I just LOVE this pairing and i find it is somehow getting neglected in the soulmate pairings.
It is a favourite of mine though.

Especially because it highlights the faith and hope that there is "love after love".

Ariadne fell in love with Theseus and helped him, leaving her family to be with him.
He on the other hand deserted her and left her behind on the island of Naxos.

While Ariadne is still mourning the loss of what she thought was true love, Dionysos/ Bacchus sees her and falls in love with her.
It takes some time for her, but eventually she returns his love and becomes his wife.

"I will never love again, and therefore in some sense I will never live again', cries the deserted Ariadne in Richard Strauss' opera. At the moment of her deepest despair, Dionysos is heard singing off-stage. She hails him as the longed-for messenger of death. But when he appears before her, she recognized in him her true lover for whom, transformed through her pain, she is now ready"

They were bound in the HIEROS GAMOS, the sacred marriage.

To me this myth is personally so important because it shows that love can heal the wounds and that it`s never too late to love.

Oh boy I am so sappy tonight! lol

Anyway, loved what was said on love dove tarot about that myth:

"According to Ovid, Theseus abandoned Ariadne shortly thereafter during a pit stop on the island Naxos. This is where Dionysus found her — fast asleep. He fell in love with her and his love completely healed Ariadne’s broken heart. She was rewarded with true love and goddess status.

Ariadne is someone that all who have been betrayed in love can identify with. She is also an archetype that intelligent women who fail to be appreciated for their intellect will have affinity for. In the marriage between Ariadne and Dionysus, female intellect meets male chaos and ecstasy. In this union, you can expect something completely new to be born as neither of them are bound by tradition or gender roles."

"The Ariadne myth teaches us that life’s twists and turns can lead to something much better than we dared imagine. When a door closes, another one opens – sometimes during sleep when we allow the subconsciousness to inform us."

In my chart:

BACCHUS (roman name for Dionysos): 13°50 Scorpio
DIONYSOS: 20°12 Aquarius
ARIADNE: 8°25 Scorpio

Bacchus and Bacchus are almost conjunct; in fact though Ariadne is on the antiscion of Dionysos (the exact antiscion of Dionysos would be: 9°48 Scorpio - tight enough I think).

Bacchus: 3671
Dionysos: 2063
Ariadne: 43

All aspects are well under 2 degrees. Also I didn`t bother to look for other important aspects like to Moon, nodal axis, Saturn, Pluto, Neptune etc.

Some might also occur in composite or Davison chart.

This pairing might not occur as frequently as other pairings in synastry, maybe because it is so specific (second chance, healing etc.), but I still love it.

---------------------------

another pairing and myth I love is this of Vertumnus and Pomona.

Vertumnus is signified by the VERTEX, and there is actually an asteroid POMONA (32).

(Pomona is on the very important 8 degree of Pisces for me)

"The Roman god Vertumnus has roots in the Latin word vertere, to change, turn or spin. Vertumnus was a lesser god of gardens, fruit trees and seasons. Youthful and alluring, he had the power to change himself into various forms, just as the seed changes from root, to branch to leaf to fruit. Vertumnus used this ability in his avid pursuit of the goddess Pomona.

As the myth goes, Vertumnus fell in love with a strikingly beautiful goddess (in some versions nymph) named Pomona. Although she rejected all suitors, he fed his passion with the sight of her by changing his form and passing her gardens daily as a soldier, a harvester, a fisherman, etc. Ignoring him, Pomona remained devoted only to the cultivation of fruit trees. Vertumnus persisted and one day he altered his form to that of an old woman, greeted her with a passionate kiss, and proceeded to enter her gardens.

Vertumnus, (as the matron), talked to the goddess, attempting to convince her of the rewards of relationship and the dangers of rejecting love. The qualities and integrity of the youthful god Vertumnus were discussed. Finally, "she" told Pomona the story of a young man who cruelly took his own life after being spurned by his hard hearted love. He told of how the gods turned the rejecting woman into stone, but still Pomona was not persuaded.

Finally in exasperation, Vertumnus dropped his disguise and stood naked before Pomona in his true form. She thought she was seeing the sun immerge from behind the clouds and in the glorious light of Vertumnus, she opened her heart and reciprocated his love. Together still, they attend the gardens and fruit tress of the countryside.

The theme of this myth centers on a seemingly chance moment where an outstanding event occurs. To Pomona, it was like an epiphany, a sudden turn of fate, a radical awakening of perception. To Vertumnus, it was at first a well planned strategy, then finally an act of spontaneous desperation. Imagine his surprise when Pomona finally received him!

Love, relationship and union are highlighted here, not just in the desire of Vertumnus, but also in the story he told of the young man's rejection and the tragic consequences that followed. The imagery of the gardens, fruit and vine add to the feeling of ripeness, an event finally ready to happen, a fruitful experience."
