Well, somethings us ICU nurses just dont know...

Was diagnosed last week with a upper back muscular tear, on meds, got a bit better, but I was convinced it had some rib involvement, so I went to my doc today, got written out of work for a few weeks atleast, radilolgy reports pending..am a bit scared...

However..

I have noticed recently that every night I go to bed, especially after work, I find myself in a full body muscle tension and I have to conciously meditate and force my body to relax.

My doc said my back was soooo tight and my reflexes are hyper-reactive and that is just what I feel like some times, over stimulated physically (and emotionally on meds for PTSD as well)

Going to schedule a massage, keep meditating, but what to do about the chronic muscle tension???

They are working me up for physical therapy,, that will help, but anybody have any suggestions?

I need to find a way to relax my body, mind and soul, each and every day.

Thanks in advance!!!

t~~~

Physical therapy will take care of the muscular tension as it's a specialized form of mild exercise. I would also recommend swimming and some daily form of exercise to get rid of the tension. I think you need to focus on exercising rather than relaxing because the tension of the muscles is using up energy you body is not spending when relaxing. Like when feeling restless and can't relax and sleep, the best remedy is exercise. Spend that accumulated energy. I always sleep better at the end of an active day.

anongrl, Thanks!!!

Makes perfect sense to me! I used to walk everyday, but have slacked off over the last few years.

I have, also, RLS, which is when I notice this accumulated tension the most.

My goodness, I WILL get out and walk again!

Because I have actual neurological damage,
therapy has not worked.
I now take Zanaflex, a muscle relaxer as needed.
It does not work 100%,
but it keeps the severe torsion spasms down.
Hope you get better hippichick {{{hugs}}}

PS.
Yes RLS too.
And several muscle tears left scars in my back and the degenerative spine is another problem.
They are trying to find the right meds so I can walk again, unaided, because yes,
walking can help.
I cannot walk without aid.
I cannot go up and down steps without crawling.
I will get better somehow!

amitriptyline is a muscle relaxant you should be able to get from your GP

I take 3x 10mg dose to relax my neck muscles at bedtime for degenerative disease ie: Arthritis or spondilitus, compressed disc affecting nerve endings. so am in constant pain.. Tramadol is a really good painkiller but I'm trying to find something for pain without taking pills. Just don't have the finances at the moment.

It's called Alpha Stim 100 http://www.telegraph.co.uk/health/wellbeing/7918685/Treating-anxiety-the-Alpha-Stim.html
http://www.themicrocurrentsite.co.uk/
£599 -- have no idea for USA if that's where you are?

If found an agent in UK who can supply this for £390 as you can get VAT relief and it's only a self certification process on their website. maybe if you contact them and ask for a local agent in your country they will suggest someone.
there are payments plans for rental schemes, 30 day or 60day trial for payment over 9months. It's a considered purchase, but when you're in constant pain, you will try *anything* and if it save pill popping for the rest of my life, it seems a good investment...

Anyway, do the research. It's supposed to help for anxiety, insomnia,Fibromyalgia, depression and all sorts..
