My friend is currently experiencing transit Neptune smackdab on his IC. He asked me to read his chart and I told him about it, and he said this transit describes exactly how he feels.

His world is dissolving, he's having memory problems, concentration issues, dyslexia issues, deep depression, and is seeking drugs and alcohol to cope with a feeling of being hollowed out. He also feels so weak and tired with little to no motivation to even do anything at all. He's tried everything and it's not really working for him.

I'm wondering if you have any advice for what he could do to help counteract difficult Neptune transits?

I'm not sure what to say to help him, because I know that when the mind is so chaotic and confused and basically becoming like mud, it's hard to do almost anything, but maybe someone here has something that could help.

It sounds like your friend has some serious issues to deal with. My first advice would be for him to seek professional counseling. Neptune is very tricky. In my own experience Neptune transits are about letting go and accepting that certain things are not meant to be. If it is, it will return to you. Neptune is like trying to hang on to loose sand. The harder you clench your hand, the faster the sand slips through your fingers. Addictions are difficult. I hope your friend is open to help because you can’t save someone who doesn’t want to be saved.

Tell him that instead of coping with substance abuse, it is a good time to get into spirituality, and practice meditation, visualization, compassion, feeling oneness with the world no matter what, feeling connection to God or whatever he understand God to be.

Staying away from substance abuse is key in handling challenging Neptune transits. Since he is human, for indulgence, instead of using, he can spend time watching Neptunian movies like fairy tale movies, reality bending movies, escapist movies, sad movies that make him cry, etc...

He can also donate his time to charities like feeding the poor, helping at hospices.

In other words, use Neptune constructively, until the transit is over. Because at some point, it will be over as in THIS TOO SHALL PASS.

I agree totally with both of you.
We just exactly now watched the movie 'Hans Christian Andersen, my life as a fairytale'.
Maybe watch that with him.
I know somebody who has Neptune exactly on her IC and the SN, Moon a few degrees away in 3rd house, she writes books for children.
How about writing, painting what he feels, maybe at the ocean or something spiritual, mandalas, to bring him back into his center, uniting order and spirituality ?

the meditation bit is great but movies aren't a good substitute for drugs or proper escape

if you want to be high watching a surrealistic movie will not help that in any way whatsoever

like if at the height of my heroin addiction someone said to me "just watch some fairy tale movies" i would've told them they were an ******* 🤷‍♀️ no offense or anything just saying that movies aren't enough of anything and come off almost like trivializing the addiction

I just asked the person I mentioned what she thinks, her spontaneous idea was :
He should not be afraid to loose controle and be a child.

She is very good in living her inner child, lives her placements at the IC with great joy and inner harmony, is my impression.

Are there maybe some unconcious fears of his childhood (IC) ?

No offense taken. I get and appreciate your point.

Even meditating will not help someone with heroin. No one here can help if the person is doing hard drugs like heroin. They need to tackle that addiction and take the necessary steps like join a detox program and/or join the local Drug Abuse anonymous 12 Steps meeting group.

But I have no personal experience with drug addiction. As someone who did, what do you suggest he does besides meditating?

But we don't know if he's really addicted,
'seeking drugs and alcohol' doesn't say that clearly, but professional councelling would be advisable anyway.

I would advise him to write down specifically what he is disappointed about and what he is worried about. Have him write down 3 for each category: disappointments and worries.

The trouble with Neptune's idealism is that once it's been disappointed (the urge to merge into the dream), it can seem as if everything is wrong and there's no control in the situation. Not true. By limiting himself to writing down 3 life disappointments he can focus on what is bothering him the most. Same with worries.

Then he can write down responses to each. He can sift through his feelings by writing them. Writing is so good for this kind of Neptunian situation because it takes things out of the floaty world of the imagined and starts putting them into words in front of you. That is the first act of showing control — naming, describing ... and that all-important part: choosing what to change now.

When people have a really rough time during Neptune transits, it's almost always due to injuries to self-worth. So another follow-up for him to write — and this one may be even more important — is 'What thoughts or beliefs am I holding onto that are sabotaging my self-worth and peace of mind?'

I think he could also benefit from Amethyst on or immediately around his body 24/7. Amethyst elevates consciousness in general. You just have to wear enough of it to do the job.

Sodalite is good to wear if you're caught up in worry and fear. So Sodalite comes up a lot in these situations as an excellent option.

Aquamarine is another excellent gem for sensitive people to gain strength by gathering their courage and dealing with their life challenges through better communication and self-expression.

Escapism generally means that the person is doubting their strength to deal with life head-on. Again, self-worth issue — but he could benefit from strengthening the solar energy if it is weak in his birth chart or if he's weakened by chronic disappointment and self-blame. Gold, Ruby, Garnet, Pink Tourmaline, Red Spinel, Iron Pyrite, and Sunstone (in roughly that order) are the solar energy-enhancing stones that strengthen the sense of self, confidence, and will power.

However, he might benefit just as much, at least temporarily, from a Mars stone like Carnelian.

honestly meditation and mindfulness do a fair bit, especially the deeper you can get into them, there's trance states that feel like a combo of an opiate high mixed with lsd and chasing that kind of **** is incentive enough nevermind the other benefits

mindfulness is good, being grounded in the present and really being present (hate myself a little for using the word twice 😩 but whatever) is helpful especially when part of the problem is drifting making you want drugs

exercise can be helpful too, things that give you a rush so to speak

or honestly substituting for less harmful **** if there's hard stuff in the mix

i've never been in a 12 step or to rehab and i've been clean from opiates completely for 2 years and off heroin for 4 (5 soon) occasionally if i really miss it and feel like i could relapse i do a bunch of kratom to get somewhere close and then i'm good for a while

i won't like lie and say i'm always sober because that'd be ******** but i'm sober most of the time now and haven't had any hard drugs in a long time (if you put them in front of me i would in a second but... how many times am i gonna get an opportunity like that? 😁 i don't seek them out)

bit of an off the wall suggestion because it's a drug replacing a drug but maybe they need a shroom trip, or lsd sometimes psychs can help you kick other ****

i once quit cigarettes during an lsd trip (eventually picked that back up while doing coke and drinking, but at this point i havent had one in over a year but i crave them ******* constantly no **** ) because i felt like i could really feel them in my body and the taste was amplified and extra repulsive etc

and shrooms kind of stick you in this deep headspace where you sort some of your baggage forcibly

lots of good advice here that i could use too. i have been going through this transit since 2017 and it is getting easier as it moves away from the IC.

what is neptune doing in your friends natal chart? or anything in pisces for that matter.. is he prone to escape?

really he needs to not escape and focus on being present (in whatever way will get him there), or its just going to get worse. probably some home stuff that he needs to face first and not disassociate from. i have neptune in 1st/parallel ascendant and its been a life long battle to stay in my body. even too much meditation and spirituality is bad for me. i am more aware now of how my mind disassociates and goes into imagination land as a trauma response. if he learns how to be present when he wants to escape, it will help with the depression a bit.

i can relate to much of what dumuzi posted and agree for the most part, as i am also a recovering addict (heroin, alcohol and everything in between). psychedelics are good for some deep soul searching or getting perspective on things, but maybe not good if he is not ready to face his issues. i was already clean before the neptune transit - and when it hit, i ESCAPED into spirituality and eating healthy that it actually wasnt healthy.

very happy for you. life long fight for sure. ive been off heroin for 12 years, opiates and other hard stuff for 6.. alcohol for 5. didnt go to rehab either. never tried kratom though but heard it is amazing. friend suggested it for my depression but the side effects put me off a little bit. keeping fresh memory of the last kick helps me from relapsing..

Excellent ideas, Kannon.

I can feel that the stones you are mentioning, are having exactly those healing powers as living energies in them.

Now I know what I'll buy as a christmas present for the person who's writing the stories for children :
a big, beautiful Amethyst to place in the room where she mostly writes,
which is mainly white, silver, light wood colour, some plants, a little bit bluegreen (ocean on a painting),
lots of mostly soft blue and mostly light, some dark purple and a tiny bit black and gold.

A lot of purple in a room is not advisable if someone is depressive by the way,
good for imagination, fantasy and mystic experiences,

but I guess light, soft, warm yellowisch (vanilla cream and warm butter) tones
(the opposite pole of purple) would bring some sunlight into somebody's mood,
a bit of soft salmon could add some compassionate warmth,
mango colour (inside of the mango) could be great for some accents in the room,
there is no happier and at the same time not too sharp or annoying colour than mango, I feel.

Maybe do add some little areas with the contrasting pole purple and blue/bluegreen, because of the balance and the Neptune transit, that has to be lived and Neptune (inside) has to be honoured as well.

Or the other way round, the yellowisch/light orangy colours as an accent,
I'm not sure, never decorated a room for somebody in such a situation yet...🤷

I feel that wood (as earthing element) is very important, not dark brown, but the natural light colours.
Plants 🌱 with earth to add something living and balance to the other colours,
pottery in the natural earth colours, different stones (they are living as well) in the room and some water.
Maybe a beautiful aquarium...🐠

Music, maybe he could try to play an intrument.
I'm just getting the intuition, an inner picture - a cat is here 🐈, telling me, she would like to help and be there (protect the aquarium, she could hardly resist)...😽

What Kannon said about self-worth sounds good,
maybe he could do something, where he could prove easily to himself and others,
that he is really good in it
and that there are areas in life he can enjoy so much, that drugs and alcohol are not necessary anymore.

For that he needs love and approval from others and himself.
When I was very young, I was very unhappy, which is the opposite today.
I went through really a lot, tried to find the truth about the backgrounds of problems, which was hidden from me by others, step by step I unfolded reality and myself.
I am glad today, that I went through all this, it helps me with my tasks in life.
Maybe it's a small piece of comfort to know, it's not for nothing
and one can develop towards love and happiness, which then can be given to others.
We incarnated with a plan...

Thank you everyone for your advice.

As for therapy, I did suggest it to him. He says he already tried, and that it didn't help him feel any better, and that the therapist he was speaking to couldn't help ease his difficulties. He was prescribed some antidepressants but he didn't want to continue taking them as they made him feel off and disconnected.

He does indeed try meditating, but he's also said that due to his confused, foggy state it's become hard for him. I did notice that in his progressed chart, Neptune is also transiting his 3rd house (of mind), so I can only imagine how terrible he must feel in the head.

Since he has energy issues I did also mention exercise for mood improvement and energy levels, but he says no matter how much he tries, he doesn't feel better or get an energy boost.

As for if he's truly addicted, yes and no. He uses the drugs and alcohol to cope with what he is going through since he noticed it's the only thing that takes the edge off. If he could fix his issues he wouldn't go near drugs that much in the first place, so I think it's mainly the loss of control brought on by Neptune.

With that said, I'll see what I can do with the rest of the advice given, and hoping something here will at least help him cope in a more healthy way.

We were typing at the same time, you missed my last post, some additional ideas in there, easy to apply in case anything resonates...

And I just realized, that the problems of my childhood/youth were partly Neptune-issues.

Instead of open, honest and loving communication
in situations of different oppinions/feelings/misunderstandings/critisism/injustice/selfishness...
often only secrecy, intrigues and gaslighting, from early childhood on,
to take away the self confidence and strength of anybody who saw the truth
and would have dared to speak or even analyse the backgrounds and try to heal the family dynamics.

Didn't mess with my 3rd house as far as I can see
(because there was more silence than brainwashing and I could analyse the situation),
but in case he had the third house issue in his childhood, not only now, it might have been very confusing.

Then he should look, what is still confusing and de-pressing him from his childhood.
Who or what de-pressed him, pressed him down/small ?
Or even distorted his view/feeling about himself and his logical (3rd house) conclusions.

I'm just getting to the end of a Neptune transit (square) to my 6H Venus in Sagittarius. I have my natal Venus conjunct Neptune in Sagittarius opposite Rx Mars in Gemini in the 12H. Feeling scattered and unfocused, and having insomnia were problems I've had for most part of my life but they definitely got worse during this Neptune transit.

As someone with the mentioned Neptune aspects, the first thing I'd recommend is: grounding, grounding and grounding. I explain why. When Neptune is in the picture, our personal boundaries are dissolved. On an energetic level, our energy field becomes more porous, vulnerable to have our energy siphoned by others and external energies intruding and taking over ours. We can literally become an energy mixed soup of external energies.

Psychologically, when these energetic phenomena happen, they can manifest as confusion, lack of motivation/ focus, engagement in escapist patterns we didn't even have before (doing drugs is only one among many). On a physical level, Neptune transits are often associated with lack of energy and feeling drained. Heroin in particular is a substance ruled by Neptune itself because it's a potent painkiller (opioid), sedative and anaesthetic, then, this symbolically means that this person is trying to numb himself out from something painful that he would rather not deal with.

Grounding specially in nature helps to clean and recharge one's energy field and this will naturally improve clarity of mind and vitality levels. Even science has already started to confirm the benefits of grounding over physical and mental healths (the "Earthing" documentary goes into details on this).

The tips that Kannon McAfee pointed are good and can help to get to the roots of the issue(s) that is/ are leading this person to go for escapism (if the person has no clear discrimination of what it is). Crystals that have a grounding effect are excellent to deal with Neptunian issues because they enhance the connection of the Root chakra to the Earth. There are many crystals with grounding purposes but I'd particularly recommend: 1) hematite due to its highest content of iron (it increases the grounding effect and blocks the energetic bleeding); 2) black tourmaline because not only has a potent grounding effect but also removes dark, negative imprints of the energy field, creates a shield against these energies. Both crystals clean and balance the Root chakra (energy center responsible for keeping us grounded, stable, down to Earth) and hematite also boosts the Solar Plexus chakra (energy center of willpower, vitality, motivation). These two chakras are the weakest and most imbalanced in situations of addiction for obvious reasons. In traditional Astrology, Saturn is the planet that governs the Root chakra while Mars governs the Solar Plexus'. Saturn is the primary energy that needs to be cultivated in those Neptunian situations marked by escapism, addictions in order to enhance groundedness, boundaries, reality check, resilience. Mars energy is important to be cultivated as well because it rules willpower, motivation, courage to do what needs to be done for one's own well-being. Crystals are one among many resources that can be used as gateways to activate specific planetary energies.

Another important thing during heavy Neptune transits is finding healthy ways to express such planetary energy. Arts and music can be therapeutic ways to channel Neptunian issues and let out suppressed emotions that are on the root of such issues. Spiritual practices are good as well but preferentially those that include grounding techniques such as yoga, shamanic practices focused on the Earth element and certain kinds of meditation.

For some reason, this story reminds me of Carl Jung. Before he became the important figure we know today in the psychoanalysis field he went through a very tough period in which he almost lost his mind. This was the period in which: transiting Uranus in Aquarius was opposite his Sun (Jung has a natal Sun/ Uranus loose conjunction); and transiting Neptune was conjunct his natal Sun (Jung has an exact Sun/ Neptune square). It was this period of crisis in his life in which he merged with the collective unconscious that inspired him to write the Black Book and the Red Book.

I wonder if your friend's natal Neptune is in aspect to the planets being hit by transiting Neptune or part of major configuration activated by transiting Neptune. In any case, going through these difficult periods does not mean that one's is doomed for life. This is why I cited the case of Carl Jung.

that holds true from my observations too.. was "taught" early on that rehab was where you go to find drugs and not where you go to quit.

What's his mind foggy from. Is it drugs & alcohol. Maybe NA & AA 12 step recovery groups if his mind is foggy & he can work out how to solve his problem using the 12 steps & traditions AA recovery program & help him with depression if it's from alcohol & drug addiction. 12 step groups in his local area can help him to recover from his drug & alcohol addiction & online AA groups. Neptune transit can be dealing with addictions & depression & dreams & subconscious fears. Maybe past life regression & psychiatrist like dr brain Weiss who wrote many masters many lives. & prayer & meditation a guided meditation for depression by dr brain Weiss it's on hay house online
