There are some similarities in all signs that share the earth element, like Virgo and Capricorn do.

First, I would check if you have many Saturn aspects to your personal planets, as they could give a Capricorn feel to the planets touched by Saturn.

Secondly check the houses that your planets fall into, planets in the 10th may express themselves in areas Capricorn is concerned with, as it rules the 10th house.

one way to find it is to see what mode is most dominant, then element.. so because i have mainly all cardinal signs.. and earth, one of my signatures would be Capricorn..
theres a second signature, but at the moment I'm having a hard time remember the exact steps.. but it has to do with the dominant planets in houses then figuring out the element too..

my dad is a virgo sun, with virgo rising and aries moon, and he too is extremely hardworking / efficient person. hes probably the hardest working person i know next to my Taurus uncle with aries moon.

but i can see how he can come across as a Capricorn, both being very hardworking, silly sense of humor, and being meticulous and particular and so forth.. i would also need to take into consideration that his Saturn is conj his IC, so his Saturn is actually prominent.. and his sun is in the Saturn decan of virgo.

what i can say that really makes the difference.. is when i compare my virgo father and my Capricorn step father.. who also has a fire moon.. is that Saturn vs mercury have a HUGE difference in my eyes as far as influencing the signs. virgo by nature is very vocal, since its ruling my mercury makes it very restless and although a very strong and stubborn sign.. rather changeable also, theres a wittiness and creativity to virgo that is "lighter" than Capricorn due to mercury's influence. Capricorn on the other hand from my experience.. lacks the words to express itself at times.. its far more restrained and to be honest.. the coldness of Capricorn can be a bit too much for me at times.. its far colder than virgo. my step dad has an almost.. "wet blanket" effect ha, his seriousness can sort of weight things down if you know what i mean.. but theres this very traditional and strict way about him that is different than my dad, who can be similar but its expressed in a more unconventional way. as far as follow through.. id say Capricorn has that over virgo. Capricorn also will hold onto ways of doing things vs virgo since its mutable will change easier, or be more open to trying. theres this.. sad and melancholic sadness about Capricorn/Saturn, its so weighted yet so restrained it has a hard time coming out and comes across as mope-e-ness and grumbling. that's how my step dad is.. haha, hes such a moody guy secretively.. but its still so obvious ha. hes very responsible about his money, treats my mom right financially.. but i guess that's why Capricorn could learn from cancer.. is that hes so invested in practical matters and what is appropriate that he lacks emotion and love to the people closest to him.. his relationship with my little brother and sister is strange.. he doesn't get their respect in a way because he never shows warmth and affection.. only coldness and when needed a good yelling or too to do the right thing!
