Now, some may not like anything about Neptune in synastry since they may chalk it up to little more than illusion, deception, etc., but when I was researching both Venus/Neptune aspects in synastry as well as Mars/Neptune aspects, something caught my eye.

It looks like when it comes to Venus/Neptune synastry, Venus tends to project onto Neptune, but with Mars/Neptune, it looks like the other way around--that Neptune projects on Mars. I was trying to figure out who projected onto whom before, and thought I was missing something when I came across apparently conflicting information. Now it doesn't seem so conflicting, just that the projections switch between Venus and Mars onto Neptune.

It goes both ways, in my experience.

I wonder if this is why I don't mesh well with Cancers or seem to befriend (I don't push them away, they just don't draw me in) many Taurus Suns (my Moon is Tau.)

Neptune is my Sun's ruler and Cancer (moon) is my 12th house ruler.

But I'm getting off topic.

I'm not sure which planet is the dominate, or the projector, in those pairings.

At it's best, Neptune is supposed to be a higher form of Venus so it makes sense that Venus would project onto Neptune. Since Neptune is ever trying to evolve into it's higher, Venusian-like self. Neptune on other less forgiving personal planets in synastry, or dynamic in the case of Mars, could cause the lies and deceptions that are constantly feared when Neptune is present. I don't think that's always the case though. I think Neptune/Mars can also create a beautifully spiritual sexual union between two people even if the Neptune person hasn't recognized their higher self yet, but that's still Neptune projecting onto Mars.

I'm not so sure that Neptune doesn't do the same to Venus, too. Unless there are other supporting aspects, I think the Neptune person could have the capacity to disillusion the Venus person into thinking there is a special love or relationship between them when there isn't.

But in a perfect world of Twin Flames all being united:
Venus projects to Neptune:
Venus person brings out all the divine qualities of the Neptune person and their love is one that is cherished and enjoyed by everyone around them because both are exquistie in their feelings for each other and everyone/thing around them.

Neptune projects to Mars:
The Neptune person soothes the Mars person. Shows them a deep, physical connection that transcends any mortal bickering or disputes. There is a new type of peace brought to the Mars person as they are guided by their Neptunian partner in new ways of spiritualism and love..

Oh to be in a perfect world..

I noticed that with Neptune/Mars in synastry - Neptune is ever so elusive and hard to pin down...Mars tries and tries and tries to corner them and possess them for once, but the Neptune person always slips away, not too far, always close to Mars but not withing a reach.

I am Neptune, he is Mars (in a square).
I don´t know why, but even I have noticed something definitely elusive about my behaviour. I don´t really want it, it just happens. I slip away; and yet I DO feel a strong attraction to him. It has reached a point where even I think my behaviour is a little absurd. LOL
At the same time, he is one of the very few people, with whom my invisibility-cloak just doesn´t work. Usually I can get invisible at will (sort of), it doesn`t work with him.

Ironically his Venus is exactly semisquare my Neptune as well. lol

Great feedback so far, except to just say "it goes both ways"... that doesn't mean it's experienced the same both ways. To me, it's a given that synastry isn't experienced only one way, but I'm looking at the specific ways it's experienced one way versus the other. To me, this seems to be why synastry can sometimes be tricky.

12thhouser,

Is your Mercury in Aquarius? You almost always disagree with me! Must be some square aspect going on

Of course, I can see what you mean.
The two people probably experience it differently, but personally, I've always felt like the fantasy/idealisation went both ways. But here's the thing: when I am the Neptune person, I am quite fascinated by the personal planet person, and yet I'm afraid to disappoint them, so I can act elusive, indeed. It's just that the connection feels so otherworldly that I'm afraid to burst my own bubble, so to speak. It's like I don't want to disappoint them or be disappointed by them.

The personal planet person is usually more "down to earth" in their approach, although they are likely to idealise the Neptune person, also. They may be more willing to let reality set in than the Neptune person. And that's where the danger lies. They can misinterpret and misunderstand each other. I think honest communcation is a must-have with Neptune in synastry.

Neptune is my 7th house ruler. I've only had Neptune contacts with one person in synastry, and that is my Neptune conjunct her Venus/Neptune conjunction.

I don't know if she projects anything onto me though. The connection feels otherworldly and surreal.

I guess Mars/Neptune would play out differently since both would be malefics in that aspect whereas Neptune would act as a benefic when paired with Venus since it is the higher octave of Venus.

Gemini Sun
Libra Moon
Gemini Mercury
Cancer Venus
Virgo Mars
Virgo Asc

And yes, I'm a guy!

I'm one of those people that actually likes heavy Neptune aspects in synastry and composite, and I'm disappointed if I don't see them, because I like that dreamy, ethereal, hazy-romantic quality, but like I've said before, that might be because I have Venus aspecting Neptune natally anyway. If there's no twinkly, magical vibes there I usually don't get that worked up about the other person.

I have had Venus-Neptune conjunction in love relationship maybe 3-4 times because my 18 Scorp Venus conjuncts Neptune of all the men born some years before me (muhahahaaa). It always started with crazy romantic otherwordly quality (that I crave) and always ended in a catastrophe because basically Neptune acted as if he was VERY MUCH in love, but nothing developed and when I asked then the Neptune person said that "there is something blabla", but obviously not anything so strong that he would have acted on it. I hate this aspect now.

I have Mars-Neptune DW (tight conjunction, Im mars, and wide opposition, Im Neptune) with the guy I have a big crush on. His Neptune is sitting also on my Moon (5 degrees). He is a slippery Fish who likes to tease me endlessly, touch and hug, but as he is married, this remains very probably only on this level.... Fortunately my Neptune makes also aspects to some of his planets, so I hope I delude him as well

In my opinion, the planetary person projects their hopes and desires onto the neptune person. They see a savior, redeemer, the ultimate person who can fulfill their longings in Neptune. But when they realise that Neptune is a mere human, feelings of deception creep in. And all begins to seem like an illusion.

However, it's different when a person has venus/neptune or mars/neptune in the natal chart. Being a generational aspect, they share this aspect with every person of and around their age. So the projection is mutual. But i've noticed that it's often neptune, in this case, who ends up feeling decieved.

Been through sun, mercury, moon, venus ,mars, jupiter, uranus, neptune, pluto/neptune. I love the easy aspects. Better stay away from the hard ones.

With Mars/Neptune - in my experience... the Mars person thinks: "HOT DAMN - sex with this person would be out of this world!! It would be like my deepest fantasies come to life, only better!"

Which is definitely over-idealsing ^^

Neptune is more like: "I want a fairytale. Mars is my knight in shinning armour.. or... My princess trapped in a castle.. awaiting my rescue bla bla"
Neptune = Disney.

But I agree with Doux - They are both utterly delusional about the other.

I have Mars/Neptune conjunct on my DC in natal - and I've often encountered the aspect in synastry. With two of these guys I had double-whammies.
