I was searching much older posts,10 years ago, and I wanted state how organic placidus is in comparison to equal houses. In certain latitudes ones house can stretch as far as 50 to 60 degrees. I think ive seen one that stretched almost 5 signs. That of course would make the others significantly smaller. With that being said to solely rely on equal houses would be doing one a diservice to say the least. Youd be stunting your own individuality immensely. Imagine you had 2 signs intercepted, with a sign holding 4 house cusps... Lmao. what kind of personality would that type of chart hold? we wouldn't know if we stuck to equal charts. not that theres anything wrong with them, it definitely explains why people from different areas of the world behave differently outside of culture religion and race. i prefer whole signs, more accurate from what i've noticed particularly in instances like what you're describing where the houses are really ****** IP: Logged |

I read on an other forum, an astrologer who wrote he was living in Alaska, (if I remember it right) and he has clients living there. He uses placidus, and found that to be more accurate, people born in northern countries often have to narrow houses or houses intercepted by like, 3 signs. And he had often seen how his clients 7th house for ex would be very narrow. He thought that it could be linked with how thise clients often had a very limited partner prospects so to speak, as they were living in Alaska where it is hard to find suitable partners since there is not exactly an abundance in partners and no social life really. So he found, its really reflecting the place and the condition of thise place they live in etc... of I'm explaining it well enough haha its late here and I have to go to sleep now IP: Logged |

Above the Arctic circle there are serious issues with astrology charts in general, and most house systems just don't work. It is a fairly marginal problem, since not many people live above the Arctic circle (or dito at the south pole)... But still. Here in Scandinavia it is an issue. I'm no expert, but I guess it has to do with midnight sun and polar night. What's your rising sign if the sun doesn't rise, or never sets? And where is midheaven? Even south of the Arctic circle the MC placements are just too extreme sometimes. And while the experiences of the Alaskan astrologer that Merlinn mentions are probably valid there, Scandinavia south of the Arctic circle isn't exactly sparsely populated, so a tiny 7th house for instance has no such natural explanation here... I usually use Placidus and Porphyry, but I do consider equal and whole sign too, partly because of the above issues. IP: Logged |

Only Placidus works -IME-. That is, for example, I should feel really swoony towards all Scorpio planeters, but I just don't as I feel the mundanity of 6th house (late Scorpio DSC) from them - meanwhile, regardless of how incompatible we are, I swoon for Sag placements. Same story for Transits and Natals. IP: Logged |

Yes you don't have to go that far up north before the houses starts to get too big or too narrow. We have this in south scandinivia to, not near the polar circle so the sun goes up and sets as usual.I have a friend born in august in soth sweden with normal sun (although the sun really does set later in summer, and it "twillight" mood whole summer long here in the south) and his 1 house and 7th house are intercepted by 3 signs. So very big houses. His 2,3,4,5 and 9,10,11 is very narrow. Anyways, no, equal has in my experience not made any sense for my or others charts I looked at, not for those who are born in scandinavian countries atleast. IP: Logged |

Placidus and Porphyry are the only viable house systems, as all current systems collapse by about 66° north/south latitude. I've said it before. Equal house is not a house system, but an avoidance of the dimensional reality and spherical physics issues that create houses. ------------------ "Drift like a cloud and flow like water, seeing that all life is a magnificent illusion, a playing of energy, and there is absolutely nothing fundamentally to be afraid of." -- Alan Watts Soul Stars Astrology by The Declinations Guy Expert Rectification IP: Logged |

It has nothing to do with houses or house systems. However, I make use of 'sidereal' or Jyotish positions as a planetary rulership scheme on a cosmic level. Our tropical zodiac is local, defined by our Sun's path (ecliptic) relative to our Earth. So it is always relevant and accurate, and many Vedic astrologers today acknowledge this. The sidereal positions, properly calculated, give a cosmic record that extends outside this solar system. I can use the solar and lunar lokas to help determine relative chart accuracy even when knowing nothing biographical about the person. I also use this in rectification efforts. It is a tremendous help. ------------------ "Drift like a cloud and flow like water, seeing that all life is a magnificent illusion, a playing of energy, and there is absolutely nothing fundamentally to be afraid of." -- Alan Watts Soul Stars Astrology by The Declinations Guy Expert Rectification IP: Logged | |
