I don't believe in "charity"
I help people around me all the time, mainly because I like doing it.

Not always homeless or orphans LOL

nope, didnt practice it lately..
some time ago met someone who was raising money for a little girl who lost her parents in a car accident. She got away with an amputated leg; so at the moment i gave very little, they needed 60$ or so for a minor surgery(interesting enough, i had a lot of money to spend!)...but you know, everyone fears scammers so i let him leave without asking for more info.
Felt sooo guilty after! my damned indecision!
tried finding them online but nothing, ive been helped when i needed it, means so much, and sometimes i think some people appear in our lives for a reason, or who knows what for.. idk :/

I give when I feel led by God. Then, I will give relatively large sums but the funny thing is that I will get them back, doubled or tripled within a short time, usually a week lol

I never give if I am not led though and I have many people ask me, but I won't budge if I am feel I am not supposed to.

Biased towards children, especially those medically ill and those with special needs. I also give away used cars.

That is sweet about the used cars, Ian.

But it's never to individuals though. I like the Make-A-Wish Foundation and National Kidney Foundation.

As you can tell, I have little patience for adults, especially those who abuse substances.

Well, God has called you to help children.

God gives each of us a heart for certain people.

If everyone had the heart for the same people, no one would be helped.

I seem to reach out to intellectual people who are looking for God and have been disgusted by "ignorant" people

Form my perspective, the first priority is fulfilling the wishes of dying children.

Yes, God put that in your heart. I seem to be drawn to intellectual people who think Jesus is dumb and for ignorant people

What are you talking about? Please make sense.

I am granting the wishes of children who are chronically ill or are dying. What exactly is so prohibitively wrong with that?

Would you rather that I buy iPads for occupation wall street types gripping about the ills of society but who choose not to contribute?

I'm a 1%-er myself :-/

I'm here to listen and help if I'm able to. But I need to understand the issues besides perhaps you not lucking out with your job. Also, I've never been part of the stock market crowd. My work has practically nothing to do with the stock market.

Well here's the deal, entry level job and my supervisor is in a bad way.

To me, the Biblical advice to help when you can and now, not next time, has always stuck with me.

Mayhaps it makes me "weak" to me though, it is one thing to talk talk talk, it's another to do do do

doesn't 'telling' about the charity we do, beat the whole point of doing it in the first place?

also it's not always only money...it could be volunteering time, helping at a local hospital by reading for children, or taking care of the real older people...etc etc etc.

i'm sure a lot of people do it, without speaking about it regardless of religion, it's why the world isn't as ugly as the media will have you think it could be.

PS( I like the "Make a wish foundation" a lot to!)

Telling does not negate charity when asked about it rather than just volunteering that one believes in charity and does it.

Perhaps it will inspire others.

Honestly, I think that if you can GIVE love, you will always be happy because it is rare and people need it.

You guys asked. I answered. Actually, it's none of anyone's damn business whether anybody gives to charity or not. And it isn't for anyone to judge who gives how much to where or to whom. For a Christian, it is between that individual and God.

The entire thread appears accusatory in nature. What is this? An ambush? How many Christians are there in this forum? Some give the "mandated guideline" of 10%. Others give more. So what?

Give where to where ever you want to give. If you have the money, then give. If you don't, then don't give and don't harbor any insecurities. If you do, then don't carry any superiority complexes. Only God sees it.

Give abundantly. Be as generous as you can.

I also like the Starlight Foundation, Children's Aid Society and Wish-Come-True.

I'm not religious but I often raise money for charities and to 5k's. My most recent was on Sunday for a no-kill animal shelter.
