Hey everyone,I'm not sure if this is the right thread for this question but anyways. I'm writing a Thesis at the moment and Astrology is a part of it - I'm wondering if you could recommend any Scholars or pieces of Academic writing, books or Articles on Astrology to research that might help me! Thanks IP: Logged |

Moonlight, literally tons of books have been written on astrology. You'd need years to read and digest all of them. I could give you the titles and authors of a few of the old classics, but it's doubtful that any but the largest libraries will have them in their collections. Are you in a large city? What is the topic of your thesis and for what academic field are you writing it? Are you looking for a broad overview of Astrology, or are you zooming in on one particular area? IP: Logged |

There was quite a bit of astrological research coming out of the St Petersburg School of Astrology. They were doing statistical analysis of charts of married couples looking for occurrences of different aspects in synastry. Their work is all in Russian, unfortunately. Also, I believe German schools do more of a formal research. Possibly ASTRO journals wold be a place to start? I think Steve Judd did a masters degree with a topic related to Astrology and could have his thesis available with references online. What are you writing on? IP: Logged |

Thanks for the replies guys.I'm a Performing Arts student- I'll be looking at Astrology in relation to Theatre. I'm focusing on how Astrology can aid an Actor in the research process of a character. Of course these characters must be non-fictional for it to be used. I am also interested in researching Carl Jung and his Archetypes. The reason why I asked is because there are so many books on Astrology and I'd love if anyone could recommend Scholars who are highly respected. My lecturers are a big iffy about my Thesis being based Astrology so I really need some good backup for my writing! please don't quote this message IP: Logged |

I think this is as good an angle as you could take. Jung is very well respected and he embraced both astrology and the broad spectrum of archetypal mythic character across humanity (as Joe Campbell did). I was having trouble coming up with a suggestion, but I think you've got a great idea there. ------------------ The Declinations Guy > Expert birth chart rectification > Rising Sign Descriptions ♈ ♉ ♊ ♋ ♌ ♍ ♎ ♏ ♐ ♑ ♒ ♓ IP: Logged |

Thanks Kannon, yes I was also thinking Carl Jung is the best possible route to take! I know quite little about him but I think he is my only hope if I want the Thesis to get past my lecturers and be approved! I'm looking forward to studying him more thoroughly! IP: Logged |

Anyone know much on Dane Rudhyar? He sounds like a good link between astrology + Jungian Psychology! IP: Logged |

Meh. I'd stick with Jung. Rudhyar is overblown. Good writer though. You'd be better off with Robert Hand's work like Horoscope Symbols, or Liz Greene's work.------------------ The Declinations Guy > Expert birth chart rectification > Rising Sign Descriptions ♈ ♉ ♊ ♋ ♌ ♍ ♎ ♏ ♐ ♑ ♒ ♓ IP: Logged |

maybe focusing in one of the archetypes of jung. how about the movies of fellini that has a strong Jungian motive with the "anima" archetype? maybe that could make your lecturers happy here a suggestiong. maybe how selection of characters in a film are portrayers of the archetypes of the movie. for instance, movies with strong mars component has primary actors with strong mars-aries in their charts. etc

Thanks nordicsoul! I've decided to stick to theatre and I'm focusing on the 4 humors and 4 astrological temperaments through Shakespearean characters. Also hoping to bring Jung's Archetypes into it! IP: Logged |

I LOVE your Idea!! I may be able to add some refs that could lead you to materials you could or might be able to use-- even if for mining their index and bibliographies. Let me think about some things for a while. I have some ideas top of my head... But I need to give it a rest for the rest of the day now... Give me some time. (My place here is a wreck from the storm-preps I had to do. I've misplaced some important items... Give me a little time. .. We did fine in the storm, btw. No damage to place.) Are you IN the USA? ... Which region? Which Country? ____________ Will be throwing ideas and some loose refs at you... in no particular order. With the book-refs, you could probably 'borrow' them through your InterLibraryLoan (ILL) system (if USA). Some that I will pass along are usually standard if your library system is broad enough. - http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/319949.The_Fated_Sky - http://scholarship.richmond.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=2094&context=masters-theses (BTW--- I am NOT reading through these... leaving that for YOU! ..) You could probably search this site for good article leads... and contacts. - http://astrologynewsservice.com/news/was-shakespeare-a-fan-of-astrology/ Depending on where you say you are... I might have some other ideas you might like, as contacts, and even field-trips to arrange? There are several astrologers who also are involved in drama (and theatre?)... I heard one being interviewed in a webinar a few months ago... I need to jog my memory. Give me time. Let us/me know your country, your general locale? This man was very Creative... a composer, artist... You might want to poke around some of his things. See what you dig up. - http://www.astro.com/astro-databank/Rudhyar,_Dane
The associate linked at the bottom of his bio named Goldschneider has written books. If you use our LL*google*Search, looking for his name, you might find links to some of his books here. Person named "Faith" used to leave those. - http://www.astro.com/astro-databank/Goldschneider,_Gary I used to be active in my local community theatre group (in younger years). One-act play competitions. That was truly a very exciting and rewarding time in my life. Thanks for the memories!! LOL Best Wishes to you....

Kepler College (Washington State, USA)Could contact them. People there might be interested in your project. They ask for articles... Might even have someone there willing to discuss your topic with you? Maybe you could do a presentation (when you're finished) for their Community Webinar offerings? http://keplercollege.org/home/index.php/articles Maybe look into using their Library, through the online or interlibrary loaning services? http://keplercollege.org/home/index.php/resources/library IP: Logged |

Hey sorry for only getting back now!Wow,Mirage thanks so much for all those links and for the information!! I'm located in Ireland - this isn't a Masters its a Bachelors degree and the Dissertation is quite short - 8,000 words max! So as much as I would like to dive into the whole topic and fully immerse myself in it - I sadly can't! But definitely plan to in the future! I will check out all your links now!!
Thanks so much Mirage! <3 IP: Logged |

My Pleasure, Moonlight Swan! I'm sure that the links I've left you will be rich for your project. You know, one of the things about going through all that work to write papers in college, is that people don't generally take it one step further? You do all that work.... Why not polish and shape what you did, and submit it as an article to be published? Of course that IS extra work you would do... but if you're really 'serious' about your acting career, this could add to your resume (should you choose to include it). It could add to your career to be known for writing articles, from which, you could craft workshops and also teach. (Ways to add money for yourself.) (If you do? and if you use any of Debra's work, please send her a copy of it, with thanks. Tell her Mirage 'mirage29' recommended her materials as a part of your study in your acting career. .. ..)
I have a VERY special place in my Heart for the Irish!
I wish you the very Best in Life and Career!! (music) It's A Great Day for The Irish (Judy Garland, from Little Nellie Kelly, 1940, lyrics) [2:40] http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qrt_PA5PflM {{oh my! I was going to leave Judy Garland's chart from Astrodienst (astro.com databank files) and it looks as those they have been 'hacked'.
