http://www.ted.com/talks/rebecca_saxe_how_brains_make_moral_judgments.html About this talk Sensing the motives and feelings of others is a natural talent for humans. But how do we do it? Here, Rebecca Saxe shares fascinating lab work that uncovers how the brain thinks about other peoples' thoughts -- and judges their actions. About Rebecca Saxe While still a graduate student, Rebecca Saxe made a breakthrough discovery: There's a specific region in our brain that becomes active when we contemplate the workings of other minds. Now, at MIT's Saxelab, she and her team have been further exploring her grad-school finding, exploring how it may help us understand conditions such as autism. As Saxe delves into the complexities of social cognition, this young scientist is working toward revealing the enigma of human minds interacting. "One of the most astonishing discoveries in the field of human cognitive neuroscience." Nancy Kanwisher, the Ellen Swallow Richards Professor of Brain and Cognitive Sciences at MIT IP: Logged |

All very interesting. Using the TMS at the end to "alter" people's judgments regarding Grace's friend and the sugar is a scary prospect. Imagine a tool like the TMS used for brainwashing and other ulterior motives. To convince people that a wrong is more right. To convince people that what Hitler, Stalin, Jeffrey Dahmer etc. did was not so bad. I know we are not meant to be judge, jury and executioner. There is that moral code that most of us abide by. However, beyond our earthly codes, there is the code of the higher realm that does exist beyond our reason and moral judgments. ------------------ "Once in a while you can get shown the light in the strangest of places if you look at it right" Robert Hunter IP: Logged |

yes - and for MIT read "government funded" which means all those uses are not far from the present! scary indeed. have you come across russell targ LTT? his experience as a scientist led him to discourage his son from becoming one, since the money needed for research puts working scientists in the "wage slave" category by necessity of having to work for someone with big money.he is interviewed at least once on CMN...and has written several books on his findings, scientific and otherwise.
