In my astronomy class I learned that Pluto has a dwarf planet near it called Charon. I thought the professor meant Chiron but apparently not. I've never heard of Charon talked about in astrology. Does it have the same "wounded healer" description as Chiron since it is so similar in name or is Charon totally different from Chiron in astrology?IP: Logged |

If I remember my astronomy correctly Charon is one of Pluto's moons. The biggest of them, uncommonly big for a moon when compared to the planet it orbits. In mythology Charon is the ferryman of Hades (Pluto). He carries the souls of the dead over the river Styx, which devides the realm of the dead from the realm of the living. Completely different from Chiron who is one of the centaurs. Charon isn't of much use in astrology since it's never apart from Pluto. IP: Logged |

Yeah I figured Charon wasn't important in astrology. I can't believe I thought the professor was misspelling Chiron lol. I guess I need a Greek mythology class too haha. IP: Logged |

Have to say I can 100% recommend Stephen Fry's books Mythos, and Heroes - delineate the Greek legends with humour and really enjoyable reads (and informative).I have to confess, I, too, was confused as to what a centaur was doing on the River Styx but then realised the difference. As an astrological interpretation, I'd suggest the emotional effect of transformation as a representation. Possibly a grief marker? Would be an interesting one to experiment with at least...
