Yes, disturbing, to say the least. To us folks from elsewhere, this is a very strange phenomenon . Had no idea till a few days ago and now want to withdraw myself to a more sane universe. IP: Logged |

I don't think anyone outside of the U.S. likes him. IP: Logged |

Nope. However, Trump's transparency offers an advantage - one knows what one is dealing with - it will level the playing field internationally. The powerless will feel superior in comparison. IP: Logged |

Most here don't like Trump (offhand, I can only think of 3, maybe 4, at LL who cheer him on, and many more who are shocked and dismayed by his popularity). Most Americans who don't like Trump know better than to try to engage in a rational conversation with his most vocal supporters. (I have been tempted to "organize the points against him" in Global Unity where it's clearly explained in a non-rambling and non-emotional way, but I just simply haven't had the time.) IP: Logged |

People like him because he isn't a mind contolled illuminati poltician and will never be because he is a self made man. If you haven't noticed, politicians in America have never been concerned from their hearts about America and its true divine future and Trump represents hope that we haven't seen before in terms of taking the power away from the people who control the world. What is so disturbing about that? How is someone who inherited millions a self-made man? Even someone who inherited $100,000 wouldn't be, much less a millionaire from birth? I guess that's part of what makes this whole thing so bizarre for outsiders - nothing about him fits, not even the hairstyle. And indeed, most Americans I know are embarrassed over Trump's agenda. But oh well, I must say I don't hold my breath either way. A president Trump couldn't possibly cause worse world-wide mayhem than Bush Jr. already did (the fruit of which we non-Americans still get to "enjoy" on a daily basis.) Unbelievable that it was once possible to travel safely in the whole Middle East and Maghreb... *ETA* Here's an interesting interview with Bush's former secretary of state Donald Rumsfeld about both Trump and Iraq. As for Trump's domestic politics - if a majority of people in the US actually want him, then let them have him. One thing's for sure: This too shall pass. IP: Logged |

Breathe, Astro keen, breathe... To be fair, when I read internet comments on European news websites it seems there's just as much magical thinking going on, don't you think? Well, nearly just as much. And look at Hungary, Poland, and Eastern Germany right now (not to speak of Russia and China) - a longing for strongman politics, and xenophobia everywhere. We live in times of uncertainty and upheaval, and that just scares too many people. And if one thing can be trusted to bring out the worst in your fellow human beings, it's fear. IP: Logged |

Moving to GU where I will add my opinion. ------------------ Partial truth~the seeds of wisdom~can be found in many places...The seeds of wisdom are contained in all scriptures ever written… especially in art, music, and poetry and, above all, in Nature.
