I have been researching the effects of Pluto and Neptune, and found them to be BIG players in pop culture and how world events take place, as well as how children often tend to have the same ideals as their parents, along with the ideals that were prominent during the time they were born. This is too significant to ignore, as people born with Pluto and Neptune in the signs tend to carry the energies of that time period for their entire lives. I do have new names for a couple generations as well.

Pluto in Cancer/Neptune in Leo- These were the people born during the Roaring Twenties, mainly to the Pluto/Neptune in Gemini generation. They idealized self expression, entertainment, and materialism, like the era they were born in, but they were about family and patriotism at the core. This group is known as the Greatest Generation, as they were the younger soldiers of WWII, and came of age in the years after the war and Great Depression, and became the parents of the Baby Boomers, which I'll get into shortly.

Pluto in Cancer/Neptune in Virgo- This is the second wave of the Pluto in Cancer generation, born mainly to the Pluto in Gemini/Neptune in Cancer generation, who were the older WWII soldiers, and while also about family and patriotism (the Neptune in Cancers idealized family and country, but it was the core reality of the Pluto in Cancers. Pluto signs are like the Sun sign, but of the entire age group, while the Neptune sign's more like the generational Moon sign), they idealized work and service, because they were born in an era where unemployment was extremely high. Known as the Silent Generation, they wanted to give their kids, Generation X, the life they didn't have as kids as a result of the Great Depression. This generation is also notable for having no presidents, also fitting for a "silent" generation, as both Michael Dukakis and John McCain lost their elections to Bush Sr. and Obama.

Pluto in Leo/Neptune in Libra- These are the children of the Neptune in Leo Greatest Generation, the Baby Boomers. Only this time, what the GIs idealized was the Boomers' core reality: self expression, entertainment, and also materialism. The self expression mixed with their idealization of relationships and justice as a result of their Neptune in Libra is the major indicator of the hippie movement, which came during the Vietnam War draft protests, as well as the feminist and civil rights movements of the 60s and 70s. This generation is the one responsible for classic rock becoming mainstream (which was mainly during Pluto in Libra), as all of the major classic rock bands/artists have Pluto in Leo, and around 90% have Neptune in Libra. Unfortunately, they are also known as the "me" generation, due to the materialism that came from this group after the hippie movement (hence why the term "Reagan Democrats" was coined). The vast majority of the big names in government, including the Clintons, Bush brothers, and Trump, have Pluto in Leo and around half have Neptune in Libra, including the mentioned names.

Pluto in Virgo/Neptune in Scorpio- This group is Generation X, the children of the Silent Generation. Work, service, health, and technology were this group's core reality, while they idealized sexuality and the occult. This group came of age during the Reagan and Bush Sr. Pluto in Scorpio years, which are also the years where heavy metal and grunge music, which this age group is responsible for (Metallica, Megadeth, Anthrax, Slayer, Pantera, Nirvana, Def Leppard, Alice In Chains, and Guns N Roses are all mainly Pluto Virgo/Neptune Scorpio in membership), became mainstream. MTV also came on the air when this group was coming of age, hence why they're called the "MTV Generation". With this group's cynicism, idealization of sex, drugs, and the occult, and the music genres they were responsible for, there's a good reason why they're called Generation "X".

Pluto in Libra/Neptune in Sagittarius- These are the children of the Baby Boomers. As usual, relationships and justice are this group's core reality, while they idealize long distance travel, globalization, and spirituality/religion. Known as Generation Y (as a common saying when this group came of age in the late 90s and 2000s is "why can't we all just get along?", which is PURE Pluto in Libra/Neptune in Sagittarius), this group is responsible for the boy bands and pop music throughout the late 90s and 2000s, as N Sync, the Backstreet Boys, 98 Degrees, Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, the Spice Girls, Kelly Clarkson, and Carrie Underwood all have this combo, and their music became mainstream during Pluto in Sagittarius. Pluto in Sagittarius is also the era of religious fanaticism, which is a result of Neptune in Sagittarius people taking their religious beliefs to the extreme, thus exposing that organized religion is NOT always peaceful and is more often than not another method of division when we should be united (Pluto in Sagittarius at work, exposing religion).

Pluto in Scorpio/Neptune in Capricorn- These are the Millennials, the children of Generation X. As usual, what Generation X idealized, became the Millennials' core reality, as this group is known for its tattoos and black clothing, while they idealize a government that works in everybody's best interest. It's no coincidence that they came of age during the Great Recession, which took place when Pluto entered Capricorn, where it has become common knowledge that governments work for their own best interests, as well as those of the corporations that bribe them. As for music, so far pop music is still dominant, but the artists are more known for their brands and image. Famous Neptune in Capricorn artists include Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga, Adele, Iggy Azalea, Selena Gomez, Miley Cyrus, etc. Dubstep has also become popular, as it is very Pluto in Scorpio.

Pluto in Sagittarius/Neptune in Aquarius- The children of Generation Y. This generation doesn't have a proper name yet as only the oldest ones have graduated high school, but this generation, like the rest, will have Generation Y's ideals, spirituality/religion, travel, and globalization, be their core identity, while they idealize innovation, science and technology, and equality (they were born in a time period where reality TV, where regular everyday people were getting their 5 minutes of fame, was dominant and cell phones and internet, very innovative inventions, were mainstream).

Pluto in Capricorn/Neptune in Pisces- Way too young yet, though I'm sure what us Millennials idealize will be their reality, while they'll idealize alternative spirituality and healing methods.

Planetary tables for Pluto and Neptune:
http://web.archive.org/web/20151023041411/http://www.librarising.com/astrology/tables/plutosigns.html http://web.archive.org/web/20150325200830/http://www.librarising.com/astrology/tables/neptunesigns.html (everything but the main page on this site isn't up anymore for some reason)

How to tell them apart: Feminine Plutos bring more femininity to the appearance, while it's vice versa for masculine Plutos, and feminine Neptunes result in more graceful facial features than masculine Neptunes (to really see the difference, look at pictures of Pluto in Cancer celebrities with Neptune in Leo and Neptune in Virgo and compare). Each masculine Pluto/Neptune generation is much older than the others, and same goes with the feminine Pluto/Neptune generations.

All in all, Pluto and Neptune cannot be ignored, especially when it comes to the pop culture fads and how they're related to the Neptune generation that's currently coming of age, and how people with Neptune in a sign tend to give birth to kids with Pluto in the same sign as their Neptune (there are exceptions, and I'm one of them as both my parents have Pluto in Leo/Neptune in Libra, while I'm Pluto in Scorpio/Neptune in Capricorn), and that's without mentioning how this explains why everybody from a certain age group acts a certain way, especially around each other. Just because they're not personal planets, does not mean they should be ignored.

Interesting read. I don't listen to a lot of dubstep, but it reminds me more of Transiting Neptune in Aquarius and Pisces.

my daughter has Neptune on the aqua Pisces cusp conjunct Venus, Ceres, and Chiron, and Pluto in Capricorn (square her Sun and Jupiter/Saturn opposition).

I enjoyed reading this, thank you! Brilliant points.
