Does anyone know what the Turtle symbolizes? I need to dig deep on this one. Clearly, I am being told to slow down and take it easy (at the Tutle's pace). "Slow and steady wins the race." But time has slowed down soooooo much for me. Weeks ago, time was super fast for me, as it is for many. This can be no accident. What is the Turtle trying to tell me?

Otherwise, those who commit suicide and those who succumb to accident, illness or "old age," die for exactly the same reason: belief in the inevitability of death." Linda Goodman

I've had a lot of sad dreams about turtles in the past. Some of my saddest ones.

What I would do,Randall, in your situation would be to study the lives of turtles, their biology etc lol
I bet you will have an "A-Ha" experience as you do.
You will KNOW what you are being led to find.

Hi Randall,

I have always understood turtles (and tortoises) to mean that you are well protected and have a long life ahead - in Chinese proverbs it means you will live a long life.

(Although in Africa it is a fertility symbol, so ya never know hehe...)

I'd interpret that as: slow down, enjoy the ride

it is not very common in my part of the wolrd so I'd say: need to appreciate this rare opportunity...

Our turtle can move pretty fast when she wants to. She hisses and ducks her head in, if surprised (but will pop it back out again, when she realizes that she isn't in danger). Walks all over our feet - if you're in her way, then she expects you to move.

She's curious, loves to be talked to, loves to snuggle into warm quilts, cats or people, if she finds you on the floor. (When she isn't trying to move through you.) She's determined, self-protective. She loves the sun, and lamps - she'll move into the shade when she gets too warm.

Turtle Meanings and Totem/Animal Symbolism of the Turtle

Those with the turtle as their animal totem can relate to the "sure and steady" message this creature brings to our lives.

It is also a powerful totem for protection as withdrawing into it's shell is an amazing self-defense mechanism.

The turtle has few predators, which gives it an innocent energy. This also increases its lifespan, and so holds the symbolic meaning for longevity in many cultures.

Animal symbolism of the turtle includes:

Order
Creation
Patience
Strength
Stability
Longevity
Innocence
Endurance
Protection
Because of its seemingly wide-eyed, long-lived, carefree attitude the turtle is often thought to be the wisest of souls among the animal kingdom. We would all do well to take this as a lesson and move at our own pace as the turtle does.

Furthermore, the turtle takes its wisdom one day at a time - not reacting, simply accepting and moving on in its natural methods. Again, this is a powerful analogy for humankind, and we would benefit from adopting the same behavior pattern.

Tutles share an association with water, which lends meanings of motion, intuition and emotion to the myriad of more symbolic meanings of the turtle.

Other associations for the turtle include:

Water
Winter
Humidity
Venus (Roman)
Aphrodite (Greek)
Northern directions
Lunar (moon aspect)
Femininity (except in African lore where it is considered a male symbol)

In China and Japan the turtle is a symbol for longevity.

In Asian myth the turtle represents cosmic order:

Its shell is symbolic of the heavens
Its body symbolic of the earth
Its undershell represents the underworld.

Furthermore, it is considered to have brought about the creation of the universe from its parts.

What's more, the turtle is a symbol of motherhood and creation. You can read more about that here.

Halo Randall

Alas, you have certainly encountered
a Totem of Sorts,
as Lonake has thoroughly described above.

In American Indian Legend
it represents the Clan of the Earth...
The Earth Clan envelopes
the three Earth signs
in Western Astrology....
Capricorn or the Snow Goose Moon,
Taurus or the Beaver Moon
and the Harvest Moon of Virgo.
All qualities that pertain to Earth Signs
apply here....as You already may know.

The lesson to be learned though
from an omen as this
is this....

Being a part of the Earth or Turtle Clan
and with it's nature being solid and stable
practical and grounded, persevering and steady...
People who enter this position
often have the tendency
to want to remain in this position,
even when it is time to leave it
and change...
and GROW!

If one becomes too rooted in the Earth position
they can become cool, and maybe even blocked...
unfeeling, closed, inflexible and narrow minded
in their Whirled they perceive, all around them.
They also become crafty,
manipulative and exceptionally stubborn!

When this begins to happen
they get "stuck" and have a tendency
to martyr themselves for whatever it is
they have built.

The remedy, of course, is to dig deep
and see if this rooting has become root-bound.
Complacent. Mediocre. Bored. Melancholy.
If such is the case,
One must force one 's Self
to move around the Wheel
under the influence of another Elemental Clan.

If, however, One is feeling
out in space or ungrounded...
it is Time to reacquaint your Self
with Earth in All her Glory.
Communing with Nature.
Camping. Star Gazing. Gardening.
Getting your hands dirty.

Only You will know where You are.
And your Turtle friend as well.....

I hope this helps.

"Turtle is the oldest symbol for the Earth.
It is the personification of goddess energy and the eternal Earth itself.
If you have a Turtle totem,
you must be mindful of returning to the Earth what she has given you.
Honor the creative source within you.
Use water and earth energies to create a harmonious flow in your life.
Ask the Earth for assistance and her riches will pour forth.
If a Turtle totem shows up in your life,
slow down the pace of your life.
Bigger, stronger, faster are not always the best ways to reach your goals.
Turtle is fine teacher of the art of grounding.
When you learn to ground yourself to Earth's power and strength,
you place focus on your thoughts and actions
and use the Earth's limitless energies rather than your own to accomplish your will."

Found that on a site.

Randall,
would you like some turtle "worry stones"?
They are kinda like the Guatemalan Worry Dolls
or Shiva Lingams.
The raw gem shoppe here sells little soapstone and or marble turtles you can wear as a pendant or earrings, or to carry in your pocket as a worry stone to rub to degauss negative energy. Also used to help you connect better to your totem animal.
Totems show up in our lives when we need the lessons they each can teach. Totems can change throughout our lives teaching us new things.

One can find a turtle in a pussycat. Look at the pussycat as a Master pussycat and you will find the turtle you are looking for.

Hey Randall, I seem to be stuck in Hare mode. Time is really flying by.

Don't know what the Turtle is trying to tell you but it always seems when there is anticipation of a coming event, time slows to a crawl...Turtle mode.
