In Vedic astrology this is referred to as Jyotish. This is something that has been studied and practiced for a long time. The idea is that energies infused into you from your birth chart may have some factors that involve uncomfortable pull that can be muted or neutralized using the gem stones. Or that you may have simply over-emphasized some of those energies and could use some counter-balancing factors. A well chosen gemstone worn on your body for most of all of the day may improve your sense of balance and may smooth out some 'astro turbulence' quite a bit. It certainly works for me. I keep 15-20 tiny Peridot stones taped to my thymus area nearly all the time. And I have used numerous other gemstones and crystals at various times: https://kannonmcafee.wordpress.com/crystals-gems/ This isn't necessarily the same as wearing gems that are identified with your key signs or planets. Then there is the Crystal Bible, a reference I find to be absolutely 100% reliable for determining what the gems actually do and which ones are more likely to help you. Another source for gems in an oval necklace pendent setting is: http://www.pulsorpendant.com/#!vintage-pendants/c112d ------------------ Professional astrology - Expert rectification http://kannonmcafee.wordpress.com/ Rising Sign descriptions: https://kannonmcafee.wordpress.com/rising-signs-2/

I've never gotten into this stuff too much but I did impulse buy a tiny bottle of red jasper. I don't know what to make of it except the basic online information. I do carry it around as a basic luck charm even if I don't wholly understand it. It's usually in a pocket or in my backpackIP: Logged |

Hey Koho - thanks for stopping by. Here's what the Crystal Bible says about Red Jasper ...Jasper is known generally as the "supreme nurturer." Its a life sustainer. Red Jasper is gently stimulating while also grounding. It also helps bring some problems to light before they snowball into something too big to handle. She calls it an "excellent worry bead." It can help with dream recall when placed under your pillow at night. It stimulates the root chakra (red color), and helps with rebirthing/transformation. Based on what you've said about your chart's Taurus/Scorpio axis with Pluto, it sounds like a pretty solid support stone for you. ------------------ Professional astrology - Expert rectification http://kannonmcafee.wordpress.com/ Rising Sign descriptions: https://kannonmcafee.wordpress.com/rising-signs-2/ IP: Logged |

I have a special Herkimer Diamond. I was away from home for almost a month and suddenly this crystal popped into my head and I felt so sad. He was communicating to me that he missed me and how dare I leave him for so long. Since then I have always taken him with me everywhere I go. When I first bought him he lady who was selling him told me he wanted to go with me. IP: Logged |

I'm so attached to my stones I literally feel sad when I forget them. I even feel kind of bad for a stone when I chose to wear a new one, lol!!IP: Logged |

This reminds me of Marsilio Ficino, the Renaissance philosopher who used astrology and natural magic to counteract Saturn on his Ascendant. I enjoyed the post you linked to on your website. Thanks! I've used crystals and gems, but in the form of elixirs and loved the effects. IP: Logged |

Thank you for reminding me about elixirs. I wanted to do this for a long time but forgot.

A good read. Thanks. I believe blue kyanite somewhat helps to relieve the "heated feel" which I've always had since I was little. It used to sometimes manifest into physical symptoms like red watery eyes, nose bleeds, issues with digestion, headache, dizziness, fever n what not. Herbal medicines helped to keep those symptoms at bay. As I grew up it got considerably better. I wrapped my stone in copper wire. May I ask if copper wire can interfere with the stone's effects?

It should not interfere at all. I've used Kyanite quite a bit. Its a great stone for achieving balance of polar energies and relieving pain. Glad its helped you ------------------ Professional astrology - Expert rectification http://kannonmcafee.wordpress.com/ Rising Sign descriptions: https://kannonmcafee.wordpress.com/rising-signs-2/ IP: Logged |

Hi Kannon McAfee Im a Gemini Sun, Leo moon, Cancer Rising woman. I was gifted a pair of ear rings- a large emerald in the centre surrounded by smaller emeralds on an ethnic gold setting by my mom. Can I wear it? I have read emeralds should be worn by Taureans. Not sure if it will bring me luck. Would like your opinion on this. Thank you in advance. have a great day : )IP: Logged |

I like crystals, they're pretty and also comforting regardless of whether they "do" anything or not. Some people are sensitive enough to feel their varying vibrations and some just aren't.When I meditate, I usually surround myself with various crystals, I hold amethyst in my hands. My boyfriend's mother gave me a ring with jade in it (she's from China, it's a tradition to pass jade down), and I recently went out and bought a Moldavite pendant necklace. Amethyst had a tendency to give me strong chills. The Moldavite made me feel really warm, spaced out and hypersensitive in varying aspects at first but I seem to have adjusted to it now. IP: Logged |

Of course. Why not try it out and see how it feels? Real gems will definitely have an effect that can be felt as opposed to 'costume' jewelry. ------------------ Professional astrology - Expert rectification http://kannonmcafee.wordpress.com/ Rising Sign descriptions: https://kannonmcafee.wordpress.com/rising-signs-2/ IP: Logged |

I'm not a fan of picking gemstones based on zodiac. I say - if you want to improve something, google "gemstones for X" or buy a good book about metaphysical properties. You can also learn something on youtube. My favorite gem channels: https://www.youtube.com/user/phanie12/videos https://www.youtube.com/user/TheSpiritualMom36/videos ------------------ My sister in arms presents... IP: Logged |

Yeah, I'm not in favor of picking gems based on your zodiac sign(s). Occasionally I hear of/from people who are satisfied with their 'birth stone' but that's just not a reliable way to find a stone that will truly give you balance. Same for the this-for-that approach, because a physical condition or goal rarely correlates to the overall energy signature of a stone.Best way is to go by feel and actually touch or hold a stone in store. I don't recommend buying online unless you've already touched/held such a stone that a friend had. Sometimes you may get such a strong impression from a good book like the Crystal Bible that you just know you want a certain stone even if it is not to wear daily. They is looking for balance, not a for special power or a superficial zodiac or 'birth stone' match. ------------------ Professional astrology - Expert rectification http://kannonmcafee.wordpress.com/ Rising Sign descriptions: https://kannonmcafee.wordpress.com/rising-signs-2/ IP: Logged |

This is a great thread, and a great topic in general.I need to research this more, because I'm literally surrounded by crystals and have been since I was a kid (my grandfather was a miner and its a normal thing in our family to have at least 15-20 crystals per room as a decoration, as he brought home hundreds of beautiful crystals while he was still working). I must have about 40-50 crystals in my home right now. From what you're saying, they must be having some influence - I can't believe I've never looked into it. Thank you so much for this Kannon, you've sent me on a learning journey now IP: Logged |

I was actually going to say that this would be the best way to obtain gems: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0wcJ4HPWau0 I wanna go there quote: Same for the this-for-that approach, because a physical condition or goal rarely correlates to the overall energy signature of a stone.
But you said: Then there is the Crystal Bible, a reference I find to be absolutely 100% reliable for determining what the gems actually do and which ones are more likely to help you. Choosing gemstones with the help of such a book is the approach you just dismissed. I agree that it would be best to buy something in person whether one has a particular type in mind or not. Even if the local stores have exaggerated prices it would be good to make a visit and feel the gems out. ------------------ My sister in arms presents... IP: Logged |

The best way I can describe the Crystal Bible for those who have not browsed through it or read it more closely is that it has the best overall constitutional profiles for the types people who could benefit from a particular stone. It may mention particular conditions or areas of the body that could be helped, but it may list many of them. It is literally a guidebook that I've found is the most reliable of the number of books I have read on gems and crystals for healing. The presentation and information is so true that I can also flip through while focusing on the person/need and land on the open page that displays the appropriate stone. Like many people would do with a tarot or medicine card deck of some type. I've done this with myself and others many times. Other books are n't formatted in a way that would allow that (multiple stones itemized on a page). Or the book's material may not resonate with me strong enough to work in that fashion. Jyotish may be a good place to start for people who don't have the confidence to work in this manner, but whatever method you use, you can certainly find better balance with the appropriate stones/crystals which can negate some difficult astrological influences("afflictions" in the old terms). I will also be including Pulsor products on my gems and crystals page soon. Even though they are man-made microcrystals and I don't yet understand well enough the principle(s) involved, I have the Andromedian (seen here: http://www.energyintegrity.com/products/shop/ ) and it is working for me very well. In only my second day of use I can tell where it is going with the balancing effect on my energy field, so I highly recommend these products. The pulsors are pricey, but they slowly reorganize your energy field by filtering out what are not your resonant frequencies. That is the best I can describe it for now. ------------------ Professional astrology - Expert rectification http://kannonmcafee.wordpress.com/ Rising Sign descriptions: https://kannonmcafee.wordpress.com/rising-signs-2/ IP: Logged |

Thank you for this thread, Kannon! The Universe suggested that I look into crystals and gems for healing purposes.I read your blog post and it seems that I may have to get my hands on some smoky quartz and/or ruby. I've been clinically depressed for nearly 2 years and need something to help get me back on my feet. Would you recommend that I wear them separately or together? I may even pick up the Crystal Bible per your recommendation. IP: Logged |

LOL... I know, I've always considered myself very lucky with that, they are gorgeous. I just need to make sure they're giving the right energy! And yes, this is the best way to obtain them, it makes them much more personal too Do you have any significant Earth placements in your chart, Aunt Anomalia? IP: Logged |

I'd say try them together. Smokey Quartz can help with that 'giving up on life' feeling and help you get grounded back into pleasurable living; Ruby is more energizing. I think they go together great. Sometimes it is a matter of getting enough stones or large enough stones on your body. Trying more/larger ones is better than giving up right away and thinking it won't work. You should not need a large ruby and it can be in raw, un-tumbled/un-polished form and work just fine. Good luck with them and let me know how it goes. ------------------ Professional astrology - Expert rectification http://kannonmcafee.wordpress.com/ Rising Sign descriptions: https://kannonmcafee.wordpress.com/rising-signs-2/ IP: Logged |

The only other book that I really like that I can recommend as a very valuable resource because it is also a pocket sized portable book is The Essential Guide to Crystals by Simon and Sue Lilly. It is very handy because the stones are listed according to color; red, orange, yellow, etc. This allows for quick reference if you can only remember the typical color, but not the name. This also seems to me an appropriate way to categorize the stones since the color often links them strongly to a particular energy center/chakra. I know there are lots of books on the healing uses of gems/crystals, and I've seen lots of them but these two books are the true standouts in my experience. ------------------ Professional astrology - Expert rectification http://kannonmcafee.wordpress.com/ Rising Sign descriptions: https://kannonmcafee.wordpress.com/rising-signs-2/ IP: Logged |
