Three guesses why November 5th is an important date (particularly if you happen to be British .)

It's the celebration of the capture of Guy Fawkes, and the fact that he didn't get away with blowing up the Houses of Parliament.

I think the movie V for Vendetta, has confused people. We weren't celebrating a terrorist the past few hundred years.

The kids used to make a "guy" (a dummy), ask for "pennies for the guy", and then on November 5th, he's thrown on the bonfire. (Which I thought was a bit morbid - I didn't like that part, but I loved the fireworks.)
