Does anyone ever watch ST:NG? If you have you may have seen a very rare Beverly ep (that is focused on Dr. Crusher) which featured the character Ronin. Finding his voice is proving difficult but you can hear it very briefly a couple of times in this trailer for the episode:

I hear many women loved this character and it's an episodes supposedly loved by women and hated by men. (I don't think men hate it due to jealousy as many men loved an episode of another lady's man, the Outrageous Okona...and then there's Kirk himself...actually, I get the impression both straight men & straight women alike, whether they love it or hate it, take it as a love story rather than short horror story which is why they either love or hate it.) Again, ignoring the story itself I found his appearance intriguing but his voice...supposedly deep and sexy to many women...was like listening to nails on a chalkboard for me. And I mean on the very first time I heard it I didn't like it so it wasn't the story itself that turned me off from it (at least no more than what was given by that time which I recall being more curious than disturbed at that point). Did you love that voice? Hate it? Was it too whispery? Even a bit whiny? I'm having a hard time putting my finger on it. Perhaps "needy" is the perfect word, and that might explain why some women loved it (who want to be needed desperately like that) and I hated it. IP: Logged |

His voice was smooth heavy warm velvet at times but then would go all icky whiny.
Basically it was the incubus/symbiotic relationship; with oddly, real love involved that I found appealing.
Beverly's Nana seemed to have had much happiness with Ronn as did others before her.
I was disappointed that such an ancient spirit as Ronin behaved like a desperate love starved fool and I feel a being like him would have handled this situation better than he did.IP: Logged |

At least that ep showed something of Beverly's background. There were so many teasers of her background (tidbits she'd share of her past, well developed and honed talents she had, even Klingon martial arts), and she had such divergent interests and yet it seems they explored her background much less than many others. I'd like to have seen her visit Copernicus City on the moon (where she was born)... IP: Logged |
