What I am saying, Is if you want peace you realize what motivate people to get there is different.yes I know more than it seems, and yet I still use a vague saying because the "end" idea is correct. The answer is each person decides for themselves what is correct character, or whatever the issue is. I am just building an order to allow that to have its freedom, while not taking from another persons free will. Vague is there on purpose, Otherwise you are interjecting your will on another person and expecting them to like it. They dont, I know this. That is why I stated it like I did. I understand this concept is tricky to grasp. Nothing that is rewarding to have comes free, effort is always needed, and required. The rules, in essense preserve freedom and the ability to use it. This takes a certain level of intelligence to understand, but to put into practical, practice. Note: You are right about the theory of debate, but understand the nature of a debate is sometimes to "prove" a person right. Ask yourself is the end result something that people benefit from, or just one person? Note: people seem to respond favorably to things that benefit the group, while maximizing the individual. Society is a group, Of individuals. IP: Logged |

"Character is doing what's right--even when there are no rewards for doing so--even when it's detrimental to oneself to do so--or even when no one's looking and no one knows but you."--ME A good show to see character in action in real life is a hidden camera show on ABC every Friday night at 9 pm EST. It's called "What Would You Do?" Character spans all barriers and cannot be predicted by race, sex, age, occupation, or any other demographic. ------------------ "Cooking is like love. I agree with Randall. It's having integrity, honesty, and being rational, cultivating virtues as Aristotle describes in his ethics.IP: Logged |

Aristotle had many great ideas. So many things were branched and built off those ideas.Amazing how one person can change so much by nothing more than intangible ideas. IP: Logged |

I actually love debate, but only in person. I was quite good at it in college. There's a science to it. One of our rules was that if one loses one's temper, they have pretty much lost the debate. But if not in person (no body language, no voice inflection), it isn't gratifying for me. It's too easy to miscommunicate. I sometimes get embroiled in a clash (I won't call it a debate), so then I try to take a breather and opt out. A good debater can argue either side. I was great at arguing for a side I am totally against. That's fun. But I don't think it should be used to try to prove one side is right or one side is wrong. People think emotionally. You can't change a person's mind. They have to change their own mind by seeing it in a way that they jibe with. The mind doesn't change unless the heart listens.------------------ "Cooking is like love. It should be entered into with abandon or not at all." Harriet Van Horne IP: Logged |
