the composite has favorable pattern with venus/conjunct to Jupiter and opposed to the moon with mercury sextile to these and trine to the moon. this pattern give honest affection and a optimistic and joyous manner between you. with mercury aspected , your communication is very good and you both let each other know how you feel.. wit Jupiter included there is possibility for a serious or long term relationship. in feb 2012 to june 2012, the node was transiting the moon/venus/Jupiter, so this might have been the beginning of the relationship.

you mention there are a few ups and downs and this is to be expected because there is also a mars square to pluto. this aspect is extremely selfish. it is very sexual but rarely does this type of sexuality bring two people closer and more intimate as it is solely physical sexual with no interest in love or emotional bonding.
so this composite has two extremes the first pattern show a devoted love associated with long-term relationships and the second pattern is pure carnal and exploitive sexually.
so it seems to me , what happens to him is that when his sexual appetite is satisfied ,he loses interest in the relationship . but then after awhile he starts to feel the void created in himself when he doesn't have your love near him and he drifts back. this cycle repeats itself as his selfish motives are so strong.
hopefully with maturity and more experiences in life, he will realize that true love is not something one can find every day, and he will realize he must give up his selfish orientation and concentrate on making this relationship a priority.

if you have mars square pluto in your natal then so does he. his is a good thing as the lessons of selfishness that come with this aspect are lesson s you are both learning, so the destructive nature of this aspect in a composite chart may be overcome more easily.
