...that may soon be homeless.

Friends of mine (one of whom may soon be an ex-friend) are getting divorced. Their house was sold, they need to be out of it in a week or 10 days or so.

He has brought home 4 animals over the years, two dogs and two cats. He is also lazy, somewhat bi-polar (though refuses treatment), and has been disrespectful to his wife and his marriage. She has supported him (she's a psychologist) while he has continued to work part-time at a little more than minimum wage, despite finally getting his degree.

They have still provided a loving home for these pets...but now, he is whining and complaining about his fate and that he may have to turn over the pets to the Humane Society. I'm furious about this...

She is able to take one of the dogs to her new apt. He hasnt' even found a full time job and will likely have to crash with relatives who are also at their wits end with him. He's a big self-centered baby.

Sorry for the length of this post but I am so worried about the animals. I called him today and relatively gently told him to get off his lazy *ss and get a 2nd job, take care of his responsibilities, etc. He hung up on me.

I'm asking that you pray for these wonderful animals who don't deserve the fate of going to the Humane Society, where they will likely be destroyed. My heart aches over this and if he does nothing, well, it's terribly judgemental of me but I don't think I can continue to be his friend.

Thank you.

Hi Trillian. I'm sorry to hear about the pets. (Sorry to hear about the friends divorcing as well, but as humans, that is their choice. The pets don't have a choice.) I see that kind of thing happening too often and usually have at least one "foster pet" that I keep until I can find a home for it. (Right now I have 2 cats and 1 dog of my own plus 1 foster dog.) I'm not sure where you live, but there are a lot of No Kill places where they do not euthanize healthy animals. Maybe there is one in your area. Also if you and the psychologist lady talk to other friends, maybe you can find someone to foster her pets until more suitable homes can be found. Good luck and bless you for caring.

Oh dear Trillian, you know that hurts my heart Especially as I look around to my foster kids & family members

First don`t panic, second plan on the jerk staying a jerk!

Humane Societys arn`t what they used to be, thank the Goddess.. I am going to use the term 'you' ment for whoever can.

You need to asap find out if your H.S. is a no-kill policy. You`re in good shape if thats the policy. If they do euthanize, search your state for foster homes. Many will travel to pick the critter up for gas money! I know for sure MI,IN,IL has that service. Can you run an editorial/ad in your local newspaper? Contact vets sensitive to their plight. Post pics & the sad bio in their office. Post it anywhere you can! Is there an PETA agency near? Call friends & neighbors, get the word out.

I am holding them in my prayers and you are an to help them. Please keep us updated!!

Thank you FishKitten, and juniperb.

I told her I would take the Boris and Sasha, the cats, at least as a foster parent. It won't be easy, my apt. is very small, and my two cats are still missing T.C. I don't know if they're ready for two new family members, don't know if I'm ready for the fireworks, but I can't stand the thought of them at the Humane Society, facing a cage and then death.

I have done some work with our local HS, it does not have a no kill policy, unfortunately. But I will look for other foster options for the dog. There's no way for me to take him. My 'friend' said he signed papers that said that should anything happen, the dogs had to be returned to the Humane Society, but that's him being a stubborn jerk again. Who cares about *&%$# papers, when a beautiful life is at stake??

Thank you for thinking of them. I'm grateful.

trillian,

I can't add anything to what's already been advised, except to say that I will pray a foster home is found for the doggie.

WHEN will people realize that getting a pet is a commitment...and not some THING to be *returned* when life gets complicated and it's no longer *convenient* to care for them?? I've seen this happen too often also, and I get angry every time!

Bless you for having a heart big enough to bring those kitties into your home. And you WILL be blessed; I know it.

Trillian, I`m sorry to hear about the local H.S. It`s so hard to believe that policy exists anywhere in the U.S.

Your is as big as the Grand Canyon and I wish I could help you. They were my last thought last night
Have you had any luck with the fostering groups? I will keep praying for a home for the dog.

Trillian, I do understand your concerns in bringing in more kitties It is always a concern here too but they usually work it out. Hopefully your kitties will know you have enough love to go around.

We thought our winter workload was a little lighter this year as we were able to adopt out another llama, a lab, chickens and kitties. Then we took in a very sick colt and a Cocker Spanial. Once you open your heart Trillian, you`re a mom forever . The world needs many more Trillians.

Thanks TwinLady, you're wonderful and I totally agree. He's not a young man, he's an adult who can make choices.
And juniperb, it would be hard to find a heart bigger than yours.

I found an agency about 80 miles away that does fostering when it can, and another that works with the HS in the area and also sometimes does fostering, so I will hope we can get the dog in that program.

As luck would have it, it looks like I might have a rare weekend off this weekend, so if the cats are coming with me, I want them to come Friday, so they will all have time to adjust while I can be around.

Thank you so much for your thoughts and prayers. They mean more than words can say.

Thank you Randall.

Further update...this morning, I got a call from my friend's co-worker that my friend couldn't meet me for dinner, she was in the ER with chest pains. But I just checked on her just minutes ago, she's ok, it wasn't a heart attack, more likely anxiety, but they are keeping her overnight.

I spoke to her husband just now, and he has arranged for someone to watch his dog temporarily till he gets settled. And I will take the cats, at least to foster them. If he grows up and demonstrates some responsibility, my soft heart will likely let him have them back some day. He does love the animals, and they do love him, though he is a big baby/jerk. *sigh* Sometimes life just isn't simple, is it?

I think your wonderful prayers helped get him off his *ss in the past 24 hours and make some arrangements. When I spoke to him, he wasn't aware that I had offered to his wife to take the cats, and he had been on the phone trying to find some foster care for them. This, after whining for 8 weeks about his fate. So you see...the people here are so powerful. I have a tear in my eye, and I love you, and thank you.

Namaste.

trillian, continued prayers for a home for the dog, and healing light sent for your friend.

And it will be fine with the kitties...I'll be thinking of you Friday, sending positive thoughts that everyone adjusts easily. You've got enough love to go around for all of them; and this diehard Beatle fan truly believes that "all you need is love"!

The cats will be arriving sometime this morning, rather than last night. My friend had to have a heart cath, just to be sure, and though she is fine, she can't drive a car for a few days, and there was no one to bring her last night.
So........we'll see! I've been lighting a candle to the Goddess in hopes that this will go smoothly, and I've explained to my kitties what is happening.

Thank you so much for your well wishes, I am very very grateful. I love you all.

Tril, do you have any rescue remedy? It would help all acclimate if you could give them some. I feel guilty for not recommending it before . If you don`t, a health store should carry a bottle, about $10.00.

The Goddess is smiling on you and helping you and babies

juniperb, I forgot all about it, but yes, I do have some Rescue Remedy! But so far, things aren't too bad...

They've been here nearly 4 hours. Boris, the new boy, has been quite adventurous, checking things out. He immediately popped under the bed where my two girls, Dannion and Mincin, were hiding. The new girl, Sasha, has been behind the loveseat nearly the whole time.

There's been some hissing, but nothing major...yet. Mostly I am staying out of their way, letting them figure out their own dramas. I talk to them all lovingly, pet them, coax Sasha out now and then, but so far so good.

I will us the Bach's stuff if I need to...

Thank you juniperb, you are such a bright light! And all of you, for your wishes, I am so grateful.

Oh, and here where I live that Rescue Remedy is $17.50! Perhaps I'll start shopping for it online!

Is it homeopathic or a flower remedy? What is it for?

It is the core of the Bach Flower Essences used for trauma. In circumstances when one needs immediate help before and /or after difficulty in physical accidents or traumatic upset. It restores peace and emotional balance.NO home should be without it
