Cardinal, Fixed and Mutable Signs on the Angles
By amiann | Published: February 15, 2012 |

The four angles are the Ascendant, Descendant, IC and MC. If one has one of the modalities on one angle, he has the same one on ALL the angles, In other words, if you have a Cardinal Sign on the ASC, you will have Cardinal signs on the other Angles. One can ascertain certain traits, based on the modality on the Angles. If one has a Cardinal sign on the Angle, one will tend to be a leader. The Cardinal signs are Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn.

If one has a Fixed Sign on the Angles, one will tend to be stubborn, but this will give stability to the personality. The Fixed Signs are Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius.

If one has Mutable Signs on the Angles, one will tend to be flexible and adapt to change, easily. However, the person may not feel as strong of a sense of identity as the other two. The Mutable Signs are Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces.

The Ascendent
By amiann | Published: March 4, 2012

The Ascendant is a lens with which the person views life. It is an outer veneer but it is stuck on as a suit of armor which one cannot shed. The Ascendent is a strange concept in that it is very much a part of us but it is more exterior. When one tries to explain it, explanations seem to fall short. I will try. Study up on your Ascendent. Then, try to see how you react automatically with this Ascendent Sign. Let me use the Libra Ascendent as an example. Libra is the first sign to deal with partnership. Hence, the Libra Ascendant thinks in terms of others as a natural course. In a shuffle, he will think of the other person’s point of view.It is so natural to him that he does not know he is doing it.It is who he is in his external activities. In his home with intimates, they will see the Moon. His boss will see the Sun. The neighbor and the casual cocktail party guest will see his Ascendant. Of course, we cannot chop a person into thirds. However, one must discuss the parts of the chart in this way for purposes of learning.

Taking the Libra Ascendent as our example, we need to study the sign of Libra. Libra is the most gracious sign. This is because Libra is the first sign that deals with others not just oneself. Hence, Libra embodies the traits one needs to form a partnership. These traits are grace, care for the other and a high value placed on relationships. When you have a party, it will be the Libra who will help with the dishes. The Aries pretends she does not see you. If your dog makes a mess on the floor your Libra friend, male or female, will make a run for the paper towels. Libras are wonderful friends. They seem to radiate an inner sun. Watch your Libra friends and tell me if I am not right.Libra’s strength is also his weakness. He wants harmony so much that he forgets that he has an identity separate from the other. Libra has a hard time standing up for himself. It is literally painful. Watch a Libra trying to take a stand. He will hem and haw as he is an air sign. Air signs can get lost in their heads. However, Libra is Cardinal Air so once he makes up his mind, he will have the strength to carry it through. It is just the deciding that is hard. Hence, for purposes of our discussion, memorize Libra. Try to feel what it feels like to see things from a Libra point of view. Then, put this in to the part of you that navigates more casual relationships and activities. When you do, you will understand the Ascendent.

Some Musings on Planets Conjunct the MC
By amiann | Published: April 21, 2012

As I do more charts, I come to understand them more deeply. It is a life long study but if one has a passion for it, one cannot help oneself. It has the feeling of touching the heartbeat of life. I am thinking of several charts. One is a Pisces ASC with Neptune conjunct the MC. This man brings spirituality to people in an off beat setting. The typical settings in which people seek spirituality such as the churches are, often, the last place you will find it.If you have to put on your best clothes and your Sunday smiles, you know there will be little spirituality there. If you have to smile when you want to scream, you know there is little spirituality there. The first step to true spirituality is honestly. Without honesty, you have an exercise in futility. As such, one needs to look for spirituality in off beat places and with off beat people, perhaps. At any rate, Neptune conjunct the MC will show spirituality to the world. What is spirituality, exactly? It is everything connected with the next dimension. If you have a question which cannot be answered through your five senses, it is in Neptune’s domain.

Another chart is a woman with the Moon conjunct the MC. Someone said to her,”WHY do you wear your heart on your sleeve. It is unseemly” She has her heart on her sleeve as surely as the nose on her face. When one discovers ones MC planet, one is wed to it as surely as a life long partner. One will live out it’s destiny because the planet will play out as sure as breathing. The best the native can do is accept it. The person with a planet conjunct the MC will wear the face of this planet to the world. People may associate this person with this planet. Usually, the person will be both loved and hated for the planets influence. The person will not be a neutral force. If a person has a planet conjunct the ASC, it does not seem to be as far reaching. This person may not be known for this planet. He may manifest it. However, it is not his destiny, as is the MC.

Another man has Chiron conj the Moon which conjuncts the MC. This is as painful as it sounds. This man is destined to show his heart to the world by virtue of Moon conjunct the MC. However, we have a multi- layered situation here as Chiron conjuncts both the Moon and the MC. Chiron conjunct the Moon is great pain with the mother. This man had a mother who was bedridden and a double amputee. He had to act as a full time nurse, as his youth slipped away. On top of that, his pain was there for all to see as is the case with Chiron is conjunct the MC. This proved to be the case. I will not go into the details of how as I want to maintain his privacy.

The last man has Pluto conjunct the MC. Pluto can be a wild card as it is very powerful. If you have a prominent Pluto, you will be a presence. That is a given. However, you can use your power to tear people down, rather than build them up. In this case, one will not reach one’s destiny especially if Pluto is conjunct the MC , as one was made for great things. In one man’s chart, I have seen Pluto used for the primary purpose of ripping people apart.Pluto has turned to sarcasm . Hence, the person may as well not have the placement as it’s power has been perverted. However, Astrology is the science of possibilities, not probabilities. One must take the former and turn it into the latter.

Planets conjunct the MC and in opposition to the IC
By amiann | Published: March 23, 2012 | Edit

I want to share some thoughts on planets conjunct the MC and opposed to the IC. This is based on a few charts and a few discussions so may not be right. If it does not hold water, I will withdraw it. I will start with a chart in which the Moon is conjunct the MC. This person would show his emotions to the world. The moon is unaspected and so that makes it naked, in a sense. The unaspected planet is out there for all to see as it tries to get it’s bearings and go from the buried state to actualization. For the purposes of this discussion, the fact that it is unaspected does not matter. I want to concentrate on the the planet’s placement on the MC. So, in this instance we have a Moon conjunct the MC. My theory is that the person could NOT use this planet on the IC as the MC is opposed to the IC. That is my theory. The person who is destined to show a planet to the world could not show it in his childhood. Hence, the planet was empowered with steam to show itself, so to speak. The planet shot like a rocket from the IC to the MC where it is destined to shine. However, it got it’s impetus from not being able to be expressed in the IC/childhood. I will take each planet and give my opinion with respect to this working theory.

Sun conj the MC—the native had to hide his sun in childhood. He struggled mightily with his identity to such an extent that he came on the MC scene as a star– a shining light. A planet conjunct the MC will have struggled with the nature of that planet on the IC. This struggle will be a hallmark of his childhood, according to my working theory

Moon conj the MC–I did this in the prior example
Venus conj the MV–the native did not feel connected to his own sense of beauty and love or struggled with it to a large degree in childhood. He may have wanted to be social as Venus rules social graces. He may have felt ackward. He may have wanted to shine in the arts as Venus rules the beauty of music and art. In some way, the native had to squelch his Venus.

Mars conj the MC–the native may not have felt connected to his drives. Perhaps, he was squelched as a child. Perhaps, he could not show his anger, passion or aggression. Hence, he became like a volcano propelled to express himself to the world, on the MC.

Saturn conj the MC–the child may not have been able to be disciplined in childhood even though he craved it.Perhaps, his house was out of control and disordered. When he grew up, he placed a premium on discipline, order and a persistent striving for a goal.

Jupiter conj the MC–the child may have not been allowed to be his naturally optimistic self. He may have had harsh circumstances in which he lost his natural optimism or was forced to push it underground. When he grew up, his desire was to show his natural optimism to the world. He may be very popular as he makes people feel uplifted and happy when he is near.

Neptune conj the MC–the child may have not been allowed his imaginary world. Perhaps, his life was very harsh and lacking in the softening aspects of Neptune to make the world a more beautiful place. Hence, his goal is to bring Neptune to the world. He may deal with some form of fantasy as in a Walt Disney etc

Uranus conj the MC–the child may have been forced into a tight box when he wished to run free with his own individuality. As such, he craves to make a unique statement in the world.

Pluto conj the MC–the child may have not been allowed to have his own power. His power may have been taken by a Narcissistic parent, for example. His passion in life is to deal with power in his career and society. I do not mean this to sound as if it involves a malicious intent. It is not a good or bad issue. We are talking about the energies of the planets.

The Angles In The Astrological Chart
By Ami | Published: October 5, 2011

The Angles are fascinating. They are found by knowing one’s birth time. The Ascendent is the most important. It shows your outer self, the self you show to the world. You could liken it to the car you drive or the house in which you live. When people first meet you, they see the ASC. If this is all they know of you, this is who you will be, in their minds

There are three other angles: the DSC, IC and MC. Each describes an area of life and how it either was, for you, or how you function in it. For example, the DSC shows the type of person you would choose for a partner. The sign of the DSC describes the qualities of this person.

The IC describes the feeling of your early home and early childhood. If you have Aquarius on the IC, for example, your home could have felt cold , as Aquarius is a sign that goes out in to the world, rather than stays in the home, as a
nurturer. If you were lucky enough to have Cancer on the IC, your home probably felt warm and full of love and protection.

The MC describes your public face. If you have Leo on the MC, for example, you may have boldness and confidence as you go out in to the world and your career. You may have a childlike faith that it will all work out.

The Astrological charts are so fascinating that one could study them 24/7 and never get bored

“Oh soul,
you worry too much.
You have seen your own strength.
You have seen your own beauty.
You have seen your golden wings.
Of anything less,
why do you worry?
You are in truth
the soul, of the soul, of the soul.”
