As I'm not a serious Batman fan (though he is arguably my favorite DC superhero), I can easily go with Batman: the Animated Series. But I love to laugh, and they it could be serious yet funny at the same time.

I don't know if it was on that series (it was a cartoon that took place in Gotham, and the Sandman characters are DC), but there was a 3-parter which I might share later (it was on YT last I checked) of Death (actually a nice woman who can seem the perky goth one minute, and an aloof Fate--not without compassion, but also not without much in the way of choice--the next, with Death as relentless, but also as liberating). The live action on Netflix, despite sticking fairly close to the comic canon, messed that up with Death, but they had the character perfect in the cartoon, which I think was in the Batman series. And that was heart wrenching rather than comedy. (No Batman characters appear in it.)

For a more serious version, I liked The Dark Night best, with the actors for about everyone, including Batman and Joker. But I haven't seen them all.

I might share a short fanmade one where Batman saves Superman from Darth Vader. As silly as it sounds, the dialog and characters for them all, including Batman (who did take the Force into account and figured a way to trick Vader into grasping an object that would force him to use the Force on himself rather than on Batman during the fight, the kind of brilliant tactics and tech I'd expect from his character, an ordinary man who can fight with and against those with super powers), were perfect. But as that's fanon rather than canon, perhaps it's best I skip it.

While I do like Heath Ledger's joker, my fav Batman character across all the movies would actually be Danny DeVito's 'Penguin' from Batman Returns, which is one of the best cast roles in movie history. I also rate Batman Returns as the best Batman movie and that itself is mostly due to his performance which was often terrifying (or was to me while young)... and you even have two excellent side-villains in Max Shreck (Christopher Walken) and Cat-Woman played by Michelle Pfeiffer. I often say to people that movies like these are only ever as 'good' as their Villians.. and in Batman Returns you have three top tier villains.

For the same reasons Dark Knight is often given the most praise... though if you haven't seen Batman Returns in a while, definitely worth a look!

I remember Penguin's on-screen performance being so disturbing that places like McDonald's etc immediately pulled their Batman Line of Happy Meal toys (or was that Burger king, I'd have to check).

The whole movie is pretty insane and filled with dark tragedy, even in regards to Batman himself who ofc is no stranger to such things as a character.

I haven't seen the latest Batman with Robert Pattinson, though I am curious how Colin Farrell handles being Penguin.

Michael Keaton as Batman. His stature not tall like those others but his range in acting very extensive.
Jack Nicholson for me is a fantastic joker. More cartoonish as opposed to the modern slant more horrifying or dark for the joker in the heath etc interpretations.

I loved the 88/89-92ish films.

I’ve only seen two or three of them. I’m not really a Batman fan. I saw the dark knight, a few years ago, and the dark knight rises. I think I saw the George Clooney one, and Michael Keaton.

I didn’t make it very far, through pattinson’s. I haven’t seen Joker.
