Context is everything. A shirtless guy at or by the beach doesn't even register to me, a guy who takes off his shirt to keep the sweat out of his eyes and/or from getting into what he's working on (typically by tying the sleeves around the head) seems prudent, otherwise he could easily be silly to me (which I sometimes like, and sometimes roll my eyes at, and sometimes both).

Can't say what's astrologically involved, and it could depend on why someone does so (whether to show off or to fit in or just being practical). That is, different placements would have different reasons to do so. As someone else mentioned, culture is also important.

I have yet to watch the Twilight movies, but I have thought about the kind of drinking game I'd play if I ever did, and that one boy ripping off his shirt over and over again (to sell more tickets) would definitely feature into it.

The guy I know does it only in the summer, but he wears than one of these white common vests, he would be of an older generation, but the shirt goes off as soon as the first rays appears.
