I thought those asteroids were supposed to be named after the Norse God Thor.I thought Donar was an older German name for Thor.I'm not really sure if Thora was actually named after Thor though although according to Wikipedia it is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/299_Thora .I think the stupid people should have just called it Thor instead of adding the A if it was supposed to be named after the Norse God. I don't know how you got the idea that they were a pair of lovers. IP: Logged |

Like you all I can find is the story of Thor/Sif Thora/Donar was put in my thread for asteroid couples. Recently ive been going back through and researching the couples for validity and information...All I've found was Thor/Sif I guess Donar is Thor and Sif is the counterpart?? But I need to make sure if this/these couples got confused in that thread and/ or if there really is a different couple called Thora-Donar... IP: Logged |

Was it one of the threads I posted in.Perhaps I might have confused you with the way I typed out my post.If it was me who posted it I am sorry I confused you.If it was me who posted that I probably meant That Thora or Donar could be paired with Sif.I don't think I have heard of a couple consisting of Donar and Thora before and I haven't found any info either when I searched. They didn't name asteroids as men or with male names at all in the early days. Any male names were feminized. I forget examples now and can't remember if that was how we ended up with Davida instead of David, for one, but all the early asteroids are female names only. No idea if Thora was a feminized form or named for something else, but it's there for Thor in any case. IP: Logged |

Thanks for clarifying that.
