be right back..urggh.

Your mercury in Pisces probably gets so worn out because you pick up on people vibes so easily. Your feeling people out in a sense. You have 2 signs that are mutable that's operating your mercury..

Its the saturn aspect to Mercury.

I have Chiron in the third and strangely developed a stuttering problem AS AN ADULT.

It doesn't bother me that much i think it'll disappear on its own eventually just like it popped up outta nowhere.

Hi there, my SO has stuttering problems when he was a kid and was bullied for it. It is a childhood wound for him. He is an Aqua ASC, with Uranus conj MC and Mercury (Sag) all within a degree or so. He has that trine his moon in Leo 6H. He also has chiron in the 3rd loosely conjunct IC. He has recovered from stuttering but it was a long road. He writes a lot, and that's what helped him communicate. Writing comes very easy to him, just like you said. He has kept books and books of journals. He has some troubles conveying/putting exactly into words what he truly means and its very easy for people to take him the wrong way. Stress doesn't help either. He said the best was writing, then it's just learning to reflect and have some patience with yourself in finding the correct way to express things. It's hard and frustrating..I can imagine. I don't consider myself a great speech therapist or anything, but I certainly help him put some things into perspective.

I have a pluto, venus and merc stellium in the first house, scorpio but I'm quite a heavy Libra as well.

Interesting. My SO has his moon in leo. Yep. Writing is his strong point, that's for sure. Everything flows freely on paper. He also makes music. That helps him express some of his feelings that he can't quite put into words.

I know someone who has had a stutter since birth... but I don't have his ascendant.
He has Mercury in Virgo. No hard aspects, only a sextile to Moon in Cancer.

That's interesting, with Mercury in Gemini I'd think you'd have great communication, but on the other hand maybe you have too much Mercury going on, like you said processing way too much too fast and your brain gets ahead of your tongue.

And what you said about processing everything, YES! lol I over-analyze everything that's said to me. Sometimes i'm still processing what someone is saying when I start talking then my brain gets all mixed up. I also have a virgo ascendant and have alot of virgo/6th house energy in my chart so that's probably why i over-analyze. Also consistent with alot of virgo energy is that I get stressed out easily and all these problems talking get worse when I'm stressed.

And on feeling people out, I do this all the time too. Sometimes I don't even notice it but I can easily pick up on how others are feeling. Where I work cashiers are supposed to ask a customers "How are you today?" when they come up to a register, 'good customer service' and such. But some customers don't realize that's it's pretty much just a greeting, and go right ahead telling me all their life problems like I'm a free therapist or something. I don't mind helping people out but when random people just start telling me all their problems when I'm not expecting it, I don't know how to react. Not to mention that they're only there til i'm done ringing up their stuff then they immediately leave and I feel like they just dumped all their problems on me and nothing got resolved. like really? what am i seriously supposed to do for these people?

And I feel you on trying to get away from cashiering. I'm trying to get out of retail as soon as possible. I'm in school to become an x-ray tech. This semester's been rough on me though bc of some personal problems, and I haven't been able to focus and study properly. At best I'll probably end up barely passing most of my classes. I'm glad they're just prerequisites that I need for the program right now, so I guess I can just retry any classes I do horrible in lol. I refuse to be a cashier the rest of my life.

I forgot to mention that my Mercury is also retrograde, which I'm sure has something to do with it too. I'm actually good at remembering things and writing essays ect. and once I study things I tend to remember them easily when the test comes up, UNLESS I'm stressed out by other stuff in my life. Then I can't remember anything! I think my problem with tests is moreso actually getting my mind to calm down enough so that i CAN study. I also tend to procrastinate til the last minute and don't study til the night before the test, or don't write a paper til the night before it's due. I feel like something about the 'OH MY GOD I NEED TO DO THIS NOW' feeling actually makes me focus more bc I know I don't have any time left to mess around and it HAS to be done or I'll fail so the freaking out is what makes me focus if that makes any sense lol.

Social anxiety here, amongst other things. I stuttered for a while when I was a small child, thanks to my grandmother bullying me. I had Saturn and Pluto opposing my Aries planets, including Mercury, from the 12th house, and Uranus would also have transited my Moon/Venus/Nodes (opposed), and squared my Mars.

My retro sag mercury is in the 12th house, conjunct sun. Has a wide conjunction with uranus. Sextile MC.

Normally, I don't have communication difficulties, but I do stutter when I get very excited. With a million thoughts coursing through my mind, trying to fight each other to get "out" first, it's hard not to stutter lol.

Sometimes when I'm very very excited, I hyperventilate and just can't get any word out at all.

I read very fast with my eyes, it's a good thing for me most of the time. But it's the reason I have issues with reading out loud. I stumble when my mouth can't keep up.

Mercury Rx in Virgo/7th house

Mercury conjunct Sun
Mercury square Moon
Mercury conjunct Venus
Mercury square Mars
Mercury trine Saturn
Mercury trine Neptune
Mercury trine Uranus
Mercury sextile Pluto

and Aquarius ASC (which seems to be a pattern here)

I have had communication problems before and still do sometimes. I also communicate better in writing than I do in-person. I had serious speech problems when I was younger, and had to see a speech therapist a couple of times a week. It still messes with my confidence, though. Even though I can visualize saying the word correctly in my head, I struggle to pronounce it correctly because of nerves. If I manage to not think about it too much before I start talking, I usually do just fine. It's only when I'm nervous that it acts up.

My 6 yr old nephew has a pronunciation problem. His Libra Mercury falls into his tenth house conjuncting Mars and Venus and squaring his third house Jupiter (widely). His Mercury also squares his Pluto (second house).

I've heard Saturn in the third house being linked to communication problems, but I've only seen it manifest in shyness.

I have stuttered since I was about 4 years old. I did read another post in LindaLand that stuttering is common with hard aspects to Mercury. And apparently I have a lot of Mercury aspects.

My Mercury is in Pisces in the 8th house.

I have:
Mercury conjunct Sun ('0)
Mercury conjunct Moon ('0)
Mercury square Saturn ('4)
Mercury sextile Neptune ('1)
Mercury trine Pluto ('3)
Mercury square Chiron ('2)

My dad stutters as well, but you can barely tell because he tries to hide it. I looked at his chart and he has a few challenging aspects to Mercury as well. I have many friends who stutter thanks to a conference I go to annually. Maybe I'll look up some of their charts and see if there's a common theme with Mercury. Hmmmm.... :-)

The stigma of Chiron in the 3rd causes communication problems is completely false for me. My profession/joy/passion is writing, and I've never had a problem expressing myself.

Anywhoo, I'd imagine like the poster above said that it has to do with Mercury afflictions.

I had some trouble when I was very young with pronouncing some words. To the extent that I worked with a speech therapist. By high school I was president of National Forensic League at my school (speech and debate club for those who don't know it), and voted class speaker.

Thank you Mercury square Saturn...

The third house and mercury encompass all forms of communication. Not just speech. I write just fine actually but i totally stutter. Just because you personally dont , doesnt mean you can dismiss the whole thing as fact.

I don't consider stuttering stigmatizing either because i have the sense to know that you can still be intelligent and have a speech impediment.

My mercury isn't afflicted either. Your comments are honestly somewhat ignorant and borderline offensive but you probably don't care anyway, you'll just view it with grandeur as you "speaking your truth in the face of resistance"

what do i know im just an english major. Im out.

I'm truly sorry if I offended you Spongebob! Didn't mean it that way at all, and I don't pretend to know everything.

Steph asked what causes communication difficulties. When I said chiron in the 3rd was false, I made sure to add "for me". I definitely didn't say the stigma is false for everyone.

I personally don't rule Chiron as a mark for problems because I've never had trouble in that area. In another thread, Ami Anne described Chiron as healing and that's how I perceive it in my 3rd. I'm healed through writing.

About Hard Mercury Aspects: I said "I imagine" because I DONT know. How is that ignorant? I was making an educated guess based on the poster's experience and other experiences I've had with people with those placements. But the truth is, I honestly DONT know. I just wanted to offer my experience to Steph because she asked for advice. I feel like that's trying to be helpful, not offensive or ignorant. Is Astrology really so set in stone that Chiron in the 3rd definitely means communication problems? Or even that mercury afflictions means that? Definitely not! It depends on how they play out in our lives and the symbolism and how they relate to the rest of our charts.

Interesting, what mercury aspects do you have? I'm a retrograde mercury too and have to work hard to be clear with oral communication but I've always found writing to be so much easier. I always thought that mercury rx preferred writing > speaking, but maybe not...

I've researched this question and found that every case of stuttering involved Mercury conjunct or in hard aspect to Saturn or Pluto.

Difficulty putting things into words is indicative of Mercury in a water sign.
