Just wanted to really try and break this down...I'd love your thoughts.

My instinct is that it is over simplified, in this case, to discuss the Mars rx position as a 'Venusian' expression of Mars.

I'm thinking that the Mars direct will dominate the Mars RX even if the romantic situation is steamy at first, and that the Mars RX will either love this in a submissive context or that there will be combative elements that will come out later...I suppose both.

What you do you think presents for a relationship between people? In this case, the Mars placement is in Scorpio, so powerful, and the man has the rx while the woman has the direct expression. Thoughts?

That's an interesting question.

Synastry theories do not talk about what happens when one of the planets involved in a conjunction is RX.

In the example you gave, I would surmise -and it's just a theory- that the direct Mars could feel hampered and held back, while the RX Mars could feel stimulated to move forward. There could be a push and pull aspect to this relationship.

It wouldn't have to be negative. It could be an aspect that inspires the direct Mars to think more before it acts, and the RX Mars to dare moving forward outwardly instead of expressing things inwardly.

That's a great take! My jumping off point was centered around a standard interpretation of competition based interaction with a conjunction of Mars placements and so I focused on how each party might respond to that competition...

I like the added idea about push/pull...

It would be wonderful to know fi anyone has any good technical references for retrograde interpretations in synastry...there has to be a few astrologers out there over there course of history who have been able to study this?
