What has been your experience of conjunct ascendants in synastry? Its fairly tight, 1deg.

Beyond this, our chart rulers (mercury) are also conjunct- out of sign though. 29deg aqu and 0deg pisces.

Great mental interaction that's for sure, how has this manifested for other people with conjunct ascendants in different signs?

My experience is that there is something there, some kind of likeness connection. In my experience I don't think it's enough to solidify a friendship even, not by itself.
