In a dramatic move on Thursday, Governor Kate Brown authorized the state police to round up and bring back the missing state senators. According to KOIN-TV, Brown said she will call a special session if Republicans "run out the clock."

February 17, 2011 A planned state Senate vote on slashing Wisconsin public worker pensions and curbing their unions stalled Thursday after Senate Democrats apparently fled the state. The contentious vote was postponed because the 33-member Senate must have 20 present for a quorum and not a single Democrat attended. There are only 19 Republicans so at least one Democrat must be present for the Senate to open business. Police have been sent out to look for the wayward lawmakers, the Associated Press reported. A source said it appeared that the Democrats had boarded a bus headed for Iowa.

It's not "sane." but it is inevitable. We are a divided people now.It's a tinderbox, this little Oregon scenario, and although I don't believe this particular tinderbox will ignite, I do believe it foreshadows things to come. Politics is violent. History moves most often in violent surges. We've forgotten this in our comfy, civilized white European societies. Our idea of horrific political/social violence is Kent State or the LA riots. That's laughable. Most of the world doesn't operate as such. We're going to be reminded.
